Beautiful buiding and great art inside. Well, camera is NOT allowed inside. You have to capture those beautiful art with your bare eyes and keep in your brain SD card. =) Due to MCO , there are less visitors when we arrived. Not much foreigner too. Overall, this is a Must Visit place if you come to Old town, Tallinn.

It was built in 1900 when Estonia was under Czarist Russian rule as a reminder to the mainly Lutheran Estonians of their subordinate status during that era. In the late 19th century, Czarist Russia was carrying out a fervent campaign of Russifiying its outer territories. Loathed by most Estonians at the time for being a symbol of Russification policies, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was planned to be demolished in 1924, but the plan was never executed. The cathedral is dedicated to the Prince of Novgorod, Alexander Yaroslavich Nevsky, who vanquished the Livonian Knights on the banks of Lake Peipsi in 1242. The cathedral’s Neo-Byzantine exterior is richly decorated in mosaics and icons and its bulging black domes and golden iron crosses are visible through most of the Old Town. The interior is relatively spartan compared to other renowned Orthodox cathedrals but impressive nonetheless.

I recently visited the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Estonia and was thoroughly impressed with the beauty and grandeur of the architecture. The exterior of the cathedral is adorned with intricate details and ornate decorations, and the interior is equally stunning with its lavish frescoes and intricate mosaics. I was also struck by the peaceful atmosphere of the cathedral, which provided a welcome respite from the bustling city outside. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and they made sure to answer any questions I had about the history and significance of the cathedral. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral to anyone traveling to Estonia. It is a true gem of Tallinn and a must-see attraction for anyone interested in the history and culture of the region.

The inside of this cathedral may not be super special but the outside is quite spectacular. It looks different that basically all of the other cathedrals that you are used to seeing in Europe. Unfortunately it is also really hard to get a good picture with the cathedral because it is already situated at the highest point in old town.

Can’t get over how beautiful this church is. You’re able to go inside but can’t take any photos. There is a nice, small gift shop inside. Highly recommend to any travelers visiting Estonia. Even if you only have one day, be sure to walk by the cathedral and get some photos!

One of the must visit places in Tallinn. Very attractive and beautiful Orthodox Russian church. It's beautiful outside as well as inside. The color is so pretty. The dome of the church is visible from far as well. Free entrance to the church. Head cover for ladies.

Beautiful Orthodox cathedral dominating the Toompea hill. You cannot (and should not) miss it on your way to the Parliament or the panoramas if the upper town. To my taste even more grandiose during a sunny winter day - see picture.

A very nice and open orthodox cathedral just across from the Estonian parliament and castle. Still acts as a local church despite the location. Lots of nice paintings and icons around the church and some fantastic stained glass windows above the altar. Well worth a visit, take a seat and admire the art work.

Such a beautiful building and city, definitely recommend to come in the summer since the winter can be pretty brutal. Nonetheless such a beautiful country, and one of the safest for women traveling alone.

Incredibly beautiful place of worship! We did go in but wanted to enjoy the inside for ourselves - and you should too! Would recommend a visit as it’s so nice to experience the culture and atmosphere of this city and all its places. It’s a gorgeous building, well maintained. Tucked away in the streets.

I had a truly awe-inspiring experience at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Tallinn. The magnificent architecture, intricate details, and rich history of this iconic landmark left me captivated. Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by the stunning mosaics and grandeur of the interior. The cathedral's serene ambiance and spiritual atmosphere made it a truly memorable visit. A must-see for anyone exploring Tallinn's cultural and architectural gems.

Visiting the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is not only a visual feast but also an opportunity to learn about Tallinn's cultural heritage. The cathedral serves as a cultural and historical landmark, preserving traditions and stories that have shaped the city's identity. The cathedral's Russian Revival architecture, with its stunning onion domes and ornate façade, is a sight to behold. The exterior, adorned with elaborate mosaics and exquisite carvings, is a testament to the craftsmanship and artistry of its time. Upon entering the cathedral, you are greeted by a serene and solemn atmosphere. The interior is equally breathtaking, with awe-inspiring frescoes, intricate iconostasis, and delicate stained glass windows that allow soft rays of light to filter through. Recommendation: Bring cash, if you wish to buy candles or some souveniers/take aways.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is an orthodox cathedral in central Tallinn. It was built 1894–1900 when the country was part of the Russian Empire. The cathedral is dedicated to the grand prince of Kiev, and later saint, Alexander Nevsky. As the USSR was officially non-religious, many churches including the cathedral were left to fall into disrepair but since the end of the Soviet occupation of Estonia in 1991 it has been restored.

Spectacular cathedral from the outside. The golden mosaics are beautiful when the sun hits them at the right time of day - we visited it a few times and it was always the most beautiful on a sunny afternoon. No pictures inside, even though many don’t respect this rule.

Beautiful, it sticks out like a sore thumb. It is an impressive and well built church it Somehow does not fit in with the ambience of old town. The inside is spectacular. From floor to ceiling its beautiful, the gold finishing makes it something worth remembering. Best thing about this is that the entry is free.

What an amazing architecture. Russian design. Now that it is not possible to go to Russia, this is the next best thing to seeing the churches in Russia. Photography not allowed in church. You can buy russian dolls from the church shop along with many other religion related items

Beautiful cathedral in the Old Town of Tallinn. The exterior is reminiscent of a mini Kremlin with bulbous towers. This is the finest cathedral in Estonia in my opinion. You can also enter the cathedral for free but pictures are not allowed.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is an orthodox cathedral on Toompea hill in central Tallinn, Estonia. It was built to a design by Mikhail Preobrazhensky in a typical Russian Revival style in 1894–1900, when the country was part of the Russian Empire. The cathedral is Tallinn's largest orthodox cupola church.

Nicely preserved medieval architecture. Some parts were closed off due to covid restrictions and renovations, but still very much a nice church to visit. The gift shop is also well stocked with orthodox christian souvenirs.
