A must visit in Tallinn. The views of Tallinn from the skydeck is amazing. You can see such magnificent pieces of art and learn about the city's historical heritage. Would highly recommend a visit here. Tickets are 12€ per person.

This 13th century church has undergone serious renovation after being nearly destroyed during WWII. Beautiful, airy and spacious, it is now used as a concert hall and art museum. Apart from the permanent exhibition there are also always interesting temporary exhibitions running.

Only worth it with the Tallinn card and if you have nothing better to visit 8 Euros for a Church which doesn't even have that much in terms of objects is preposterous

Beautiful to admire the gorgeous church from the outside. Even better to go up and see the view of the city from above.

One of Tallinn's medieval churches has now got a modern, even futuristic see-through elevator to the so called skydeck, where one can get an astonishing view of the city. Highly recommend. The church has changing exhibitions as well. Must visit. :)

This is a medieval church dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron of the fishermen and sailors. The building itself has since been restored, however, as a church without own congregation, it has not been used for regular religious activities since World War II and now it a museum. In the permanent exhibition of the museum, you will encounter eight hundred years of history and culture in an important medieval building. The price to enter are: Adults: €5.00/Concessions: €3.00 Free admission under 18 years of age. From 16 September: Adults: €6.00/Concessions: €4.00 Free admission under 18 years of age.

Amazing church, loved the expos and paintings. Learned a lot about history, especially about Tallinn and WW2. The Dance Macabre was awesome, really well exposed. The staff there was also nice and really welcoming, enjoyed my visit and time there 😊

Best place to listen for the organ music. The way the seats arranged allows to fully enjoy the acoustic of the place. You literally feel the sound of it with your body. A bit costy entrance, but you get to see the silver chamber exposition and famous "Totetanz"(death dance) fragment. It is authors miniature copy painting which is THE MUST SEE if you are in Tallinn.

Really wonderful old church which is huge inside, and has so many interesting and intricate works of medieval art, including the "Dance of Death". I was lucky to come when they happened to be having a music recital so enjoyed the background music during my visit. I was in Tallinn on a 9-hour stopover on a Norwegian Getaway 9-day Baltic Cruise in August 2019. Rick Steves "Scandinavian & Northern European Cruise Ports" Guidebook was a great help and this church was part of the self-guided "Tallinn Walk" in the book.

The 8 euros ticket for the entrance is way too much expensive.

Nice place. Got the best view of the whole Tallinn city on the tower. There is a lift to reach the top of the tower, so no need to climb the stairs. Worth a go!

Beautiful church surrounded by beautiful shops. Buy some watercolors from the artist who sits outside with his beautiful collection.

It is a great church art museum with a small but well equipped store. Worth seeing is the life sized Death Dance by Bernd Notke's atelier. However, the outside is ghastly, and the mismatching colors and styles havent improved much since the last renovation. Now apparently there will be a lift as well in the tower, which should rather be implemented in Oleviste.

Loved the place! amazing views from the tower. Great place if you want to see the arts of the middle ages. Sittow-workshop exposition is great! The death dance is also amazing. At 4pm there organ music is playing. I really enjoyed the visit!

A lovely church, now a museum. The best bit was taking the glass lift up the tower to see the stunning views from the top. The younger, fitter, more adventurous tourist might choose to take the stairs. The views from the tower windows were well worth the entry fee. There are also toilets located on the ground floor, and free lockers- no bags or belongings are permitted inside. Definitely worth a visit, especially to view the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

Really good sunday afternoon optional. To the sound of an organ concerto rehearsal, we visited the medieval exposition of Tallinn. I may not have seen more beautiful silver goblets than black-headed beer before. Intriguing exposition. And after the Death dance, the most beautiful 360 panorama of Tallinn.

Hienoja tauluja ym. torni johon lasihissillä, hyvät näkymät. Itselle sattui harmaa räntäkeli, kesällä upea poiketkaa joskus. Näkymät joka suuntaan. Tulin vanhoja torninrappuja alas yli 200 askelmaa en suosittele kaikille.

St.Nicholas Church is my favourite Church in Tallinn. The great painting of Bernd Notke "Dance if the Dead" is a must see. The view over Tallinn from the top of the Church Tower is breathtaking. I can only recommend it!

Beautiful church with historic items. But the tower and viewing platforms are the absolute highlight. A must if you're visiting Tallinn for beautiful 360 views.

  • 5/5 Linda L. 3 months ago on Google New
If you are going just for the view and have physical restrictions, be sure to ask if the glass elevator is open before paying the entrance fee. I highly recommend taking the tight, stone, spiral staircase, but it's unforgiving if you can't stomach the trek up. The Dance of Death was by far my favorite exhibit.

Beautiful church but nothing amazing. If you want to go up a tower go up St. Olavs which has a better view!

  • 3/5 Ryan T. 10 months ago on Google
Beautiful church with gorgeous views from the top of the tower. Only real drawback was the staff which struggled with English and could at times be a little rude. Entry fee is a whopping 12€ per adult which is on the higher side.

  • 5/5 Hin-Yan L. 9 months ago on Google
Definitely get up into the tower to see old Tallinn from above. The Dance Macabre is something! As are the intricate altar pieces on display.

Beautiful Church. It has plenty of small stairs and at some point, it gets pretty narrow. Nonetheless worth a visit!

Unfortunately it is temporarily closed due to renovation. They are adding and observation desk and elevator to the tower. This Gothic landmark was originally erected in the 13th century but almost all that remains is from the 15th century. You will notice stone skull and crossbones carving at the entrance to the chapel, near the church’s main door. Stone carving was an important element in Estonian architecture, was largely done in dolomite and sandstone. The building has served as a museum since it was extensively restored during Soviet times after being damaged by Soviet bombing raids in World War II. It is home to most of Tallinn’s medieval artworks – many of which were destroyed in the Protestant riots of 1524. According to legend, however, St. Nicholas’ Church escaped being ransacked due to the quick thinking of the church’s warden, who sealed the door with melted lead. The 15th-century frieze Danse Macabre by Bernt Notke is the chef-d’œuvre of the church. Only a portion of the 30-meter original remains.

A restored church after decimation in the second world war, filled with impressive ecclesiastical works of art. I was lucky enough to visit during a beautiful choir concert which coloured my view even more positively than it would otherwise have been

I advise you just to see the church from the outside. The entrance is expensive for what it offers.

  • 5/5 Reindee Jules M. 2 years ago on Google
Very well preserved/renovated church, the Danse Macabre by Bernt Notke was definitely the best part.

  • 5/5 Graham G. 2 years ago on Google
Home to the largest surviving dans macabre on canvas. Huge, sprawling canvas set in a beautiful cathedral.

For a small place it definitely was a good combination between a church and a museum. Lots of old relics from the past and some very famous paintings like the dance of death was there

Nice museum in the former church. Must to visit to persons who likes art and/or history.

Permanent exhibition of ecclesiastical art, including a part of a Danse Macabre painting. Currently also an exhibition regarding St Dymphna. Very informative and entertaining. It's there until the end of October. Looking forward to the next one.
