Interesting place to visit for all interested in the sea and maritime traffic. They show a lot of fine ship models. On the top there is a fine roof top terasse. Good to combine with a visit to the seaplane harbour museum. 25 Euros for both tickets. Good mobility for the handicapped with a central elevator going to all floors.

Great experience and museum. You learn a lot of about the history of Estonia. There are a number of things to know. If you are not interested in marine life or marine history, this place may not be for you. It's best experienced with family or friends.

Old Town Location - Despite the rude ladies in reception, quality museum with lots of ship models and one of the best views of Tallinn from roof.

I was pleasantly surprised with this museum! It is very modern, detailed and interactive! Lots of interesting parts both for kids and adults! Also, it's a great use of the space and it has a lovely view on the top of the tower! Even if you have limited time in Tallinn I think you should include this museum in your visit, you won't regret it!

Great museum on the maritime history of Estonia. Exhibition is highly informative and interactive and exciting from bottom to top. All corners in the round layout sport interesting details and cool ways of interacting with history. Very impressed

Museum was very interesting and very modern ! There is one floor for each type of boat. 1st is about sailing boats, 2nd is steamboats and 3rd is about motorboats. For children there a many small games that help you learn how international trade worked at the middle age, how boats are made,... + Surprise is the last floor that is a rooftop and gives you a view on all the city ! I think this museum is great for families and for people interested by the theme.

Tuna Tataki was little bit over cooked but very good seasoning. Butter fried pikeperch fillet was exceptionally cooked and vegetables were amazingly fresh.

The museum spans in 4 floors and it is very interactive! It presents in detail the maritime evolution from medieval times to modern age. The entrance fee is 15 euro for the exhibition and if you are craving for more you can always purchase a combo ticket and visit another attraction! However, even if you are not into maritime museums it is totally worth it just for the views from the terrace. After a long tour in the museum, you definitely deserve a refreshing beer!

If you are interested in ships and its models, this place will definitely attract your attention. They are almost real. There are also old real ships in the museum. Don’t expect something like Vasa Museum in Stockholm, but still good. You can also bring your children for fun and they will be interested. After you see the whole museum, go to the top floor by using the elevator and see the view of Tallinn. You can also get some coffee there and enjoy the old town view. Lastly; 15 Euro is too expensive for this museum. I don’t know why they are keeping the museum prices incredibly high.

This is an excellent museum located within one of the bastions of the old town of Tallinn. It offers an interesting account of the significance of the the Baltic Sea to Tallinn. There are plenty of interactive exhibits and video installations. This is also an excellent place to explore with children

Nice small museum. If interested in Estonian maritime history from ancient times though medieval Hanseatic routs to recent history. Crown jewel of the modern exhibition is one of the largest survived wreck of a true Hanseatic cog ("koge"), almost 20 m of true medieval shipping history. Also very nice collection on ship models and other artefacts from various eras. Also a cafeteria on the rooftop of the museum, which is actually itself an important land mark - former cannon tower which later served as a prison. Highly recommended for an hour or two.

I loved the museum! I strongly recommend it to all visitors to the city. The stories told by audio and video are amazing and the sky over the cog was magical.

Interesting various ship model museum. Listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, the complex provides an overview of maritime trade, agencies, and navigation in the Middle Ages, as well as in the era of sailing, steam, and motor ships. There is a total of 1,000 m² of exhibition space. The star exhibit is the 700-year-old Koge wreck found in Kadriorg in 2015. There are about 70 ship models out of which 17 have been created especially for the exhibition, nearly 700 items, and 50 digital and hands-on solutions.

We bought the combined tickets for both the Maritime Museum and Lennusadam (seaplane harbor museum) to save 5 Euros. We ended up spending the entire day at the two museums-there is so much to see! If you like to take it slow and try to absorb something from what is on display, you can easily spend your entire day at these two museums. The Maritime Museum is in the Fat Margaret Tower and gives an overview of Estonia maritime history from oldest to most recent as you ascend the floors in the tower. There is extensive use of multimedia and interactive displays (great if you have kids), along with placards containing historical information in multiple languages for all of the maps, photos, artifacts, and ship models. The exhibition finishes on the open top of the tower. There is seating available and it looks like there is a cafe, but it was closed during our May visit.

If you have time for one museam, then make it the seaside harbor. This one while interesting, was not really eye-catching. The audio guide could use some work, and signs how to best navigate the museum would not be amiss. Still interesting:)

The rooftop terrace was lovely, and easy to get to by lift. Beautiful view in a historical setting. Didn't tour the museum but will do that next time as it looked interesting. If your not into history, the rooftop terrace alone is worth a visit.

This is a wonderful museum, presented in a really engaging and inspiring way. Whether you are someone with a lot of knowledge or none, and however deep you want to go into this stuff, visit this site and the Seaplane Harbour. We loved our time here and could have easily stayed longer. And the staff are professional and really helpful. The best museum we have been to in a long time... Highly recommended.

This 16th-century tower’s suggestive name comes from the fact that it was the largest part of the city’s fortifications with walls measuring 4 meters thick. It was initially constructed to defend the harbour as well as to enthral visitors arriving by sea. Later, the tower was transformed into a prison. Fat Margaret’s Tower is now home to the Estonian Maritime Museum and features an interesting collection of nautical paraphernalia spread out over four levels.

A very well made museum. We were impressed with the amount of information and how detailed and interactive it is made. There are variety of puzzles and activities for kids. And there are interesting information for adults, timeline of history of trading goods in Estonia and port if Tallinn. Highly recommended. You can have a panorama view at the top of the tower as well. Leaving a lovely memory of the red roofs of the old town.

  • 5/5 Amir D. 1 year ago on Google
A lovely museum with lots of information about the Estonian Maritime history, you can also climb up to the red roof and have a beautiful view of the city. Strongly recommended for visitors in Tallin!

  • 4/5 Emma S. 7 months ago on Google
Definitely the most interesting thing about this place is the old boat they found and have displayed at the beginning of the visit. The second thing is the viewing platform on the roof. It's an interesting museum if you are interesting in maritime (trade) history. It was a number of different items spread out across a few floor. If you have the time, I say it's worth a quick visit.

In Tallinn for the day. Wrapped up our exploration of Old Town at the Maritime Museum. Give yourself an hour if not more to explore this very informative and well layer out museum. Buy a Tallinn Card in advance and save if you're going to visit multiple places. I did and glad I saw a note from someone else. Great tip! The museum is 5 stories. The top has an overlook off the top. Great views. Highly recommend on your visit to Tallinn.

The Seaside wall of Old Town and a passage. Marine museum inside and a new trendy rooftop bar. Its a glorious architecture in this well preserved and lively old town with doing time traveling

The museum is located on several floors, adapted to both adult and young visitors. The multitude of attractions means that no one will be bored. The entrance to the museum is very inconspicuous, you might not notice it. On the roof there is an observation deck and a bar. It is most profitable to buy a combined ticket with the Lennusadam museum.

I wasn't that sure about going to a maritime museum as it's not my thing, but wow, what an amazing job they have done to bring this to life. We could have stayed all day. The children loved it as it was so interactive, and the opportunity to go into a real submarine is not to be missed.

  • 4/5 Luke P. 6 months ago on Google
A museum showcasing the maritime history of Tallinn. It also has a cafe and an observation deck on its rooftop, given its interesting venue, which is a historical circular tower gate. The view from the roof was not bad, and the exhibitions were informative, featuring a lot of ship models. Worth a visit if you're a maritime fan or if you have the time. Entrance is free with Tallinn Card.

Definitely worth visiting especially for those who work at sea. A number of old navigational instruments that can now only be seen in pictures. Photos of people "made of steel" who were able to work in such a harsh environment.

Nice little museum. However this is NOT the wonderful museum with the submarine, icebreaker, amazing displays. For that, search Seaplane Harbour Museum. THAT one really rocks and is worth your hard-earned money. This one is find expensive.

Fantastic place, everything is so genuine and cool, building, guides, coffee and the view from the wall. I had a very special guiding with a real and outstanding guide, Ülle, a woman of power, knowledge and passion - a true human;)

All in all a nice place. Very nice collection of model ships. Several stands where you can listen stories and watch interactive presentations. Very nice terrace with a beautyful view to the port. Terrace also has a Caffe where you can have some food and drinks while enjoying the view. The grownup ticket of 12€ seemed personally a bit too much.

Really good exhibition with lots of interactive boards and also games for kids. It even has something for karaoke lovers! Recommend for the whole family!

  • 5/5 Brisippus 2 years ago on Google
Interesting place and worth a stop even if you aren’t a maritime enthusiast. The bottom floor with the historical artifacts and interactive map showing trade routes was my favorite exhibit. The first couple of floors are built under and around the remnants of an old cog ship, so you are able to see the underneath, sides, and top while working your way through the museum. The exhibits work their way towards modernity as you go up, and the top floor is an observation deck. It’s also situated in a beautiful part of town, adjacent from the Three Sisters. A great way to spend an hour or two.

Both locations were absolutely amazing so educational and fun. So much to see and do with activities suitable for all ages

  • 5/5 Haly L. 2 years ago on Google
A really impressive place with a lot of effort put into making it as interactive as possible. While it appeared to me that it does not have many maritime historic exhibits (some boats, submarine, small exhibitions), it has a big number of WWII maritime guns and weapons where you can actually climb in and “try them out” from the inside (so sad!). Apart from that, kids have a lot of fun at the VR corner, a fighter plane simulator, or remote controlled toy ships.

  • 4/5 Sooryajith P. 1 year ago on Google
A good collection of miniatures of ships from different eras and also stuffs related to the history of ships and navigation related to Estonia. Coffee/beer from the top floor restaurant, with that view is a bonus!

  • 5/5 Kira Svane K. 2 years ago on Google
Great museum! Good exhibitions with a good flow between then. The two lower levels is definitely the most interesting!

  • 3/5 Mireia P. 2 years ago on Google
Interesting but a little bit expensive in my opinion. 15 euros per person. For that price would be nice to have the audio guides included in the price ( 2 euros more ).

  • 2/5 Konstantinos K. 2 years ago on Google
Expensive for what they offer. Basically the only interesting thing is the wreck that found recently.

  • 5/5 Jakub J. 2 years ago on Google
Awesome place with many models, interactive displays and many more. Really covers maritime history from start to now. Really surprised how good it was.

A gem that deserves more attention! A nice escape in the heart of the old town and a spot you shouldn’t miss! It is a very interesting and interactive museum that is suitable and fun for all ages and you’ll leave having fun. It doesn’t take a lot of time to explore and I would recommend the audio guide for even more laidback experience. The sew chanting karaoke is absolutely my favorite right after the rooftop, you should never miss the rooftop for a gorgeous view and delicious food!

Estonian Maritime Museum, Paks Margareeta is a clear example on how to transform something old into a cultural gem. The location of the museum is right at the entrance of the old city. The museum was a clear structure and it's easy to navigate inside. Each floor has a particular theme, showcasing the old traditions to present time. It is wonderful for children as well since they can interact with various elements inside the museum. The top floor hosts a superb terrace with a wonderful view of the city. For us it was a great museum experience therefore we can highly recommend it.

Large museum with lots of hands-on exhibits, interactive exhibits, models, and excavated artifacts. The rooftop terrace had a lovely view of the city. We had a hard time getting our son to leave, he loved the interactive exhibits.
