It is a beautiful place and the walls of the castle are amazing. We just saw from outside, and consider that during winter it is hard to walk in the stairs

I dont think you can go inside the castle, its written the parliament of estonia on the building now. Although no guard or anything, there isnt any access inside the castle. But there is an opening to the garden next to the castle, its small but neat and beautiful.. you also can view some scenary from the garden cos its located higher than the surroundings.

Important site in modern Estonian history (watch The Singing Revolution!) and no doubt earlier as well. We tried to visit the interior of the castle but failed: after seeing no real signage for Toompea Castle, we finally pulled open an unlabeled door behind a sign for "Riigikogu" (Parliament), whereupon a slightly sleepy attendant informed us that entry is only possible on Tuesday and Thursday at 11 am. There was nothing left to do but gaze up at the balcony outside and think about the film and that critical moment in Estonian history.

Guided tour is very helpful - otherwise it is just a large building. But a good guide make the palace and castle alive.

This is a medieval castle on Toompea hill in the central part of the city. Nowadays it houses the Parliament of Estonia. The castle has been revamped countless times through the centuries, but still retains the basic shape it was given in the 13th and 14th centuries. From its front, you’ll be able to see a pink, Baroque palace dating to the time of Catherine the Great. And a look at its opposite side, visible from the base of the hill, will give you a much more medieval perspective. Toompea Castle is open to the public and guided tours are free of charge and can be taken in Estonian, Russian or English.

Toompea castle which is also the home to the Estonian parliament, it is a beautiful building with an extraordinary setting at the top of the town surrounded by the city walls. There is a nice square in front of the building and a park to the left where you can overlook thev town from above. The tour and opening times changes so check their website.

Old castle. Very beautiful and looks like it came from a Disney movie.

Beautiful spot for a view and to admire the well-preserved ramparts. Opposite the Orthodox church and currently serves as the parliament building.

Absolutely stunning expressionist architecture from early last century, that is the estonian parliaments plenary building integrated into the medieval fortress. Well worth a visit to what looks to be an epitome of a so-called humble government. We came with a preregistred group and had no waiting time. Checkin and security check were handled very professionally and our tour guide had a lot of competence and a good pace.

Castle is not that interesting and part o the building is not there anymore. Worth the visit because there is a beautiful church in front.

A former castle and royal residence that dates back to the medieval times, Toompea Castle now functions as the central location for the Estonian government, where the parliament sits. The place is usually closed to public visits as it's a government building, but occasionally holds public tours (either twice or once per week). We were lucky to be able to join a tour in August on a Thursday, when the parliament was not in session, where we were given a thorough briefing of Estonian history and caught a glimpse of the different sections of the building. You can learn more about the public tours through the website, no sign ups required, they just need a photo ID from you with a security check. Really enjoyed the behind the scene tour into the building and its inner workings. Even without the tour, it's worth just dropping by the area to just admire the function of the place and its rich history.

Toompea Castle’s placid pink facade belies its history. The castle complex is now home to Riigikogu (Estonia’s Parliament), but for some 700 years, it belonged to various occupying foreign powers. The castle stands on the former site of a 9th-century wooden fortress that was conquered by the Danes in 1219, who built the stone fortifications around the hill, much of which remain. The structure has been modified by everyone who has conquered it since then and the Parliament building which was built in 1920-1922 is the sole expressionist parliament building in the world. The northern and western walls of the castle, include three defensive towers, the most laudable of which is the 50-meter tall Pikk Hermann, dating from 1371. These crumbling towers were often depicted in old Soviet films, especially fairy tales.

Beautiful serene place to visit. Toompea Castle...what can one say that hasn't been said. So I'm not going to try, just added the following from Google/Wikipedia to save others the extra bit of searching: Toompea Castle (Estonian: Toompea loss, Latin: Castrum Danorum) is a castle on Toompea hill in the central part of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. The castle, an ancient stronghold site in use since at least the 9th century, today houses the Parliament of Estonia.[1] Rather than pics of the inside, I've added more pics from below the castle looking up and around. There are usually a lot of young folk playing basketball directly below. The walking tracks below are very nice. I ride my bike around there quite a bit.

A must see in Tallinn! Plan the day to see everything and bring good walking shoes.

Rich in history and a very conservative area of the city. Bustling with cruise ship tourists in the summer time but pretty much traditions still adhered to especially the neighboring church. Area is full of life with colors and unique architectures reflecting the Russian influence in the country.

As a fan of Viewpoints, Tallinn knew how to tickle my fancy. At the castle 's viewpoint you get amazing views from the north side of the city. In sunny days it gets even better. Do expect crowds of tourists, but nothing too dramatic. Most are from cruisers tours and they don't linger around for too long. Enjoy!
