The visit to the history museum was amazing, Estonians have an immense depth of history. We went through the path of viewing magnificent shaped statues and other incredible spots. It's worth visiting

Really nice place to visit. Lovely views to Tallinn and also houses a collection of old Soviet statues that have been stored in various pieces since being removed from places across Estonia after independence. There is a very rich history about this building going back 100s of years. Worth googling.

Great content as the museum of Estonian history! One can spend 5-6 hours if they read everything. Content is very thorough and illustrated through objects. There is a free audioguide for smaller objects. Don't expect to see much of the Castle though, as it's been heavily reformed. There are miniatures showing how the castle used to be. Was 5 euros on February due to independence holiday.

Loved it. Went to see the statues from the soviet era and it was not a disappointment. The Estonian history is a massive intake and these were a inspiration to look into it deeper.

I recently visited Maarjamae Castle in Tallinn, Estonia and was absolutely blown away by the beauty and history of the place. The castle, which dates back to the 13th century, has been impeccably preserved and the guided tour provided a wealth of information about the castle's past and its role in Estonian history. One of the highlights of the visit was getting to see the beautifully ornate interior of the castle, which has been restored to its former glory. The attention to detail in the restoration is truly impressive and really brings the castle to life. In addition to the castle itself, the grounds are also worth exploring. The gardens are beautifully kept and provide a peaceful respite from the bustle of the city. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to Maarjamae Castle for anyone visiting Tallinn. It's a truly special place that offers a glimpse into the past and is sure to be a highlight of any trip to Estonia.

Great museum! There were a lot of different things from Estonian history to have a look at, as well as an extensive coin and banknote collection from the Baltic countries. In the beginning you watch a movie to start off the tour, and the woman who worked there was very helpful and explained everything about the museum in English for us. You get to climb the tower in the end and get a great view of the surroundings from the top, definitely worth a visit!

Hieno paikka, jossa historiallisen museon lisäksi myös elokuvamuseo ja lasinäyttely. Suosittelen vierailemaan.

One of the best national history museums I’ve been to, the Estonian History Museum brilliantly tells the story of the nation, with a clear narrative and plenty to read, see and watch. The castle is worth the visit alone to see, with quirky architecture, and behind it is a collection of Communist era statues. Allow a couple of hours, it is well worth the trip out of the Old Town to visit

Nice museum, Estonian history (interesting facts), as usually not enough time to learn it all, nevertheless much of it known to us before (like Red Army, I. and II. WW, influences of former Soviet Union on Balkan and former Yugoslavia, constalation of Estonian Republic, influences of Danish Kingdom/Crown, German influences:Singer old sawing machine, AEG old kitchen appliances etc.). There is also Cinema/Movies related Museum nearby, both worth of the visit.

If it’s nice weather then it’s well worth it to go, and later get some bite to eat, waiting will take a bit longer when busy

Museum covering Estonia, Soviet monuments and one covering National films (that we didn't go to). Was all very well displayed in English, certainly worth a visit

Had a big exhibition on dogs, their genetics and history of their inaction with mankind.Fair bit about the manor house, and recent war traumas. This , of course is the history of Latvia.Behind the musem there is a sobering collection of ex communist statues. Also a film element to view.

Beautiful renovated castle by the sea built in the second hald of the 19th century by a Russian count from St Petersburg back when Tallinn was used by Russian nobility as a summer resort The museum of history is a concept I've seen before: very heavy on the reading with exhibits meant to give hints as to how the people in that period lived. It's not bad, but if you are familiar with the history, or if you come from a former communist county you will have wasted your money essentially... The curation is exemplary but they let in way too many people with children and the noise level is one of the highest I've ever experienced in a museum. Since it's heavy on the reading it's close to impossible to focus on the spot so I ended up taking pictures of the text. Unfortunately the info while useful to someone unfamiliar with the story wasn't that compelling for me I did appreciate the fact that they include even contemporary events in the exhibition, giving the present a chance to shine as part of History

Beautiful castle and at the time, had these amazing Soviet era statues. The museum in the castle provides a great wealth of information relating to Estonian history and culture from World War 1 until present time. All the reading will make you head hurt but it's worth it

Count Anatoli Orlov-Davydov (1837–1905) who lived in St. Petersburg, bought the plot with its existing buildings in 29 January 1873. The castle was built 1874. He named the place Marienberg, probably in honour of his wife, Maria. The Estonian version of the name is Maarjamäe. During the 1917 revolution, the Orlov-Davydov family emigrated from Russia and the summer manor was rented out, later sold to the government. Today the castle and the surrounding is hosting the Estonian history museum.
