KGB Prison Cells

Tourist attraction ā€¢ Museum

šŸ‘ Small depressing museum but only because of the nature of the building. The ā€˜museumā€™ is only the cell area on one floor at basement level. It it is well laid maintained an interesting. Canā€™t help feeling that the pesky Ruskies are still doing the same to Ukrainian soldiers and civilians as I write.... People often mention museum, small, history, visit, cells, worth, people, good, prison, Soviet,

Good to know more about Estonian prison places and history as this place only starts open for public from 2017. Quite expensive as it costs 4ā‚¬ for students Should visit with Occupation Museum tgt

If you are not buying the Tallinn city card you can definitely consider this. It's evident there were real people belonging to a family tortured in these rooms. The entry price is fairly cheap. Hard to forget torture cells !

Dark part of Estonian history. Museum in real former KGB prison cells. Atmosphere there is very heavy- all written on info sheets was actually really happening there. Museum itself is very small- but find punishment single cell to compareā€¦

5 Euro for a couple of former KGB cells with a bunch of info thrown in It's good for about a quarter of an hour, maybe less if you know your history this is a Museum for people who are clueless about history and, of course, like anything in this country it's overpriced Because Stalin and the commies were wrong, but we are noble in climbing over dead bodies making money out of thin air from dumb tourists

This is an informative but disappointing museum. Luckily I got the student discount otherwise I would've complained about this rip-off. Even if you read all the descriptions on the wall, you will not spend more than 30 minutes here. You could just skip this one and use the money for something else. I didn't buy the combi-ticket but it might be worth a shot.

Interesting to read the history of prison cells, but this museum is just a very small place, and for 5ā‚¬ ticket price you can see other more interesting places.

Small and quick to visit, in a good way. Quite shocking to see the atrocities of soviet regime. And to realize nothing has changed. Makes you appreciate the countries where freedom still prevails and how important it is to fight for it.

A simple museum that depicts the brutality of the Soviet Union. While small, the museum serves an apt reminder on how important freedom is, and highlights the torturous condition of living under an oppressive state. It was sobering looking at the condition of the cells. Entry is free for Tallinn Card holders so this is a must visit.

Worth a visit. A lot went on in the years from 1918 until 1991. 73 years of torturous intimidation by the KGB well displayed. Impressive!

Oppressive exhibition of measures to suppress the freedom of people through an authoritarian system. Estonians can be happy having left this era behind (even though they were denied a full historical analysis as the KGB moved all files to Russia before the collapse of the notorious USSR). I felt that it were well spent 8ā‚¬ for the experience and the information obtained.

If you are in to history and in Tallinn, this is where you need to go. The museum is small, but very interesting. This location was used by the KGB to detain and interrogate people. Placards and photographs provide a good amount of detail about the facility and KGB operations in Estonia.

It was shocking to learn about the history here. Itā€™s a really somber and respectful environment. I visited here the second time I went to Tallinn and it increased my appreciation for the city.

Expect more from this museum. Thought it was bigger and there would be more to see, but it turned out to be a small underground place with a few prison cells. Tickets were 8 euros, took about 15 minutes to see it through.

A fascinating museum that doesn't shy away from the horrors that occurred at the site. I think the entry price is a little high for the size of the space, and after one visit you won't feel you need to return - the small, claustrophobic space with it's temperature and humidity will just be a small taste of the true nature of the space when it was a centre for torture and terror.

Very small museum, informative enough. Entrance was ā‚¬8 which I think is bit steep as 30min is sufficient.

  • 2/5 Eric L. 11 months ago on Google
It was actually reasonably interesting although more effort could have been bringing it to life. But at ā‚¬7 per adult (concessionary at that) to see 6 rooms and some badly presented accounts, it was extremely overpriced.

Hi there, the idea is pretty cool, but honestly 8ā‚¬/p.P as entry is way too much. This place has to offer a lot of history, but it wasn't worth it. We needed 20 minutes to explore this place. Fair price would be like 4ā‚¬.

8 Euros entrance is a bit pricey for this relatively small exhibition but it's fairly good curated and about a very important topic.

Somber, harrowing, and moving. A tense atmosphere but definitely worth the experience to educate oneself about a not too long ago past. The Freedom Board is a reminder of the sorrows that still exist just across the border.

Very sad place filled with history. However it is quite overpriced for a 10-minute museum. You can explore 5 reconstructed cells and read a lot of text and then it's done.

It was OK, but the ticket is too expansive considering the service that the building offers

This place is a good place to visit. If the walls could talk im sure they would have some horrible stories to tell.

  • 3/5 Sven 1 year ago on Google
From the outside very non-descript. One would not think what had happened here in the past. The museum is small and okay if you anyhow pass by

  • 5/5 Nikos G. 1 year ago on Google
This place has a good and a bad story. The bad part is related to its basement which was used as KGB prison, meaning that hundreds or more people were tortured. Today you can visit it to see yourself the situation these people faced. Also there is a small Belarusian antiregime exhibition. The good part of this building is that it was the place where the Estonian independence was proclaimed in 1918. The building itself is well maintained and it's an example of Art Nouveau architecture.

Really nice and museum about the prison cells of the KGB. The museum is kind of small, but highly informative and the fee is worth it. The staff is friendly and supportive. I would highly recommend it!

Itā€™s a reminder of what people went through during the Soviet occupation. Iā€™ve read the peopleā€™s stories, itā€™s definitely a place worth visiting. Funny enough, the Russian Embassy is 50 meters away I think.

It's hard to say i loved it for what it really is, but it's important to remember what the Russian occupants did to our families, for decades. Worth visiting and spending the time to read. A stark reminder that some regimes don't change all that much, even today!

Well worth seeing for five euros. Lots to learn here as you are given a stark reminder of the Soviet past.

A cool place to visit, but a small cell and quick over. Just a place cool to have been at

Very glad that this was saved as a museum. Very chilling to see the cells and some great information about how to behave before and during interrogation. I also love how the toilet is made out of a cell. There isn't a whole lot to see but it is whole the small ā‚¬6, or around the mark, ticket price. Fittingly, the building was slightly tricky to find.

Stumbled upon this little but ever so popular basement museum as we were heading towards the usual tourist haunts. A slice of macabre history, well worth the detour to visit. The rooms, cupboards and even a toilet, along with the detailed information boards and photographs give a real insight into the dark days of Soviet occupation.

The best museum we visited in Tallin! Takes just 1-1,5 hour to see everything, you get a vivid picture of the crimes of KGB against the locals

  • 5/5 Art 4 years ago on Google
This fairly new, and quite small museum succeeds in conveying the horror and madness of the Soviet occupation of Estonia and the Soviet System as such. The three language (Estonian, English, Russian) panels are descriptive, and succinct and the information is powerfully presented without embellishment or haughty detachment that is often found in other museums. Well worth a visit.
