Very good location and well connected with the Vīru Gate and town square. There are dorms as well as private rooms. We went for a private room, however if there are guests checked in to adjacent rooms, you can expect some noise/sound but that's normal for a hostel setting. If you don't mind sharing the washroom(which was very clean and well maintained), this is a great place for budget travelers.

I booked a room today for two days May 15-17. The amount was 54 euros. I am satisfied with this amount, and I paid through ApplePay. But 77 euros were written off. It's over my budget. I requested a cancellation. The booking was canceled but the money was not returned. Upon arrival in Tallinn, I will definitely write a statement to the Police about this scam. I have screenshots in e. It's unacceptable to deceive people like that! I'm from Ukraine. And I don't have much money. This difference is very significant between 54 and 77 euros. And now you do not refund me 77 euros after the cancellation. So I have to sleep outside. I will try to tell about this story in colors through my Facebook, so that people know how Ukrainians are being deceived in BOOKING.COM

Clean rooms, including the shared bathroom. Nice for tourists and many flyers available to help plan your holiday in Tallinn. One problem, however, is the complicated location. You have to go through a gate and then pick up the hostel & room key in a mailbox by a code sent to you from the hostel. (FYI: The hostel only makes up one floor of the building)

Our room was horrible. The heater had no device to turn it down so we had to constantly leave the windows open. Our matress was so old that you were sleeping on metallwire the whole night. As our room was directly next to the front door everytime someone would leave or check in we were waking up. After asking the staff to switch the rooms because this was defnetley not what we were expecting, all they had to offer was a fan to keep the room cool. The bathroom was okay. It was a little bit stinky. All in all the only positiv point is the location.

Very comfortable stay, big rooms, good facilities in the lounge/ sitting areas. Very quiet and rooms pretty soundproof.

Viru Backpackers is located right in the old town. The hostel is complete with an electric kettle, an oven toaster, a microwave oven, an electric cooker, a fridge, a dishwash set, cutlery/utensils, and a washing machine. It has a good wifi connection and hot shower. The room itself is spacious. It has many shelves to put things on and ample hanging points. The hostel is on the 3rd floor of the building. There is an elevator; but the floor nearest to the hostel where it stops is on the 4th floor. That means 2 additional short flights of stairs to reach the hostel. Shoes were to be taken off once inside the hostel. However, we noticed the group next to our room who still had their shoes on. Quiet time was also to be observed from 11pm to 8am. Some occupants did not respect this. Aside from that, noise such as doors closed hard could easily be heard from our room due to the building's acoustics.

I stayed here for two nights with my woman. Our stay was quite nice. Our room was on the top floor, seperated from the rest of the hostel and as such quite calm. There was a seperate bathroom, toilet, fridge and microwave to use. Room itself was simple and good. A second pillow would have been nice to sit upright against the hard wooden frame. I can't really judge the hostel itself as I barely was there. It seems like this hostel is changing fully into a self-check in hostel and as such it came across a bit dead and unpersonal. Don't expect a regular hostel experience here, as it's more like a cheap and shared hotel room than an actual hostel. Location was great.

Nice hostel in the old town. Rooms are clean, except the windowsills. Those really could be cleaned PLS! Room would use some hanger for towels to dry. Fan was a plus. Toilets were clean, showers too. Just both showers has such a SMALL sink. Please consider install bigger one at least in the one with washing machine. Kitchen was nice and organized.

Really enjoyed my stay here. Had a private room both times. Exceptional value. Don't expect too much from the Self Catering kitchen, it is small and dated, but adequate. Friendly staff. Have fun finding it in the dark. The pitch black courtyard beyond the iron security gate, and the dark grey lobby are reminiscent of a former era! But when you arrive on the 3rd floor, the hostel itself is bright and welcoming!

Nice and quiet place (except for the noise from the street cafe at night), the receptionist was very kind and gave me another room after mentioning that. If possible, request a room that is not at the front side of the building.

I've spend several days in this hostel. Good emplacement, you'll be in city center. Breakfast in the morning and everything was rather clean. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because there are lots of noise (it clearly isn't soundproof).

Everything is great. It is inexpensive and just in a few hundred meters from the main square.

Quite comfy hostel. Nice attention in the reception. The working hours of the reception is a little short, but it is sufficient!

This hostel is comfy and welcoming but the rooms are a bit spare and it could be a little cleaner. Although the position is great right in the old city center!

The hostel was okay, spacious rooms and it was pretty clean. I would like the bathrooms to be more often cleaned and a 24hr reception would be nice but all in all, it's a convenient hostel in the city center.

Location and staff is great; cleanliness and space in the restroom and the shower could be improved though. Also, they could really help guests by sending out guides how to access the hostel as it is quite difficult to find.

Stayed in single room.. I also stayed at elsewhere in old town ; it was even more expensive and this place was so much better ..they also have heater in the room .. My room was cozy and really nice..shared shower n toilet r clean and located near the room .. The free breakfast was included..the guy at the recption was friendly.. And feel very welcomed .thank you..will stay again for sure.. Location was great; also near tram and bus station ..that go direct to airport n Tallinn bus terminal.

Greateast hostel I've been so far. Superb cleanness and great facilities. Couldn't ask for better. Highly recommended.

Good location but the shared bathroom was kinda dirty and there are nasty springs in the mattress. While they clean they also let the trash bag exposed in the middle of the lobby until the area gets an unpleasant smell. All in all this is a mediocre one.

Overall enjoyed our stay. Pros: perfect location in the old town, walking distance to everything. Friendly and helpful staff, the receptionist made a conscious effort to say hello/goodbye every time we arrived/left. Breakfast was delicious. Cons: place was quite difficult to find, only a small piece of paper on the wall. Can get noisy as in the middle of the old town but the hostel does provide earplugs. Mattress was not very comfortable, could feel the springs. The bathrooms are right by reception so did not feel very private. The receptionist tried to charge us for the room when we arrived even though it was prepaid. It took a bit of convincing and showing our bank statement to prove we had paid already which was frustrating. Overall though we had a nice stay and would recommend.
