Very cool museum, especially underground bastion passageways! Buy full exhibition ticket to visit passages and towers. In towers there are museums. Maiden tower has nice cafes with super view, but they were closed while our visit. NB. Some steps in towers are hard to step and you should be in shape for visit. In passages there are 10-11 degrees all the year

If you are in Tallinn, this is a must visit. When entering the area to pay you have 3 options. Visit the Tower Visit the underground tunnels that are under the city wall Or do both I recommend you do both! The walk through the under ground tunnel takes you through the history of how the tunnel and walls were used over the centuries. There are signs and displays in multiple languages that make it an interesting walk. It takes some time, I would say 45 minutes or so, and it’s a good amount of walking but it’s cool and self paced. You then go into the tower which is set up as a museum as you walk up the stairs. Be aware, the stairs are steep! But you can rest at each level. Make sure to look out the port holes in the tower and get some magnificent views of the city. This is a great preserved piece of history.

This is probably the BEST sight in Tallinn. 100% worth coming here, but make sure you have at least 1.5 - 2 hours to do it properly. This is also probably the best value for money ticketed attraction we went to in Tallinn also, and I would recommend the Bastion and Ramparts/Tower tickets. There are just so many sections to this place and the walls are just so extensive. It is very impressive and the history and how the building was used over time is communicated very well. The museum also contains many interesting collections (pictured in some of the images in this review) and far better than in the National Museum of Estonia in my opinion. If you could only visit one place in Tallinn, I would suggest you visit Kiek in de Kok!

This is like a must have to people who visit Tallinn, definitely recommend to make time to visit this place and deep into history. It is also super stylish, artsy, very well made. We were offered to take blankets in case we don’t have warm clothes, bacause down there is pretty cold, so make sure you dress up well. Nice attitude and affordable prices.

This whole area was gorgeous and easy to get around as a tourist who only spoke a little Estonian. The Bastion Tunnels were not too expensive and very cool to explore. There were many exhibits inside the tunnels showing how they were used throughout history. Loved coming here and would definitely do so again!

Unfortunately the tunnels were not open due to a water issue. However the rest of the exhibition was very interesting. Depicts the history of battles in Tallinn and has some of the cannons in view. There’s also a very nice coffee shop with a great view.

The must place to visit in Tallinn! We had the opportunity to visit 3 towers and explore the history of the city, including its artists and theosophical background! The entrance fee is 8 euros for the towers and 12 if you wish to visit the bastion tunnels as well, which I totally recommend! The tunnels are 300m long with various exhibits and special lighting which makes the whole experience even more memorable!

I visited on our first time in Tallinn. The museum has many sections so it’s best to explore and be curious. It contains different subject from the history, medieval lifestyles, animals, Estonian history ect. I recommend keeping your eyes peeled for an amazing view. I really felt the bastion lacking information and continuity as many passage jump in timeline. While it’s a great museum with much to see, it sometimes was difficult to learn about objects or the history as there were signs for some artifact however still an enjoyable visit.

Beautiful museum ! It details the story of Tallinn from the beginning to now.the story of the castle, the story of the undergrounds... + Visiting the tunnels under is very untertaining ! You can also visit all 4 towers and walk on the wall. I totally recommend ! It takes ~1h30-1h45 to visit everything.

Really interesting museum across large part of history and daily life in the past. It's really fun and interesting to go through the towers and walk along them. The bastion Passages are awesome as well, filled with history! A must do in Tallinn

Great museum and facilities. Impressive underground tunnels and exhibition. We found it to be a bit too spooky for our liking, but it is in any case magnificent. 6€ for students. Allows you to walk on the city wall and explore the underground bastions and tunnels.

Very interesting museum. Totally worth the experience! We did both the tunnels and the tower. It was very interesting to walk around the underground passages. We enjoyed this part the most. Just make sure to bring a jacket as it gets quite cold down there.

The Kiek in de Kök Museum offers a captivating exploration of Tallinn's historic fortifications and military heritage. Its well-curated exhibits, engaging presentations, and panoramic views make it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and those seeking a deeper understanding of the city's past. Embrace the opportunity to peek into Tallinn's military kitchen and uncover the fascinating stories within. It is worth noting that the Kiek in de Kök Museum might not be suitable for individuals with mobility issues or those who struggle with narrow and steep staircases. The layout of the tower and its historic nature might pose some challenges for accessibility.

I’m so shocked that this place gets good reviews. It’s the worst curated museum I’ve ever seen. There is no information about what you will see, there is no signage to indicate what you will find after climbing up or down multiple staircases. I can tell you that there is nothing worth seeing up or down. The idea, story and journey are completely absent. For €12 it’s absurd. I would suggest going to the cafe which is one tower down, where you don’t need a ticket and you can see the best part of the experience…the view

Awesome museum in the Old Town of Tallinn. You can see some of the towers and city walls as well as the underground tunnels that have been part of the city defences for centuries. The exhibits cover everything from the original construction of the tunnels to their use in recent years.

Cool tunnels to visit that have a spooky feeling when not so many people are around. Lots of information on the walls about the history and free entry one Sunday a month.

We arrived early and bought a Tallinn Card in advance. Give yourself a couple hours to fully explore and learn about the museum and tunnels. Really enjoyed the history and information. Especially the tunnel system. I could be wrong but believe it's 400m and you end up at freedom square. *I saw some posts that it wasn't that informative and a waste of time. This is a self guided tour. Slow down. Read the signs and watch the videos. If you're looking for a guided tour, this is not a guided tour Highly recommend and enjoy the views above and below.

Spent a couple of hours here. One of the towers is closed so it made navigating our way around the wall a bit confusing but once we found the right entrance it was fine. We did the wall and the tunnels but you can do one or the other if you prefer.

Very interesting place. While the tunnels aren't great, however the towers once you climb to top you will get some amazing disney-like fairytale picture

  • 5/5 Jostein M. 7 months ago on Google
I loved this museum. It was a bit confusing on where to go. But be shure to have been all the way both up and down in one tower before moving on to the next one. There was a lot to see and with a great diversity!

An excellent museum, encompassing the city walls, towers and tunnels. They have used the space available masterfully, however it is a fair bit of walking and steps, for those with mobility issues.

  • 5/5 Carl T. 2 years ago on Google
Very cool museum for history lovers and adventure seekers. You get to explore hidden tunnel ways dating back to the 16th century. You also get to explore 3 different towers with incredible views and historical piece collections including an impressive array of medieval to world war II weapons. They even had a section on torture devices. You could easily spend 3 hours here, but you could also get through it all in as little as 1 hour, although at that pace I would argue you're going to miss out on a lot of cool stuff.

A tower museum and collection of (long) underground tunnels with a long history. The old, high stone stairs (and the slippery floor in the catacombes) are a bit hard on retired/older/disabled people and small children. Neitsitorn (a mistranslation from the first German tower master Hinse Meghe, Maegde (de)=girl=neitsi(ee)) with a lovely Cafe is next door, and KidK has a top level Cafe as well. The tower itself hosts a collection of armour and fortification models with a bit of town history, as well as an exhibition on animals in fiction and in daily life. Don't forget to tour the catacombes as well and plan at least 3 hours in (dont forget to watch the video presentations on the walls!). Entrance to the tunnels is not through the Danish Kings garden but through the entrance via Freedom Square (pictured). You might visit the two towers (plus nearby Marstall and Short Leg gate tower) all at once. Once a week they used to have ghost tours (the area is home to many ghost sightings and stories) but not sure if they do it post-covid.

Restaurants inside didn't work unfortunately but the whole exposition was very nice and interesting.

Nice place to visit even if you are local. Clean inside, friendly stuff, quite interesting. Recomended

Worth a visit. Very long bastion passage and wide variety exhibition in the towers. Can get a bit creepy in the tunnels if you're doing it alone. :D

Intriguing museum with a rich history. Parts of the Bastian passages is a bit spooky, but definitely worth the experience! Be careful with the stairs, they can be slippery.

It was so much fun hiking up the tower and then wandering down through the lower passages! It took awhile so it was excellent exercise too, and I was a bit worn out at the end of the nearly two hours I spent here. They did a great job with the interesting and informational displays. This was one of the best highlights while in Tallinn so would definitely recommend it! I had a 24-hour Tallinn Pass and was in Tallinn on a 9-hour stopover on a Norwegian Getaway 9-day Baltic Cruise in August 2019. Rick Steves "Scandinavian & Northern European Cruise Ports" Guidebook was a great help and this sight was part of the self-guided "Tallinn Walk" in the book.

Cool museum showing the history of both the tunnels under the wall and the towers of the wall. Download the app recommended by the staff for an audio guide. Vaccination cards/certificates are requested by staff so have that information on hand
