The ruins of Rakvere Castle are magnificent, with well-restored fortress walls strong enough to withstand some climbing. However, be cautious during winter climbs as it can be slightly dangerous, and it's fully at your own responsibility Enjoyable exploration of multiple inner rooms reveals surprises. In the Hall of Swords, you can try realistic replicas spanning from the 10th to the 19th centuries. Ramified passages and galleries are well interconnected. The Alchemy Hall/room of science houses some interesting artifacts. Every few hours, fascinating excursions take place, such as visits to the torture chamber or the room of science, where you hear wonderful stories about the life, death, and beliefs of medieval European cities' populations. In the middle of the castle, a nice farmyard with sheep, goats, rabbits, geese, and even a wonderful donkey has been established. Nearby, there are informative tables discussing the relationship between the Brothel and expression of Love in the medieval population.-) Additionally, there's a very nice and atmospheric eating place where, for 3 euros, you can enjoy a warm and delightful glass of mulled wine.

One of the best guided tours I had. The guide was very knowledgeable, with good sense of humor. Expositions in the castle are very informative and interesting. We were here with a group of school kids of 11-12 y.o. and everyone really enjoyed the tour. :) Highly recommended :)

Suosittelen!

Excellent example of a mid evil castle. Excellent representation of the period with plenty to do and see for young and old visitors. There are some steep stairs and uneven grounds and cobblestone to navigate, but can be done if you go slowly. Well worth a visit if you are in Estonia.

Great experience!! It is a proper fort with live show of cannon being fired and different stations like archery, a sword room, torture chamber with a dark hell room! Overall a great experience for kids and adults alike. The gift shop also has cool gifts and wooden swords , axes and slings for children.

Absolutely stunning and breathtaking. The castle just has so much history attached to it and is truly quite the sight to see. If you are in Estonia definitely do not miss out on getting to see this place. It's located in Rakvere and It is open until 4pm and you can go inside and walk around. As well the town itself is also be beautiful and had a great atmosphere.

This is an interesting place worth visiting to plunge into the Middle Ages. Chickens and rabbits run around the yard. Soldiers are on duty. It was very knowledgeable to hear about the justice system in the Middle Ages. The torture chamber makes you wonder why such cruelty was needed. In the basement, there is a "room of fear" attraction called "Hell," so if you go down there, try to find your way up, or you will be trapped there forever 👻👣🙀😆

There is an ability to buy a tickets and go inside the castle to see see some entertainments - exibitions (swords, barber and healer's room, history room, etc.), activities (sword figths, shooting, etc.), workshops (carpenter's workshop, Clay workshop, etc). Easy to get around (even with kids) and lots of stuff to do with the price of the ticket. Wraps at the shop were superb.

Hieno linna, jossa historiallista nähtävää. Ahtaitkin portaita ja käytäviä, ei ahtaanpaikankammoiselle.

Very interesting to visit. Helpful guides tell about the history. Also possible to grab medieval food and drink. Possibilities to shoot at the archery range, visit torture chamber, apothecary and more. Place is family friendly and interractions can be found for everyone. At summer is also possible to attend events such as demonstration of medieval battle

We spent 3(!) action-packed amazing hours at Rakvere Castle, complete with medieval experiences - from cannon being shot to swordfights to trying our hand at archery & enjoying a practical lecture in alchemy. There was a handicrafts spot where kids & grownups alike can try pottery & candle-making as well as making their own coin in the smithy. In terms of food - there is a lovely cafe with a simple, affordable & tasty range of 1 soup-main-dessert. There were also stationery horses with pulleys for kids, a challenge track with swinging pillows, a giant chess board & opportunity to roam the whole castle & wall passages. Recommended to visit with kids - family ticket 22€ & all inside activities are included. Some announcements can be very loud & startle smaller visitors, but the cannon shot wasn’t as bad as the humorous warnings by the guards. Ended up buying 2 wooden swords on our way out (good prices and varying stages of ready-made) - the souvenir shop/ticket office was awesome. Staff are very welcoming & we enjoyed our experience very much - if I could give it 6 🌟, I would. Thank you!♥️

Great for children, mediocre for adults. Great show every hour for couple of minutes with people dressed up fighting with swords or firing a canon. Not as much exhibits as in other places, but you're allowed to touch almost everything. Firing a bow is included in price, pottery making (seems like they are interested in showing anything only to kids). There are animals and horse riding (not sure if horse ride is additional cost).

Refreshing. Cooling wind. Room for hand dance. Harmony in long grass in July. Architecture to feel part of greater human endeavours. Valleys for self-discovery. Inspiration for artistic interpretation. Great for couples to walk and talk.

The ruins of the castle are impressive. I can imagine what was here during the heyday of the castle. In the castle there is an operating cafe where you can eat and relax. Many places and performances for children. Parents will not be bored either. A family ticket costs 14 €.

This was a fantastic way to spend the day learning more about the town of Rakvere. The castle is awesome to check out and they have a ton of activities to see and do - live animals, archery, various educational shows, and even a trip through hell (if you dare!) The food at the castle is delicious too. I highly recommend the cider.

If you have interest in history and museum stuff then it's worth to go inside. Even though if you don't have interest in history still you can walk around the castle, it has some breathtaking views of the city and a pleasent cool breeze to enjoy. 🏰

Very nice place to go. Enjoyed it a lot. Went with a tour group from NCL Dawn. Had lunch there and was also good. Only negative is if you have trouble with steps. The castle is on a hill with about 100 steps to go up.

👍👍 Good place to see Estonian police history! I visited this place with my 7yo boy and he was really pleased. Maybe try to get some tour instead of going alone to discover.

👍👍 A very nice museum for those who are interested in the furnishings and lifestyle of the late 19th and first half of the 20th century. Katrin, the hostess of the museum, can tell you a lot about this house and about Rakvere in general. Furniture, wallpapers, clothes, tableware and much more are taste...
