Indoor lodging

😠 When I first arrived and stood in the corridor of Sakala hostel I thought to myself “where did my life go so terribly wrong?”. Moments later the hatchet faced landlady who seemed to have collected all STD’s on her face and neck showed me and my friends the room, the bed had of vomit, urine and blood... People often mention room, hostel, stay,

extremely bad, do not use it ever. you cannot be sure is your reservation still ongoing. For example, I was informed 5 hrs earlier if I will not contact them then my reservation is cancelled. Unfortunately I was in plane and I read it later. I strongly believe that they had another customer and they left me on the streets :(

The location is really good, it is close to the old town. Beds are comfortable, rooms are good, but restrooms are small and smelly. The kitchen is upstairs, and you can prepare something.

The place is more like a slum than a hostel. Every corner of the place was rented to someone, including two sofas, one in the stairways, and every afternoon a lady would come back to stay there (photo). It was unbelievable. There was a room next to my "room" that I had to pass through to reach to my place, and in that room, four two-story bed were stuffed, back to back, to be rented to 8 people, yet actually 10 people were sleeping there (two on some beds!) When I would wake up in the morning to pass across that room, it was not even possible to breathe there. My own "room" ain't better: just a bed, with cheapest mattress, worn off and springs striking out, and a 100-year-old pillow, perhaps one of the first Ikea products (see the photo). There is a bar below and one next to the place, and drunk people walk and shout in the street until 6AM, and a large construction project next door, operating even during weekends, so you cannot even think about sleeping there. The house terribly smells mold in every corner. In North America, such a place will be closed immediately due to serious health issues. I could see black molds in some places.Staying in this place was THE MOST HORRIFIC stay ever and I believe this place is a disrespect to the concept of hostel.

A fantastic museum of mold and various bodily fluids. The urine soaked bed collection was impressive. They also let museum visitors sleep there for a small price.

Worst place I’ve ever been. Price was ok, but room was small for two people and beds and sheets were really uncomfortable. Thank you for the pain in my neck. Only good thing was shower flow. After I tried to use hair dryer, the power was limited. The staff didn’t speak proper Estonian, eventhough we live in Estonia! When i made my reservation changes by phone, i had to speak Russian instead of Estonian. Make your workers proper Estonian language courses, because this is ESTONIA not RUSSIA!!!!! Never coming back!

Positives: Fairly clean hostel with sufficient bathrooms. Bed linen is free. Free tea and coffee (but no milk) located ~ 15 minutes' walk from old town. Building is nice, with high ceilings, which is good for bunk beds. Negatives: Hostel is very crowded with strange corridors. We'd probably all die if there was a fire. Not enough sockets for charging electronics. No space to put bags (had to sleep with bags in the bed) Trash bags lying around in bedrooms. Whole building smells of damp and the lock system sometimes malfunctions.

AVOID. Rooms are Dirtier than the landlady’s knickers! My words will do no justice of just how disgusting this place is. 2 nights in a concentration camp would have been more pleasant and the beds would have had less diseases. The live in Manager/Landlady is like a female Hitler. Waking up to look at her car crash of a face 2 mornings in a row only made me feel worse about my whole experience. They advertise this place as a hostel yet if you breathe after 10pm in the communal area, said female Hitler storms out of her room and waves her bingo wings around at you. Morale of the story is stay in school & work a bit harder so you never have to stay in a place like this!

There is no reception in the building, so when we arrived we had to wait for 2 hours for the landlady to open the door for us. The room we stayed in was in the loft, so the ceilings were very very low. The only place where I could stand up was at the room door. The window is kind of broken and doesn't stay open. And there is no curtains, so we had to cover the window at night with some cardboard. And there is just one shower room for the whole top floor. But it isn't too bad in terms of location.

Rooms are ok, if you are very tall some of them might be tricky to enjoy, as they are under the roof, so on one side is normal height, in the other side be careful when you wake up! Service is basic. Location is great!

If you are American or from the Western world, don't come here. You'll get rude treatment in an old building. However, if you want to save a few bucks, by all means come enjoy the Soviet-style welcoming. There is no kitchen.

When I first arrived and stood in the corridor of Sakala hostel I thought to myself “where did my life go so terribly wrong?”. Moments later the hatchet faced landlady who seemed to have collected all STD’s on her face and neck showed me and my friends the room, the bed had of vomit, urine and blood for the ultimate cocktail of body residue for me to sleep in. But the most shocking thing about this hostel is it isn’t a hostel, all the other people staying there were homeless or had been kicked out by the misses. So if your travelling and want to have fun, have some type of standard regarding hygiene and don’t want to look at a plaster faced old hag then just don’t! Also don’t stand on the balcony.
