Very cool museum- really impressive collection of old letterpress machines and other equipment, that works! Choice of different old fonts used in newspapers- for example astrological or chess! Last one reminded old soviet times with chess exercises on the last page. You can try paper making or postcard pressing or some other workshops 👍♟📨

You may make your own paper and print it too. Very good English guide showing the whole process in hands-on way. Great to visit with whole family.

Interesting and quite large museum about printing history. You can see impressive amount of printing and bookmaking machinery. Museum visitors get guided tour for the ticket, where full process of printing is explained from paper making till book binding. Also all printing and binding mashinery are explained during the tour. You get to see the machines from really clouse. The tour lasts about an hour. Museum offeres several cool printing workshops. For most workshops you need to preorder by contacting Typa museum. The workshops are for various skill level, from pre-school till grownups. Museum has little cute souvenir shop at front desk. You can buy printed poducts and some candy there mainly.

Interesting way of visiting a museum, as the ticket includes an excursion with interesting explanations of printing and paper history. Another interesting thing is that many of the machines from the exhibition still work and the staff gives opportunity to make your own postcards and paper. And also the local caretaker-cat Ruby, he is just amazing. The best museum experience lately. Excursions in estonian and english. Shortly: interactive museum with free tours, 100% recommended for locals and tourists.

What a fantastic museum! Yes, it might sound narrow, but it might be one of the most unique museum experiences I have had. The ticket includes a guides tour and the guides are excellent and have hands on experience.

A place to visit for sure if you are interested in books and printing, or you have kids along. Access is ONLY granted with a guide who tells about how to make paper, how the printing developed and how the books are put together.

Absolutely fascinating tour into the world of letterpresses and paper making! Personnel passion to the subject really shows and they were super friendly. They only give guided tours and for a good reason: machinery is fully functional and they give live demos of those. You get to make your own paper and press your very own postcard. Kids (7 and 5 year old) were absolutely mesmerized by everything. Absolutely recommend this for everyone!

Very recommend museum to visit. Does not matter adult or child. You will have guided tour. During the tour you will learn a lot of very interesting information, do with your hands some things. Later if you want can do some master classes.

I got a private tour around the museum and learned a lot about the development of printing machines over time and could use an old Gutenberg-style printing press to make a post card to take home. The guide was very knowledgeable and patiently answered all of my questions. Also, there was a small art exhibition that was included in the ticket. Overall a great experience!

This was my "must see" of the day. The staff gave me a tour of the museum, accompanied by one of their resident artists. She shared the history of paper, from papyrus to recycled paper and then gave me then hands on opportunity to make a sheet. The paper portion of the tour also showed some examples of how paper is used for art. The printing portion of the tour traced the history from hand-rolling ink to hand-operated and then powered printing machines. All of the machines are still used - in part to keep them operating and in part to keep traditions alive.

This was a nice surprise and I recommend this museum, if you have 1h to spare in Tartu. It's located near the "hipster centrum" - Aparaaditehas - in Tartu and at first glance, it's more like a small workshop. I initially felt that the 8EUR adult ticket for a small museum would be too expensive. But - turns out this is not a museum where you look at things, but a hands-on museum. A lovely lady named Mirjam gave my wife and me a 40min private tour - we got to make a sheet of paper, try a printing press and actually touch most of the machines in the workshop. I really liked the passion and enthusiasm of the people who are trying to do old-school printwork in this museum.

Nice little museum, suitable not only for people passionate about printing and paper, but also for complete newbies to the issue. The guide was passionate and probably the nicest one I've ever seen, as is often the case in little museums.

Lovely and highly recommended. Marko, our guide, was very welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. My previous knowledge of paper and printing was extremely limited, so I was really interested in everything he had to say and show. The museum is very much hands-on (not your usual 'do-not-touch' exhibits!). A MUST visit when in Tartu! Also: dog friendly :)

A superb, unexpected and one of a kind experience. We learned a lot about paper making, print making and typography. We got a private tour for ourselves and even had the chance to make paper and a personalized postcard. I highly recommend this museum for anyone curious and open to learning new things. This museum is definitely one of the hidden gems of Tartu. Merci encore!

(Translated by Google) A surprising and educational museum for both paper folders and those interested in the history of typographic machines. The museum can only be visited with a guide, but it is only an added value. (Original) Üllatav ja hariv muuseum nii paberivoltijale kui tüpograafiamasinate ajaloost huvitatule. (Translated by Google) Great museum! The ticket includes a tour. With a guided tour of course more interesting. The guide girl told and showed how to make paper, together we made prints of pictures on the old press and discussed the difficulties of the Russian and Estonian languages. Many thanks! (Original) Прекрасный музей! В билет входит экскурсия. С экскурсией конечно же интереснее. 😐 It's a regular waterpark. It has three tube slides, a child area, sports pool, saunas and a cash/card bar. It was made a long time ago and shows it in it's design making it feel more dilapidated than it actually is.
