Visited for the first time this week - so impressed. Received a very warm, genuine welcome to the restaurant, which is well presented and spotlessly clean. The menu was explained and questions about the cuisine, which we hadn't tried before, answered. The food itself was delicious and good value. I think it's important to point out that we're all meat eaters but can honestly say that we would 100% recommend this place and can't wait to go back! Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Had an early dinner there, and was delighted with the service and the food. All of the menu is vegan and gluten free. For starters I had a delicious tomato salad. For the main I had the potato and spinach salad - this was lighltly spiced and accompanied by cornbread, toff bread and a pulse dip. For a cool drink I had the flax (nicely nutty in flavour). The cost of the meal was £27, a main would easily fill me up if I wasn't too hungry. The restaurant is spotless and really tastefully decorated. The staff are really friendly and helpful.

Those who don’t do vegetarian restaurants or even vegan cuisine, prepare to have your expectations turned around. The food is outstanding. It’s delicious, and nutritious and served by a wonderful host. Honestly, neither of us are veggies, but we love this place as something a bit different. Highly recommend the coffee at the end of the meal.

Wonderful vegetarian restaurant with gorgeous food.... and that's from a confirmed meat eater! Mushroom cooked with garlic and assorted spices, with a 'salad' and the 2 types of bread. 2nd visit here and always made to feel fully welcome by the owner Asamnew. Fully recommended to anyone.

I'm so glad I went. The atmosphere was wonderful even on a quiet night, and the manager paid special attention to us as new customers, explaining what the food was and encouraging us to try wonderful new things. We had the sharing platter for two so we could try everything, and the coffee which was excellent. Will definitely go again.

An incredible night. Abyissian food has so many unique spices and flavours that you can't find anywhere else. Top this off with the comfortingly warm atmosphere of the restaurant itself and you have yourself the recipe for a perfect trip into town. A must-visit for anyone interested in expanding their tastes to something truly unique.

Ate Abyssinian food in Corarima in Wakefield last night. Washed it down with telba (flaxseed drink) and their just roasted coffee. The thought of it all is still making me happy. And it was 100% vegan. One diner had travelled from London just to eat there. It was totally worth it she said. My kids loved it too. Who wouldn't? Beautiful, delicious hard to find flavours. Delightful, relaxing atmosphere. Charming, welcoming host. Try it, you'll never have experienced anything like it.

Best vegan restaurant by far I’ve visited many vegan restaurants and always leave feeling underwhelmed, but not this one. The food is simply out of this world, the flavours are exciting and exotic. The portions are perfect too and you feel comfortably full and satisfied. The service is definitely 5 star and all the info you get with your order like the history, the inspiration is a wonderful addition. The food is beautifully presented Have already booked to return

Amazing experience today in this lovely restaurant in Wakefield today. The Menu is very big and all plant based. It was the first time we went today with a friend and my husband and we decided to let the chef surprises us with a Combo mixed plate. Never better decision!! We got a huge sharing plate full of pulses and veggies: everything was absolutely delicious!! The owner was extremely polite and friendly and he explained with care and passion every single dishes. We will definitely come back to this restaurant and we strongly recommend it. Fabulous experience. Thank you

Exploring the outskirts of Leeds led me to discover the gem that is Corarima, a gluten-free, vegan haven in Wakefield. As someone currently navigating a gluten-free journey, stumbling upon this Abyssinian vegan/gluten free restaurant was a true delight. Opting for the combination platter for two was a journey through a sensory layer cake - a symphony of tastes and smells expertly presented. We embraced the experience, relishing the deliciousness with our hands, a practice met with the owner's delighted approval. The host, a charming and attentive soul, took us on a culinary tour, passionately detailing each dish. He was so warm, Friendly and attentive - without being over-bearing. The decor added to the warmth, creating a homely ambiance that made this dining experience extraordinary. In the realm of UK dining, Corarima has secured its spot among our favorites. It's more than a restaurant; it's a rare and complete experience, a testament to the charm and authenticity of Abyssinian cuisine. I wish we lived closer as we’d visit regularly for sure!

Enriching, nourishing, energising. An absolute gem of a restaurant. A beautifully designed space feels relaxing and spacious. The gentleman in charge is unhurried and personable, he gave us just the right amount of attention. A real professional with a touch of class. The food is just amazing, flavours, textures, presentation. We had the vegan sharing platter and couldn't get over how satisfied we felt in the absence of meat. We will definitely be back and highly recommend.

Went for lunch, the restaurant has a very homely atmosphere, the owner/waiter was friendly and welcoming. If you aren't familiar with Ethiopian food just dive in, everything we ate was delicious. Having a sharing plate with 12+ different dishes and injera was fantastic in taste and appearance. Overall if you're looking for the best place to eat in Wakefield, it just might be Corarima.

What a brilliant place. The owners are really nice friendly people and the place is spotlessly clean. This is genuine Ethiopian food made with authentic ingredients and huge attention to detail. The presentation of the food is carefully thought through, as is everything about the place. Best of all, everything is Vegan, which is welcome news. Don't worry if you're not vegan. The food is substantial and very tasty. Give this place a go. You will love it.

Absolutely amazing experience. Corarima is my favorite place in Wakefield. Small family run restaurant, Sam the owner is such a lovely person. The food is excellent, vegan and attentive to the ingredients. Bread is made with Teff cereal which is a rarity. Definitively my choice in Wakefield.

Can't recommend this place highly enough, the food and service were brilliant. I was unsure about going to a veggie restaurant but the food surpassed all expectations, we had the combination platter and I enjoyed every dish. The service was perfect, relaxed but not slow, warm and friendly, with a real pride in the food and an eagerness to ensure you are enjoying everything. Make sure you have coffee after dinner, it is possibly the best coffee I have ever tried. I am not local but really want to go back!

Delicious, authentic food, and such a warm welcome Update: we had a takeaway, and it was as delicious as I remember, the n'jera really fresh, everything delicious. Very glad they're open again for dining after lockdown.

We have had Corarima takeout almost every week since lockdown began because we love it so much. I don't know how we hadn't found out about the restaurant before December 2019 but since then we have been many times, with plans to take lots of friends and family put on hold due to Covid-19. Asamnew and his family are generous and kind hosts and make their guests feel welcome and at home with their warmth and the beautiful food.

Best restaurant in Wakefield by far. The food is fresh, delicious and it is something I couldn't cook for myself at home, unlike most Italian/Asian restaurants. The owner is lovely, always kind and sunny, and the restaurant is a family business, so although it may seem a little pricey it is definitely worth it. I have been back a half dozen times and always, always enjoy it immensely. I took my mum, who is really against trying new things, and even she loved it once she started eating. She couldn't believe how tasty each dish was and how distinct, even though the dishes can look similar. Give it a go, you won't regret it!

An absolute treat to experience. If you are visiting Wakefield be sure to add a stop at Corarima to your plans. The Sambusa and Kategna starters were a delight - lovely spice combinations - and the Combination Dishes ensure you get to taste all the staples on the menu. Don't forget to try the Abyssinian Coffee; blended and roasted at the restaurant (really fruity tasting!) A wonderful way to end a delicious meal, with the most welcoming hosts!

  • 5/5 Steve H. 4 years ago on Google
My wife is Celiac (has to be Gluten Free) and doesn't eat meat. Everything on this menu apart from one drink and one starter is gluten free, and it is all vegetarian, so for once my wife was able to select from a full menu. The remainder of the four of us were meat eaters and no special dietary requirements. All of us thought the food (and drink) options were delicious, fresh and unusual. It was all freshly prepared to order by the owners. The ambience is more like a posh lunch time cafe rather than a dinner time venue, but we very much enjoyed our evening dinner there. They do NOT serve alcahol, but you can take your own if you like (although I suggest you try one of their home made local drinks). The restaurant has seating for perhaps 25 to 30 people and is run by a family.

Absolutely wonderful! Delicious, original vegetarian/vegan food, in hearty portions but at reasonable prices. Stepping in feels like you’re entering a family home, a genuine expression of Ethiopia. It’s warm, inviting and the owners make you feel very welcome. Honestly stunned to find a place like this in Wakefield, such well made food from such a honest cultural background. Amazing. Some of the best vegetarian/vegan food I’ve had in the UK. Can’t wait to come back!

A unique restaurant which serves Abyssinian cuisine. More than anything, it was curiosity that drew us here. A small and cozy restaurant with ample free parking in the vicinity. We booked in advance. The host is extremely polite and gives you a good introduction to his style of food. I found this lovely restaurant unpretentious and sticks to what it says. No alcohol is served here. Vegan food and plenty of gluten free options. We had the combination meal for 2 which more or less serves everything on the menu. Overall, a welcome change and we left feeling healthy. Highly recommended+++

Awesome Ethiopian place -not something you expect to find in Wakefield. Very friendly owner guided our choices from the menu and chatted to us about the food and traditions of his country. Amazing experience. I shared a platter which was a great way to try different dishes, all with delicious injeera bread. We particularly liked the flax dish. We finished up with the traditional coffee which is roasted and ground in the restaurant. Would definitely recommend. Worth a trip to Wakefield if you're nearby just to try it.

Great food and great service. Me and my wife wanted to try something different for date day, with us both being vegetarian this restaurant was recommended. We have never tried Ethiopian food but we were greatly impressed with the flavours and presentation. We chose the sharing combination dish (basically a big plate of a bit of everything from the menu) and enjoyed everything. I never expected my favourite dish to be the flaxseed stew. As a side note, Ethiopian food really should be on every high street alongside Italian and Indian food.

Truly unique and unlike anything else in Wakefield. An exclusively vegetarian and vegan menu featuring a wide variety of authentic Abyssinian flavours and textures. Friendly, attentive and passionate service to match. Make sure to try the Telba drink – it’s like drinking a digestive biscuit! The coffee is also fantastic.

This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and it was incredible! The owner was super friendly, helpful, informative and you could tell he had a real passion for what he was creating. Would 100% recommend this restaurant, the food was delicious, plentiful, wholesome and plant based. It's a shame we live so far away as this would be my go-to restaurant. Also, try the telba!

What an absolutely delicious meal we had! The welcome was warm, the food delicious, an all round tremendous experience - will definitely be returning, and have already recommended to several friends. I would highly recommend the combo platter as a delicious introduction to Abyssinian cuisine - rich, smoky, beautifully spiced and balanced. I'm hooked. Also highly recommend the iced coffee. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!

This is a gem definitely my favourite restaurant so far! My wife is Ethiopian and booked for us to go as we are trying to tour every Ethiopian restaurant we can find. From the entrance, I knew it was going to be a special night. The attention to detail in the decor, furnishings, and arrangement was inspirational Our host was friendly and polite and gave us all the information we needed and some cool history behind the restaurant. Being a small restaurant, the fact that it sits no more than 30 people makes it cosy and inviting. We had the Telba drink, and ordered the Sambusa as a starter. I loved the texture of the telba drink! The parsley sauce on top of it was sublime! For our mains, we had the Combination Dish For Two which was the right choice as we got to sample a wide selection of what is on offer. I highly recommend this for your first visit. We finished off with the coffee and popcorn in our own mini-Ethiopian coffee ceremony At the end of the night, my wife and I heartily agreed that we would come back more regularly to Corarima and sample the WHOLE menu! It's that good.

Four of us went for dinner on Saturday evening . This small restaurant is run by a husband and wife team . He operates front of house and was a genial as well as informative host . The food is sensational. More subtle than other restaurants representing this region . No alcohol is served but you can BYO. It almost felt as if we had been invited into their home to share their hospitality. Only wish we lived closer so that we could visit more often.

As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted with one of the friendliest fellas i have ever met. After learning about the Abyssinian way and the delicious foods on the menu we ordered the Hummus and Chickpea bread to start and a Combination for 2 for Main. We were totally out of our comfort zone and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. Will be returning and 100% recommending. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

Great food, especially for vegans. Really good service. You can take your own alcohol for corkage fee. The stuffed chilli is so so spicy! Would love to go back again

Unbelievably good. So many flavours I had no idea existed and such a rare array of taste sensations. Oh and the host is fab - so kind and recommends things, tells you what each thing is and how you should eat it. Should you go? Absolutely. Will you like it? Absolutely.

Had an amazing meal at Corarima! Absolutely delicious food, packed with strong flavours. The host was very welcoming and talked us through the options and created a wonderful atmosphere. Will definitely go back again soon and recommend to everyone!

Absolutely loved this place! We ordered the Combination dish between 3 of us. Wide selection of little dishes, served with plenty of the injera bread!! Ordered the Beso (tasted like a piña colada!) and the mango smoothie, both really nice and the Beso had so much flavour to it! Host was lovely and welcoming, had stories and information about the culture, the food and the coffee! Coffee was perfect end to the meal, accompanied by popcorn and an anecdote about the origin of coffee Would love to go back soon!

Visited tonight and honestly cannot praise this place enough. Fantastic atmosphere, wonderful food. The flavours were amazing and the Sambusa is so delicious I could have happily eaten those all day. Recommend the Combo dish for first time visit. Can't wait to come again to try more. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Helpful host with a warm welcome. Good selection of savory food. Gluten free dishes excellent choice. Interesting flavours. The sharing dish was a great idea as a way to try many dishes. Delicious traditional drinks made by the chef in the restaurant kitchen.

A warm welcome as soon as we stepped in. Very friendly and attentive host who took time to explain the various dishes - as it was our first time here and we knew nothing! We chose to have starters and the combination share for two which gave us a good selection of the overall menu. Presentation was outstanding and flavours were wonderful. Service was excellent and very quick! We finished with Abyssinian coffee and popcorn - the coffee was strong but not bitter and very enjoyable end to the meal. The restaurant is small with tasteful decor and has a very relaxed feel. We will be visiting again very soon! Loved it.

Super experience! Not only the food is amazing, the service is outstanding and the place is just lovely. We really enjoyed our meal. Everything was super tasty and healthy, lots of vegetables and legumes. And of course, lots of their special bread. We even tried some of the cold drinks and they were really good, something like oat milk, but tastier. We will come back very soon, what an amazing place!

This was something completely different, that we'd never even thought of. We were bought a gift voucher, so we went along, and we was not disappointed. The food and drink is absolutely spectacular, and the service and speed of the chef if second to none ! We have already booked to go again. The combination of spice and flavours are amazing. Well done to everyone we can't thank you enough 👏

Corarima in Wakefield exceeded expectations with its inviting atmosphere, marked by a cosy ambiance. The very friendly host added a personal touch to the dining experience. The restaurant's great African decorations further enhanced the cultural vibe, creating a memorable setting for savoring their delicious Ethiopian and Eritrean-inspired cuisine. A delightful blend of warmth, hospitality, and flavorful dishes makes Corarima a standout choice.

An absolute gem of an evening. The food was beautifully presented and rich with flavour. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and the host couldn’t have been friendlier and was more than happy to talk to us about the various dishes. We will certainly be returning and spreading the word to friends.

😠 Poor uncared-for motorway services. Very poor road directional signage on site. I drove past the narrow turning into the car park, inadvertently ended up at the petrol station. When finally going into the main building... I open the first of two doors into the toilets, and I was instantly hit with...
