Very nice and calm place to visit. Dam could be climbed by stairs, though preferred it on the way down

Simply majestic dam, and offers wonderful view of nearby towns. Use the elevator to travel down to the dam base. Plenty of free parking space. You could visit here after a quick trip at Hashidate Limestone Cave.

Nice vista point from a gigantic dam in Chichibu area. Quiet and peaceful, with a touch of birds twittering sounds.

Big Dam and Deep View of Nearest Prefectures and Mountains

Urayama Dam NOTE: there is parking at the TOP of the dam area as well as a parking lot at the bottom. If facing the dam from the bottom the driveway to the lower parking is on the right. Our GPS told us the left and the gate was closed, luckily we drove a little more and found the right side drive. The upper parking looks ample as well. Getting there we thought it was going to be a let down as our car was the only car there. We entered the tunnel area which also looked empty to an elevator room. We went up and we’re shocked. The view is AMAZING. Granted we went on a less then perfect day but still amazing. The water is a bright turquoise the mountains around lush and green and the panoramic view of Chichibu is perfect. I walked from one end to another. At the entrance (upper) there is a soba and udon stand or restaurant. It looked like the dishes were about ¥500 which is a steal. ($3.75). Bathrooms were clean and there were also vending machine options if thirsty. I highly recommend visiting this place. Yes it’s a dam a wall blocking water but the views change that, I promise. I just wish it was a sunny day when we went, maybe next time

The dam is beautiful and well thought out. There is an elevator within that takes you to the area above the dam. There is also a museum-type space which gives a history of the area and the process by which the dam was made. There are multiple entrances to the dam.

Decent view, long staircase from bottom of this dam for free, nice wind, clean air, less tourists.

Very cool dam, just wish they had English directions, it's a bit hard to find.
