飯玉神社なら那波氏(上野国那波郡)との関係を考えますが、群馬郡にあたるここ倉賀野の飯玉神社からは那波氏の名前は出てきません。
そのことを中世から近世への当社の変遷で考察すると、
建長5年(1253)倉賀野氏の始祖倉賀野三郎高俊が社殿を造営。以後、倉賀野氏の氏神として社殿の建替、修復が繰り返された。倉賀野氏は武蔵七党とよばれる武士団の一つ児玉党の余流で、烏川北崖上に要衝・倉賀野城を構えた。
至徳3年(1386)倉賀野三郎左衛門尉盛勝社殿建立、長禄2(1458)倉賀野三河守行政社殿建立、永禄2年(1559)金井淡路守社殿修復。
