Fun atmosphere. I tried the El Rey burrito because of the uniqueness of it, and it was delicious. We also enjoyed the cantina nachos and street corner tacos. Yuuum. The only thing that could be better is making the restaurant a little more kid friendly. They don’t have a kids menu, and my 2 year old was given her water in a glass. There was also hardly any room for our stroller where we sat. BUT overall, the experience was great.

We were a group of 6 people and we were looking for a Mexican restaurant for Saturday night dinner. We searched near us and by seeing the reviews we decided to have dinner at Urban Cantina. It is a small restaurant in Tampa downtown with a nice decor. When we went to the restaurant it was full being a Saturday night and we had to wait for 10-15 minutes before we were seated. Once seated we were greeted by our server Meztly with the menus. By exploring the drinks menu first we decided to order Mezcalita, Classic Margarita and La Tina. We got our drinks in 10 minutes. All the 3 drinks that we ordered were amazing and it made our day as they have open bar and provides different drinks. Then we ordered the food from the food menu which included the combination of tacos, Cantina Nachos, Street Corn, Cantina Bowl, Tostada Salad and Churros. First we got Street Corn. The street corn was delicious and it was perfectly cooked with good amount of spices. Then we got our Tacos. The Tacos were good and perfectly cooked with the ingredients. Then we had our Cantina Nachos, Cantina Bowl and Tostada Salad. The Nachos were good. The salad was also delicious with fresh ingredients and spice. The Cantina Bowl was delicious with amazing ingredients. Then we got our Nachos which made our day with the desert. Amazing desert to end the day. Definitely try the Urban Cantina in the downtown of Tampa.

My favorite margs and chips and salsa, but you can’t go wrong with any of the menu items! My steak bowl was cooked to perfection! The steak was nice and seasoned and not dry and thirsty like most places. I ordered the street corner tacos i believe that what its called 🤗.. Its the 5 different tacos. They were delicious we both had that. The only disappointment was the soda is not fountain drinks, they give you cans.

Wow, best tacos ever!! You could mix and match 3. They even had chicken in mole rojo. The ceviche was fresh and delicious. The margaritas were made with fresh lime and potent. It was a little loud inside but that was the tequila and large tables talking.

Came here with a large group of adults and kids and the service was fantastic. It’s not easy catering to a crowd. The food was standard Mexican 1 tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc but all were prepared well and yummy. The tacos were excellent - esp the mushroom tacos. The nachos were crispy and gooey from the loaded toppings. The plantains were soft and sweet. The churros were a hit. All the food was reasonably priced and came out quick. Def a good spot to go to for a casual get together

Service was good. The food taste was very plain. Points because they stay open until 10 and is one of the few places in downtown Tampa open at that time.

As a vegetarian guy I really loved it at the Urban Cantina. Very ground food. Not super fancy nut honest and healthy. Thanks for that good food.

My husband and I drove in to Tampa for a concert with zero plans for a restaurant. We randomly parked and saw Urbana Cantina and decided to try it. We didn’t even check reviews or any information. I am so glad we were spontaneous about it! The moment the chips arrived at the table, I knew it would be an amazing meal. I had the cantina bowl and my husband had a quesadilla. The flavors were spot on, delicious and not overpowering. I will 100% drive in to Tampa to eat here again. We also lucked out with Kay, our server! She was on it! I liked the vibe in the restaurant, the prompt and reliable service and the food was, honestly, the best Mexican I’ve had. And I am a HUGE Mexican food fan and have done several reviews of very decent restaurants. This one just takes the gold on deliciousness! Thanks, Kay and Urban Cantina. We will be back!

Really nice spot downtown by the University - probably the cheapest place with the best quality. The service is sparse at times, but the kitchen is really fast, which is all that matters if they make great food. Good prices, decent portions.. a definite stop when you are not looking to drop $30 a head, but still have good food.

I hadn't eaten breakfast. It was 4pm and I was hungry. There is a Spanish saying. "Todo con hambre es Bueno" Meaning with hunger everything taste good. I was hungry and this had no taste. I ordered three tacos for $13. Carne asada, al pastor, and a Fish taco. You can only taste the pineapple in the al pastor, asada no flavor. I was pleased to bite into the fish taco. The only good thing on my plate. you have to pay $3.50 for rice and beans. Not even a full spoon of rice. But when I tell you that, the rice had absolutely no flavor. It's unbelievable, I mean no flavor!! The beans as well. Service was quick, professional and friendly. The place is clean and great atmosphere. If you're going to eat here, I highly recommend the fish tacos.

Absolutely delicious. Customer service is above and beyond. Barbacoa melted in my mouth! Uber Eats dropped the bag with my order and they made sure things were right. Beyond that, the food is genuinely guaranteed to be better than you can anticipate. Go check them out! They deserve your business.

This place used to be good. Now they just hire unfriendly bartenders who seem put out that you dared show up and order food. The portions are small and not worth the price.

Best spot in downtown Tampa for a quick taco lunch. Authentic, not super Expensive, GREAT frozen margs, cool atmosphere & easily the coolest bar stools in town. This place is always on point and a once a week lunch spot for me 👍

We stumbled upon this place looking for another restaurant we couldn't find. We were pleasantly surprised. We really enjoyed the food. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was welcoming. Don't sleep on this place.

Food has greatly declined. Last few visits the chicken dishes have no flavor. Tastes like frozen processed chicken. They still refuse to provide drinks but for canned sodas for which they charge each at high prices. And they wonder why business has slowed. The servers are very good. Plus, some have felt not great after lunch. Use to visit frequently for weekday lunches. Not so now. They need makeover and fast.

So glad this place was recommended by one of the Hilton staff, because I would not have considered it otherwise. The shrimp ceviche was delicious and with the perfect amount of citrus, that most ceviches often lack, especially those within the US. I personally would have added a bit more jalapeno, but I acknowledge that I prefer more spice than most. The tortilla chips were thick and crispy and perfect for a ceviche, not the thin kind that easily breaks into pieces. I tried a trio of street tacos.... fish, al pastor and carne asada. The carne was so tender and flavorful but the fish was outstanding. I could easily choose all fish next time. The tacos were served with a wonderful fiery salsa that had some real heat and a great depth of flavor. The icing on the cake was the ice cold sprite in a glass bottle. Sodas and glass bottles are so underrated these days. They truly are special and a blast from the past that take me back to my childhood. For some reason, the drinks taste so much better from a glass bottle. I wish I had room to try the freshly made churros, but I was absolutely full. Definitely look forward to returning here.

We stopped here for some food and drinks before the Ne-yo concert. Food is AMAZING! The drinks are fresh and strong! The bartender Dani, is outstanding, friendly and made sure my food had no avocado (allergies). Food came out quickly and tasted great! We will definitely be back. Even if there is not a concert.. this is a spot to drop in and just have good food and drinks. Everything you would expect in a Catina! 👏

We have a group of seven but asked to sit separate and it looks like a Covid protocol🤔 we have chicken fajita, enchiladas and burritos. Food taste good and server was awesome. She asked to try Victoria beer and taste better than popular Mex beers. Unlimited Chip and salsa was good too. We will visit again 👍👍👍👍👎🏿

I came in at lunch time on a week day with 3 other adults and 2 kids. To start the atmosphere was off putting. It had loud club style music blaring so loudly we had to raise our voices to hear each other when talking. We almost left due to the atmosphere, but we had two hungry kids. When the food arrived we were so disappointed. The food was extremely bland. It had no seasoning. Not pepper and definitely not anything you would think of as Mexican seasoning. Or any seasoning at all. When we complain to the server we were told that recently the owner had changed food vendors and they had been getting complaints of the food being bland from other people. She said that the owner was not in the building right now so the best she could do for us is give us 10% off.

Excellent drinks. La Tine is a perfect mix of smoke, spice, and Mezcal. The food and atmosphere are also wonderful. Definitely recommend. Will visit again.

Worst experience for catering. I decided to book them for a corporate catering event I had. It took multiple follow up emails & calls just to get a response a week later. Horrible communication, I had to deal with 2 different people for catering which slowed the process. I have emails that were still NEVER answered up until the event for an almost $800 order. I called the day of the event to confirm it was a delivery since they never updated this on the invoice and had it as a morning pickup even though I pointed this out and asked them to change it- whoever answered the phone told me they don’t do delivery. At this point I’m nervous it’s even going to happen day of the event. Another person called me back to confirm, again the communication was terrible. The only positive to come out of all of the chaos was the delivery guys were fantastic in helping setup and everyone enjoyed the food. Unfortunately I won’t be booking another catering order through them.

Great food; not your typical Mexican taco joint. The dishes and combinations are creative, flavorful, and sizeable. A bit loud when the place is full; they could use some acoustical treatment on the ceilings and walls (could be added easily, cost-effectively, and fitting with the decore/theme). Spicy sauce had a bit of a kick ( not too strong) and was very flavorful. Definitely on the list to come back.

Thanks bartender for suggesting great drinks! The salsa is really good and I say this being from New Mexico where salsa is king. Cute atmosphere and the bar has a good view of the street to people watch.

This little gem is hidden in down town Tampa. The food and services was excellent. The only complaint that I have it that it's really small if you want to sit inside. They do have a take out section. Other than that I really enjoyed eating there.

Horrible service. They give us the worse table with a restaurant that was half empty. When I asked the hostess why she said it was because they had their servers line up and that was the table I was going to ear, really? I said that was insane with that many available table and she call her manager. This new person give me a different reason why I cannot have the table I wanted, she said that they needed the extra table in case a large party decided to dine in the restaurant, really? I asked them if they were expecting a large group, she said no, but still they were going to leave the table open in case a large group decided to show up an hour before they close. Needless to say we walk away from that horrible place and went eating to another restaurant down the street. With better service.

It all started out as a great experience but turned south quickly. Food was quick but cold and far from good, which I could deal with, The original server was great but when busy asking other workers for hot sauce I guess was too much as it was an aggressive situation and definitely not helpful and took away from the full experience. I would avoid this place. The Hilton recommended this and definitely a no go…. So many other places.

The service was fast and attentive, I do give the server props to that, especially since it was very busy. These tacos just tasted mediocre. Single tortilla and I think maybe a bit of seasoning was missing for a kick. Rice and beans were also okay. The meat was a bit skimped on and not close to a real Mexican taco. It's its own thing but seems like people like it based on the reviews.

Amazing place. The food was prepared correctly and great taste. The place is small but it has a nice bar that you can sit outside facing inward of the restaurant. Great place for food and/or drinks.

  • 3/5 Mike B. 1 year ago on Google
Food was pretty good. Only had one bartender and one wait person looking after a full dining room and full bar. I guess it's hard to find staff these days but i really should have just ordered my meal for pickup. Probably would try other places before ever coming back.

This place was okay. Im conflicted on if i should give 3 or 4 stars. The atmosphere is great, the drinks were strong, the staff was helpful. But the food was bland. I would never expect to get bland food from a Mexican restaurant they seemed to use hardly any seasoning or spice. We tried the flautas, street corn, tacos (shrimp, pastor, and fish) and they were all bland. The only good thing was the quesadilla, Not sure if i went on a bad day but i sadly wouldn’t return. If your coming for drinks with friends this is a good spot but if your hungry go ahead and skip this place.

Went here on a Saturday afternoon and had a short wait, but the wait can get long during peak hours. We got the house margarita which was a bit disappointing as it tasted like it was made with store-bought margarita mix, and was too cloying for my taste. I got El Rey burrito which was just okay. The staff was friendly and ambiance was nice. The food taste and quality was acceptable but could be better.

Finger licking good! Have been back numerous times since my first visit and haven't been let down. Nice environment and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for authentic Mexican food.

This place has been a favorite for years but they don’t consistently keep straws and kinda use an inconsistent reason for it. I would like to see consistency there… love the food and margaritas, the staff is excellent. Just bring some consistency to the standards we have come to expect w all dining out experiences. Do this and you have 5 stars. 🥤🍹🧃🧉🧋

Good flavored tacos! The location is a little small and crowded but the food is great. I tried a few things on this menu and everything was full of flavor. The Ceviche is really fresh and tasty, the tacos is yummy, the meat is good quality, none of that chewy stuff and the dessert is a must try! Of course I had the churro and ice cream. Tell them Michelle sent ya ! Enjoy

Food was absolutely hot, fresh, and delicious. Reasonably priced for being in business district of downtown Tampa. Was in town for a week and had lunch twice. The fajitas and chimichanga are outstanding. Order side salsa!
