Nice simple museum, not the best museum but I learned a lot from the small exhibition. I probably will return when they rotate the displays and art!

I recommend visiting this museum on a day when you can get a discount or come in free. Bank of America card holders can get in free the first weekend of the month. The particular day I visited was a “family day” free to everyone. You might think from the size of the building that this museum would take a while to visit. But the exhibits won’t take you long to visit. That being said, it’s an eclectic mix of art both ancient and modern. Find something you enjoy and then slow down and really enjoy it. If you’re a Tampa local they have a lot of cool community opportunities to get involved and make art together. But if you’re a tourist I wouldn’t make this museum a top priority.

If less is more, then here you have it. I barely started the tour and it was over. The Roman and Greek exhibit was the best of it. Part was closed for a new exhibit. The featured exhibit was mediocre. Better luck next time.

It’s a beautiful museum. The building itself is interesting. The museum displays an impressive permanent collection of Greek and Roman antiquities. The art ranges from ancient to modern. Also, enjoy delicious food, coffee or gelato at the Museum's Cafe and find a unique collection at the Museum Store.

Nice open and well presented galleries. Beautiful open atrium with a huge art installation floating overhead. As of July 2021, the current temporary exhibit presents recent works by artists from various points of view. The pieces by people of various backgrounds enriches the experience. This makes the museum relatable to everyone and brings greater awareness. There is a small cafe that provides food and drink options with a small area with tables outside. This area sits beneath the large shaded portion of the building. A nice way to end or extend your visit.

Very nice Museum of Art. They have a couple of unique exhibits and are currently showcasing some impressionist paintings from Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts.

Amazing museum with equally amazing staff. We took a group of high school science students from a Title I school that had never been on a field trip before who were questioning how science aligns with art and they were dumbfounded with the experience the staff set up. After returning to the school I've never seen the kids grab their journals and make notes so fast to start on their post visit assignment. There were even regular visitors who said they 'coat tailed' our tour at times because it was so fascinating to listen in. What a unique and fun experience with a fantastic adjoining park to sit and have lunch by the water.

This is a very modern art museum, and its nothing like other museums I've toured. We were very surprised because the museum was so open on the first floor. We were a little confused because we’re used to museums that do not have as much light and are much smaller like an intimate environment. We’ve lived here for almost three years; and we were hesitant to visit because each time we walked by, the museum looked closed. When upstairs, I expected to see more exhibits because the museum is very open. We’re from the Tri-State area, so touring Washington DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia museums unintentionally upped my museum standards (apparently that's a thing). Overall, everyone was very welcoming and kind. It was a nice stroll to avoid the afternoon heat. The 2D and 3D figures were very impressive, unlike anything I've seen before. We will most likely visit again, strictly because it's a quick break from the heat, inexpensive and it's in a beautiful area of downtown.

I loved the huge head sculpture on the outside. Lots of walking and running space outside and it’s right on the river walk. Nice space. Decent artworks. Pleasant day.

This is a very nice museum with all displays in 2nd floor. The display of Purvis Young’s Art was beautiful. His style is very unique as he used scrap junk to create art. They also antiquities; The Classical World. They also have Salman Toor No Ordinary Love on display which has photos with male genitals showing and geared towards homosexuality. I really didn’t like this and I think it’s not inappropriate for young children. I enjoyed the museum and liked that Veterans and active duty military paid $15 versus $25. They have very reasonable parking in a garage; $5 for 3 hours. It’s in a great location. They also have a gift shop. I gave the museum a 4 because of the vulgar art by Toor and as we walked down stairs there were huge dust bunnies on every step with hair in them. I can’t imagine that the staff hadn’t noticed it. Seems the stairs haven’t been cleaned for some time. I recommend visiting if in area and love art!

We visited the Tampa Museum of Art on one of the family days where they had several crafts for kids, as well as story time and live violinists playing. Was a great way to engage kids in history and contemporary art. The museum has a good mix of mediums, as well as local high school artists which I really enjoyed seeing. You can explore the entire museum in just a couple hours, it is not a very large museum. A few areas were under construction, limiting exhibits. Make sure to give yourself time to walk the Riverfront after visiting the museum.

Went to see the collection of paintings by the group of artists known as The Highwaymen. It was a nice collection that focused on just two of the total of twenty six artists in the group. I would have liked to see a broader representation of works.

The exhibits were nicely presented, but with only part of the second floor open, the museum is on the small side. The entrance and gift shop are clean and well maintained, but the gallery area on the first level is very minimal. There once was a cafe, which no longer exists, and by the looks of it, the museum did little to occupy the space properly. It's just too empty and lacking energy.

Great experience for my kids who had never been to an art gallery before. We loved the variety in the sculptures and painting styles. It was a very accessible space with lots to take in. Some of the pieces were on loan to other museums, but will hopefully be back next time. Excellent guest services by the staff. The gift shop was really nice too. Parking downtown is always a little tricky, but it was totally worth it for this great museum. Would definitely recommend to any art lover.

Honestly, it was incredibly underwhelming for the price. One floor of exhibits for $15 per adult. While the art on display was interesting & some very beautiful, it was overall kind of a let down.

This is a tiny but lovely museum with one classical art (mostly greek) permanent collection and temporary modern-contemporary exhibits. I went on last Friday of the month which is a "pay what you want" entrance. Galleries are on the second floor and rooms connected. I wish the experience was more engaging than only visual. I am into interactive installation and videoart and I was not lucky to find these during my visit. Nonetheless the exhibits were nicely curated... Watch out, you need to step at least 12 inches away from the art work on the walls.

We finally made it to this museum after wanting to visit for years. The staff was kind and courteous. My wife was asked to check her small purse in a locker, which we found inconvenient. Also, the cost of $20, even with a veterans discount, was higher than expected. Allow 1.5-2 hours for your visit. We were impressed with the antiquity exhibit and found the descriptions very helpful. The contemporary artwork from Purvis Young Redux had a good urban, inner-city struggle vibe that was interesting to explore (Basquiat’ish). Learning about C Paul Jennewein and seeing his work was another highlight. There was a cool room with what looked like steampunk art but most of the room was roped off. This was unfortunate because we wanted to see more. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and would recommend a visit.

My recent experience at the Tampa Museum as an event space for our first annual V Gala a nonprofit breast cancer event hosted by Fight Wright Foundation, was absolutely remarkable! From start to finish, everything was flawlessly executed, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees. First and foremost, I have to give a huge shout out to Nick his love for the museum and people is unmatched. Nick was always available throughout the entire process and when we had last-minute changes or questions and concerns he always put our mind at ease. Another big plus is the museum's location is simply stunning. Situated in the heart of downtown Tampa, it offers breathtaking views of the Hillsborough River and the cityscape, creating a magical ambiance for any event. I have to also give a huge shout out to salt block catering staff. The food and beverages served were absolutely delicious. The presentation was impeccable, and the staff efficiently managed the service, ensuring that everyone was well taken care of. The culinary experience truly exceeded our expectations. Lastly, I must commend the museum's commitment to art and culture. The opportunity to host an event surrounded by such incredible artwork and exhibitions provided a unique and enriching experience for our guests. It was a delightful blend of entertainment, education, and aesthetic pleasure. Whether it's a nonprofit event, like mine, wedding, corporate event, or any special occasion, the Tampa Museum is undoubtedly a first-class choice. Thank you, Tampa Museum, for providing Fight Wright Foundation with an amazing time and memories that will last a lifetime!

I'd say that this is museum was a bit smaller than I was expecting, but currently has some iconic and historic work from the Florida Highwaymen (mostly self-taught African American artists) that is worth checking out. It should be opened until about the end of March 2021. They have a few other collections as well and currently they are featuring that and Ancient Heroines. It's their 100 year anniversary and they will be undergoing a remodel of sorts so that's pretty exciting too! Admission costs $15 for adults and $7.50 for seniors, military, Florida educators, and professional artists. Students are $5 and children are free!! There is also a small cafe with a gift shop right next to it as well. Also, it's right next to the riverwalk so you can have a nice stroll afterwards!

This museum is located in a heart of Tampa. It has always something to see and do for everyone; great exhibits, classes, summer camps and great place to eat. A beautiful terrace overlooks the river, a park and downtown. It has easy access to River Walk and many other neighboring attractions.

We had a fantastic time at this museum. There were so many interesting things to see not including the great views. The museum was not crowded which gave us plenty of time to read, appreciate and reflect on objects in front of us. We sincerely thank Mr. T. Jackson for his recommendation and warm hospitality while visiting the museum. He lifted us from the week long rare gloomy Florida weather and made it a memorable one before we left. Thank you Mr. Jackson our Florida ambassador.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Tampa Museum of Art and was truly captivated by the exhibits and the rich collection it houses. The layout of the museum is both thoughtful and accessible, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the art. The staff were knowledgeable and welcoming, enhancing the overall experience. It's evident that the museum takes great pride in curating diverse and impactful artworks. Whether you're an art enthusiast or just looking for a day of culture in Tampa, this museum is a must-visit. I'm looking forward to returning and exploring more of what they have to offer. Highly recommended!

The performers were outstanding. I loved the candle light ambiance, and the musical selection. The one negative was the door near the stage was continually being opened by audience members going out and in all during the performance. It was distracting and disrespectful. If you can't sit down for 1 hour, maybe you shouldn't be there.

Definitely a unique place, super close to a water taxi stop 12 (I think)! Cool architecture, but I mean it's art so may not be your thing. But the kids interactive museum is next to it, so if you bored of art go there.

One of my favorite places to go if I have a few hours to spare in the afternoon/evening. I always park at Armature Work and take a 20 minute walk along the waterfront to get to the museum to avoid downtown parking. Love going here so much I became a museum member. I love that they’re open late in the evenings as well.

  • 5/5 H W. 10 months ago on Google
More impressive than I had anticipated with a diverse collection of works, although mostly contemporary. Thursday 4pm to 8pm is pay as you will and otherwise you get big discounts for student rates (and also AAA members although they don’t advertise that!) Current exhibitions such as Time for Change and the works by Salmon Toor are especially relevant and important given Florida’s current political contexts. Definitely worth seeing if you are in the area and have even a mild interest in art. Facilities were clean and well kept. Parking situation within close proximity to the museum is paid, so look into that if you’re planning to visit the museum (might be worth it just spending the day in the area which also includes the Plant Museum rather than just coming for the museum).

Parking will cost $10 but since we came at 2pm on Saturday we were able to walk .6 from Oxford Exchange and park for free. Took :10 to walk over the bridge and one block. Super easy. Our reciprocal museum/garden pass allowed us free access to the museum, normally $25 for adults, $15 for seniors/military/etc. The museum is relatively small and even reading all the information we were done in two hours. First floor had Estero Seguro exhibit (airplanes with hearts), I am a simple person… that is how I would explain it to my nephew. And Fleurish:The art of Naren Khan. Very pretty large displays of metallic flowers. Level 2 purvis Young paintings (on doors, windows…) see photos. Self taught. Additional displays of art by Estero Segura (History Bites its tail) .see photo. Next up was Miguel Aguirre (My Free Country) see photo. There were photos, tapestries, paintings, all to be considered. Come and spend a few hours. So lovely.

Great night! The music was awesome. I recommend brining a drink. They do not offer any at the event but do allow you to bring one in with you. The only thing that disappointed was they didn't play the final song on the playlist. Other than that it was a perfect night.

  • 5/5 Lori W. 4 months ago on Google
The music and ambiance were perfect! Only one recommendation: Every time guests opened the doors to go into the hallway which led to the restrooms, the bright lights were very distracting. If the doors were just left open with the hallway illuminated it would have been much better.

The museum had some very interesting pieces. It had a variation of all forms of arts from photographs, to drawing, to paintings, to sculptures and fabric art. It was definitely interesting to walk through. And the statue outside was beautiful!! I was a bit upset the illusion room was closed. I was looking forward to that. For some reason, I was expecting a bigger museum. It was only one level. If you’re a student, you will get a free admission so have a proof ready and you’re good to go. The cafe downstairs was really nice. The natural flower centerpieces, the sofa, and the lighting were all very relaxing. And then you can go outside and walk by the river. It was perfect for my husband and I. We had a great day.

Located right near the river walk and the children's museum. The Tampa museum of art is impressive from the outside. When you first walk in it is bright, clean, and you get hit with the yummy smelled from the cafe. Regular admission is $15, but they have discounts for military, teachers, and seniors along with FREE admission for students. All exhibits are located upstairs on my visit. To the left coming up the stairs they had a Roman exhibit with mostly pottery. Here I learned about their purposes based on design. There was an exhibit for Purvis Young. He was from Miami and mostly painted on walls and cardboard with an modern impressionist style. The last exhibit to the left was Haitian voodoo flags. These were all made of sequins, very decorative and nothing I have ever seen in a museum before. Going up the stairs to your right are the more contemporary art pieces. They had a piece that was wheels covered in plastic roses. This was cool because with a remote the wheels were able to turn. You can just ask one of the employees to turn it on if it is not running. On the second floor there is a balcony with a new sculpture of Aphrodite. It's got a nice view of the river canal and you can walk people bike and Segway on the pavement below. Three stars because there was a section on the section floor that was closed that at 1-2 more exhibits could have been in. There were signs scattered around the museum that said the piece of art was temporary removed. Definitely would like to have seen more since for most people it is not free. Even though it was a smaller art museum they could definitely use the space more effectively. I still recommend going because in order for this museum to improve its art gallery they will need customers

Beautiful experience. I highly recommend this as a COVID-19 activity -- it's super sanitized and feels safe, and both the visitors and staff were conscientious about social distancing. Beautiful art, breathtaking photography exhibit, and wonderful gift shop (I got two pairs of earrings for $30 due to the 10% off sale). 5 stars due to this place providing me with a peaceful evening out. I happened to go on a Thursday, when they allow a donation rather than full admission. I'm glad this was the case, as I spent only $5 on my visit. It's a beautiful space, but not with a ton to offer as far as work goes. They had a pretty large area sectioned off while they installed a new exhibit, leaving about (I would guess) 3/4 of the space left. This actually worked out in that I was able to thoroughly examine what interested me without feeling like I'd never see everything. My *only* minor complaint was the security guard. He was very kind and you could tell he was genuinely interested in the art, which I'm glad for. However, I wish he wouldn't follow people around. Several times I wandered to a different space and he would follow me, linger, then walk back to where other people were. This happened several times, and as nice as he was, I wished he would leave me alone. Other than that, this was a lovely place to visit.

  • 4/5 Christine A. 2 years ago on Google
Inexpensive and had some beautiful pieces but rather small. The people who work there act more like security and give no information or help in the exhibits. The extremely limited exhibits make it an hour and a half visit, tops. It's a beautiful space so it might be better once they open the closed off sections.

I visited this museum earlier this year and the covid restrictions were still in place, but the museum did everything they could from what I could tell to make the experience as nice as can be. I appreciated the fine art they had on display and definitely would go back one day.

Complete rip-off. $20 per person and got maybe 15 minutes out of it. Normally it’s $15 but we were charged extra because we were told there was an extra exhibit. Really? Where was it? Looks big from the outside but in reality, there’s barely anything in there. What little was on display was largely unimpressive. No clue how this place has a positive rating.

Great student discounts! The atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming: clean lines and open spaces. The staff is very friendly and they frequently rotate their exhibits which makes it a great place to keep going back to. Wonderful place.

Wonderful day at the museum. There was an impactful exhibit with the work of Purvis Young that I was blown away by!! There were also Haitian voudou flags that displayed the beautiful commitment and pride of practitioners and spiritual leaders. We would definitely return. We also enjoyed the cafe, lovely views and friendly employees. I'm posting a pic of the pricing because that was unclear to me before we arrived and almost deterred us from going. However, there are great student, artist and educator discounts so they definitely prioritize accessibility.

I really enjoyed my visit here - wonderful building and stairway up to the galleries. We visited on a Sunday and it wasn't crowded and busy like galleries in London, England are, so it was lovely to enjoy the art in peace.

Not worth 15 bucks. Took us 30 minutes tops to walk through the four rooms or so of art. Very disapointing. I remember the Minneapolis Art Museum taking hours to see everything.

I love museums, and it's the first thing I visit when in a new city. This one is okay. I guess for the size of the city it is in, and location. It has a little cafe with outdoor patio. The Caesar salad wasn't very good. No anchovies, egg... you know, the stuff that makes a Caesar, a CAESAR! LOL

I had the pleasure of sponsoring an event here as a vendor. As a Tampa native, I have never had the opportunity to visit this museum and I must say it is absolutely beautiful. Such a wonderful place to host an event! I had the pleasure of working with the Special Events Manager, Bernadette C. She was so lovely, explained everything that was expected & made herself available upon my arrival.

WOW! This museum was beautiful, the service was fantastic, and the architecture is so modern! If you are visiting Tampa I highly reccomend coming here. It's small but you can easily spend 1-2 hours

The Tampa Museum of Art is an educational, recreational, and community-building asset. The extensive permanent collection and world-class temporary exhibitions are rounded out by special programming and events. We look forward to when next its doors are open, and to new virtual offerings coming online.

I enjoyed the current love exhibit, but the museum is small and does not offer a lot. The exhibits they have are usually good, however. I think we were there about 30 mins.

We went to the pop art exhibit and thought it was great. Just wish the Yayoi Kusama room was longer. Or they had some of her art to look at. The staff was very friendly and the location was very clean.

Just left the Tampa Museum of Art with my wife and kids. We were looking forward to checking out every exhibit but unfortunately, that wasn't our experience. As soon as we walked up to the second floor, employee Mia didn't stop following my family and I around and yes there were others there. We all noticed it and decided to ignore her. As were leaving, I decided to politely ask her for her name and she said Mia. I was going to offer her the chance to be part of my family since she was always standing not too far from us. When we arrived to the first floor, I did asked to speak with a manager but my family didn't think that it would make a difference since the whole staff were white. Disappointed 😔😔, Obediah
