I've lived in the Tampa Bay area since I was 16 years old. Today I would be allowed to join one of those old people's organizations and refuse to acknowledge that I passed a certain age. What am I trying to tell you? I've been around Tampa for a long time and this has been my first visit here. This place lives up to West Tampa Motif. It is a simple place where people come to have a simple meal. I brought some friends over. One of them had a Cuban sandwich. It was his first experience and he was pleased with the experience. My other friend said she's heard of ropa vieja but always wanted to try it. Again, she was pleased. My spouse had the same thing and she had hers with moros which is rice and black beans cooked together. The one thing I would discourage you from having was El caldo gallego which is white bean soup. I would visit this place again. I encourage you to try this place out to see if you would have a good experience like we did.

West Tampa Sandwich Shop is a staple in my life. When I want a Cuban I go here. No place in Tampa compares to their Cubans and trust me I’ve tried! The “Obama” (honey) Cuban is what I get most of the time, but I’ve honestly never had a dish here I don’t like. Going here they treat you like family just seat yourself, order your food and enjoy 🙂 food come out super fast you won’t be waiting long

Ordered a half of a Cuban, fries and and a potato ball. Food came out fast and service was fast and friendly. Unfortunately the potato ball was still cold in the middle. This must mean the come in frozen and not house made. The fries were good and hot. The Cuban had little to no pork on it. Only leaving ham and cheese. Paid extra to get lettuce and tomatoes. This was really disappointing, since they are suppose to be “The Best Cuban”

We ordered papa rellena (stuffed potato with ground beef), croquetas, beef empanadas, Cuban sandwiches, and cafe con leche. The ground beef in empanadas and stuffed potato didn’t have as much flavor as I expected. It wasn’t well seasoned but I’m sure that’s catering to the American palate. Cafe con leche was really yummy!! I added some sugar to mine. The Cuban needed more mustard and less mayo for sure. Next time, would skip the mayo and ask for extra mustard instead.

A tasty option for Cuban food in Tampa, specifically, the West Tampa area. They’ve been in business for 20, 30+ years. My favorite sandwich is the Tripleta, three meats, and order it with a fried egg to put in the sandwich. Like a poor man’s egg Benedict of sorts… great coffee too

Went for breakfast and a Cuban sandwich to go. Coffee was fantastic, as usual. Breakfast was good, except for the grits; Had a very weird taste, like the water used had a ton of chlorine. Ate the sandwich hours later while on a road trip and it was very good. Recommended for breakfast but skip the grits.

I came 7am Friday morning, an hour after they open, to find a loud and chaotic scene. Workers running around seemingly trying to catch up but there were few customers. Kids getting sent off to school, a frantic pace and customers waiting around trying to be noticed. No cheery dispositions at this hour. Likely a late start to the day. The Friday morning gang of brothers that meet and congregate were in full swing talking about the latest events and tales of great food recently eaten. I had my bacon sandwich and started my day after a brief delay. I love it when product meets expectations. This shop has an excellent Cuban Sandwich, for another treat ask for the Media Noche, a smaller version of the cuban on a soft semi-sweet egg bread. Either can be ordered with lettuce and tomato. WTSS serves breakfast and breakfast sandwiches. There is a long and tasty list of sandwiches. There are also some lunch items like black beans and rice. They close early, 3pm and will be closed for the next week (March 27 - April 3) for vacation. They are usually very busy but food came quick, eat in or take it with you. Highly recommend.

My friend recommended me to try the Cuban sandwich here. I got here early morning 7am and there were few people sitting in the restaurant. You could see the staff busy working. The cashier was friendly and I ordered Cuban sandwiches and espressos for myself and friends to go. My friends and I enjoy both the sandwiches and the espressos.

They lock the doors at 1250 exactly on Sunday just as they told me on phone. Busy, service spotty I've had much larger large sandwiches before. The bread was great. The tripleta seemed to be missing the other meats. I did bring it up to her server but I know what pork alone looks and tastes like. The garbanzo soup was good but not hot. Server forgot our drinks twice. Lots of other choices don't think I'd be back

Really neat place! It's so hectic and vibrant. People talking, dishes clanking, coffee machines grinding. The location is in a house that's been completely redone into a restaurant. Don't let the exterior fool you. The server was nice but overwhelmed. We went during the lunch rush and it was jamming. She was very nice but slow because she had so much to do. But who cares. It was an experience. The food was great. I got the Obama Cuban and it was great. One of the best I've ever had. Fun place to visit.

Food was absolutely delicious, our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and had pretty nails lol. You never know when you’re gonna run into while you’re there. We talked to a customer named “Mingo” who was funny and such a pleasure!!! We will return!!

So I'm homeless and the wonderful people the work at this fine astablishment have been feeding me for about 3 years now. The whole place is filled with love and amazing food!!! Why wouldn't you want to experience this wonderful heartwarming restaurant for your self? They have helped me tremendously. And always do it with love and care. You don't have a good reason not to go and enjoy the food and coffee and give those wonderful human beings great tips and great reviews because of the greatness they spread to others less fortunate

Phenomenal shop to enjoy some delicious Cuban food. It was constantly busy but the service was impeccable, they made you feel at home and the food was amazing. The prices are beyond fair and I'll definitely be back.

Oh.... my..... goodness!!! This place is a MUST!! Just stopped here for lunch on our way through Tampa. I'm so glad we found this little sandwich shop while searching Google. The Media Noche and Tripleta sandwiches were probably two of the most delicious sandwiches my husband and I have ever had. Service was also excellent and friendly!! 10/10!!

8.5/10 $7 Not as good as the one from La Segunda but it's a close second. This one had some more flavor and texture with the added vegetables. Also, I thought it would be a place to get a quick sandwich but it's a sit down place

see pictures to get the vibe of the location. great customer service. portion of food v. price is really good. parking was easy but I am not sure where others park when designated spots are full. lots of pictures to look at inside while you wait for the quick service. a must go if you do not want to spend a lot for breakfast.

True staple and gem in Tampa for awesome Cuban sandwiches and bread! The Obama Cuban is a must have with every visit. Although there’s usually a wait and it can be chaotic, the staff is very kind and ensures a good dining experience!

It's a hole in the wall but I hear it's one of Tampa's old restaurant. Portions are great and the egg and cheese sandwich was delicious. Parking may be a little difficult, but I care about the food. Enjoy

I come here every time I’m in town and on my most recent trip I was very disappointed. I’m normally unbothered by the lack of customer service since the food is affordable, relatively fast and normally pretty good. I’m not sure what’s changed but my Cuban had barely any pork or salami. Essentially a ham and cheese. There are so many options for Cuban sandwiches in Tampa that I don’t really see the point in coming back.

Fantastic little West Tampa gem with a great Cuban breakfast sandwich. Get the egg, bacon and swiss version. By the way, the Coco Rico soda is a very refreshing choice. Make the breakfast sandwich over the top by ordering the large ($1.50 more at the time of this review) and combine the egg and bacon together from the two halves and top it with the bread that has the melted swiss. If you're still hungry you'll have two pieces of buttered Cuban bread. Other sandwiches are also on the menu; whatever you order make sure it's pressed.

Nothing wrong with a Cuban but now that I finally tried a media noche, i dont think ill be going back to a regular Cuban. Also, you know the foods gonna be good when the interior of a restaurant is the same as the day they opened.

In a town full of great Cuban Sandwiches, this is my favorite. The "Obama" with it's honey drizzled bread is over the top delicious. It is the only sandwich I will drive 20 miles for in Tampa traffic with no regrets. This place is definitely on my must visit list and the prices are so low for the quality.

This restaurant is amazing!!! I had the Honey Cuban Sandwich and my wife had the Egg Sandwich. They were each delicious.

My first time there and I'd have to say their Cuban sandwiches are absolutely perfect! I was on the fence between medium and large and went with the large. Glad I did. I ate every bite of it. It was so good! Extremely busy but only a five-minute wait time. Very friendly and well-organized place! Very popular so parking is a little challenging but worth it.
