Grease should've been changed to get better taste and appearance. The waitress/bartender was very welcoming and drinks were everything needed to get you going.

Very cool pub with an amazing bartender! Don't like whiskey that's fine, they have any liquor or beer you can think of. Great shot specials. The food was delicious! Indoor and outdoor seating.

Where do I start, everything about the place is great! The food is incredible, ate there 3 times (last time was the weekend of 7/8/23) and tried diff. menu items each time - 👍👍👍 not 2 but 3 thumbs up to the chef. Our server Izzy is the best...if you get her as a server, it's better than finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow - she is awesome. If I didn't live in Orlando, I'm sure I'd have my own bar stool there like Norm from Cheers - it's just that welcoming. Looking at the recent 1 star review(singular), such as having half the menu crossed off - apparantly that reviewer has a seperate agenda for the place that has nothing to do with the food, service or atmosphere of this establishment. Keep up the good work Ladies and Lads.

Friendly staff. I had fish and chips which was so good. Batter was light and great hand cut fries. My husband had chicken sandwich said was really good with a Buffalo sauce which had a kick.

Love this place! The service is fantastic, the drinks are reasonable for Ybor, and the ambiance is that of your favorite dive but with clean bathrooms. If you're in the mood for food be sure to try the Cuban. I know a Cuban from an Irish bar sounds odd but I swear it will change you... The homemade mustard and pickles are a game changer for this sandwich. They also have a fantastic Ruben sandwich if you're more into the Deli style. Either way be sure to get an order of their loaded fries as well you will not be disappointed.

Love this place! Definitely one of my favorites in Tampa. They have the greatest food (seriously!) and the staff are super friendly and personable. The bouncers/security staff will watch out for your drinks at the bar if you’re there by yourself, and it overall feels like a very safe and fun environment. I’ve never had an experience where I was waiting too long for service or encountered anyone rude or hostile. Only cool people come here! Oh, also—Tuesday night karaoke is the best karaoke in Tampa, IMO. Go check it out!

Popped here to watch a Premier League game and it was nice to see it lively and the crowd chanting Heurelho Gomes’ name during the Spurs game. A bit strange given he hadn’t played for them for about nine years but each to their own! There were about 40 beers on tap which great to see of many varieties. Despite the busyness the chap behind the bar and waitress were very efficient and friendly. You wouldn’t get that in England. The only downside was the food. I ordered small Guinness tots, but got given some loaded fries which had a biblical amount of cheese on, chillies and very so so greasy. They really weren’t that enjoyable. The consensus from the group was the same that food wasn’t great and too greasy. Not to take too much away from the bar though. It’s great for booze and sport and a lively friendly spot.

Great Irish pub. I didn't have any drinks but they looked to have had a great selection. I did have the food and both the Shepherd's Pie and Bangers and Mash were delicious. The portion sizes were quite generous and could easily be split by two people.

I wasn’t impressed walking in, but the food and service made this a 5 star experience! Our server, Sona, was friendly and attentive. And our food was excellent. I believe that was the best Reuben I’ve ever had and my husband really liked his chicken and waffles! With this place not on the Main Street it could be missed- but don’t let it! It felt like more of the locals hung out here, not just tourists.

My husband and I came for a late lunch in the afternoon we parked across the street at one of the paid parking lots because unfortunately the parking lot dedicated for the restaurant was blocked off by a gate so no one could park there . When we came in the bartender said we could sit where we liked so we chose a spot by the back of the restaurant near the kitchen and a nice looking electrical fireplace the Irish music and atmosphere was pleasant and I liked the decorations . My husband ordered a beer called 3 daughters on draft and I got a sweet tea and a water . We split boneless wings that were Parmesan garlic flavor a half order which I regretted getting a half order and wish I would have gotten the full instead since they were so flavorful and well cooked I got the shepherds pie that is made with beef pot roast that just falls apart instead of ground beef wonderful gravy and mashed potatoes covered with cheddar cheese it was so good . My husband got the fish and chips which was really good and the fries were well seasoned hand cut fries that still had a little bit of skin on them . We had an enjoyable experience there were only two staff when we first arrived and there was a large Meetup app group that kept growing changing seats and asking for a million different things, our waiter who was their waiter too and had other tables handled it well and the bartender jumped in to help with the table . As it got later in the day when we were leaving more staff came in to handle the dinner rush . We will be back we had an enjoyable anniversary lunch we have been together for 10 years and married for a little over a year so thank you for making it a memorable day . Hope to come back when there is live music on :)

Since moving to Ybor, I have found JJ to be my "Cheers" pub! The very first time I walked in to try out the food/beer, I was greeted with the warmest and welcoming service by Brandon! I told him we were new to neighborhood and he was so inviting and offered us tips on great things to try! I have always had a soft spot for an Irish pub.....and love the kind in darker/older buildings...which JJ has! The wings are by far my favorite here! Oh let me not forget those tater tots.....WOW!!! There is always something fun going on here too.......live music, karaoke (my fav), ladies night, $1 taco on Tuesday, Bingo (not your regular kind of bingo either ;-)), Trivia........the list goes on! To be honest...I love all the staff here.....Rene, Katie, Cady, Chris, Gabe, Marko, Chance, Natasha, Jason, Nick, Brandon (mentioned earlier, duh), Janice.....every time I come in...its like coming to visit family! I love the regulars too....we all have a bond and its a beautiful thing! They have so much to offer here....so if you have not visited yet....then what are you waiting for?! JJ has been a big part of why I have truly enjoyed living in the area! If you like to have fun....this is for sure the place to indulge in that! JJ will always have a special place in my heart! I added some pics of some amazing times and people from this place, to help give you a visual view of what I'm speaking about! :-)

The place is a fun, sort of off the beaten path place. It's not on 7th which is nice but it's still very close to ybor. The staff is fantastic and the food is wonderful! The Guinness toppers are pretty original too. And I love the bathroom sign. 🤣🤣

We stopped in for a nightcap and talked to the bartender. He was definitely a veteran and knew how to work the crowd (in a good way). Fun place. They had a fella playing guitar and singing. He did a nice job and played a good variety of Irish, classic rock and a little country. Relaxing end to a busy day. They did serve late night food. We didn't eat. It looked good.

This place is amazing. Excellent staff, great food, inviting atmosphere. Brandon was our server and you couldn't ask for better service, or a sweeter, more thoughtful soul. Katy, and Cady were also amazing and superb. Big thank you to Natasha for her service and great personality, and for allowing all of us to come in early and give us directions. Next trip back to Fla and definitely will stop back there. 👍

Really nice Irish Pub in the heart of Ybor. 50 taps!!! Plus a huge liquor selection. The food is excellent too! Parking is not ideal - there are 5-6 spots for the pub, but the rest is all pay-to-park. They also have punch cards for drafts and points for all purchases. Will definitely return!

Honestly, this Irish pub has the best tasting Guinness in the whole Tampa Area & it’s one of the few pubs that actually offer Kilkenny. Mondays there is Live music, Tuesdays is Ladies Karaoke and I believe Wednesdays is Bingo night. There is always something going on that is engaging and the atmosphere, vibes are amazing ! Haha you won’t regret coming here-

This pub always has great food! Went for lunch and to eat and watch the Buc’s game. I had the Reuben with chips while my wife had the Cuban Sandwich and tots! Food was fantastic and the beer was cold! Bartender Izzy was also very friendly and knowledgeable about beer and shot selection! We love to stop here whenever we are in YBOR or headed to the casino.

Fantastic place. Food was killer and reasonably priced. I will go back. Watch for the sign though, they are named RyGuys on Google maps but they are actually incorporated into the Irish pub. Not sure why but, still a great place nonetheless. And yes, you are allowed to talk to the chickens if ypu like. Just can't feed them.

Celebration for a friend last Friday night and we experienced the best people working at James Joyce. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, kind and generous. The service was so consistently great all night. They had a really terrific man playing a guitar from Irish favorites to great folks songs we all know. The whole bar of patrons, friends and staff all had a great time. Drink prices were reasonable and the food was so good. Try the ruben spring rolls and wings!!! Great vibe and so many car bombs!!! yummy. Can't wait to come back.

My GF and I were first time visitors, looking for new places as a relation is moving nearby. This place is an awesome Irish pub. Amazing selection of beer, TVs everywhere, a great menu (although we didn't eat this visit) And a fantastic staff. We will definitely be returning soon, and often!!

We found ourselves in Tampa for the evening around 10pm. All of us hangry we quickly agreed to the first place open with food. Lucky were we. It comes across as a very cool Cheers. Id never been there but within an hour I was completely comfortable. The food was surely only going to be bar level if best. Once again happily very wrong. The French onion burger and Chicken were delicious but the fries were next level.

I Love Irish pubs. Had the shepherds pie & fish & chips. We are really picky over shepherds pie and this one was really good. I would have loved to get three pieces of the fish rather than two that it comes with but the fish. & fries were really good. I wouldn’t mind coming back here again before we leave. We also had Live music & he was great.

Fantastic experience! I had a friend visiting the USA from Denmark, and we decided to come here for the the good selection of beer, and pub atmosphere as recommended by friends. Chris, was friendly, welcoming and attentive in serving us. We had a wonderful time, and since we were new to the area Chance made sure we got to our car safely. Great staff and great beer. Thank you guys!

Was looking for a place to eat while we were in town and saw good reviews for this place and decided to try it out. All I have to say is we were not disappointed and the food was really really good! I had the Shepards pie and my girlfriend had the wings. Between the food, beer choices and the atmosphere we will definitely be back when we are in town.

It's always a great time, with a large selection in beers on tap. Atmosphere and the 🎶.. Live music. Celebrated a few birthdays here. Always my go-to while in Ybor City. Staff is always friendly, and service is on point. We always get the shepherd's pie, and the Ruben egg rolls are always hit. Buffalo Chicken.. 🔥

Delicious food and Irish beer! Our waitress Izzy treated us like old friends! Very knowledgeable in Irish beer and what’s best on the menu! As long as she’s our waitress, we will be regulars now! Wonderful atmosphere!

Nice, clean place. Great beer selection, OK food (I had the Cuban). Great service. A bit overpriced though IMHO. UPDATE: the response from the owner (see below) is fair. I do like the place so we'll be back soon.

Had the shepherd’s pie, with some Guinness, he had grilled cheese with steak fries. Started off with fried pickles. All good and fresh. Shepherds pie had a good cut of beef, I think chuck not sure but it’s not ground beef, so much better quality than some other places. It’s really good.

Okay so I want to preface this by APOLOGIZING to Sadie by not leaving my review last night because I was just a little tipsy LOL but I'm keeping my word!! This is my favorite pub, not just because it's like 5 minutes from my house but because our first experience kept us coming back and the staff is literally so nice and we love the vibes here so much. Our first time here was about a year ago and our cat had to go to the emergency vet, we came in at like 1am after crying in the emergency vet and just needing to eat something and it was the only place open near our house. When we came in, we were still friendly but I think the staff could see we were super sad and they were SO sweet and nice and that just really made us feel really good and it's like our regular spot. SADIE IS MY FAVORITE <3 girl I literally love u. I come in probably 4 times a month and she's got my table at least 3 of those times. I've introduced her to my dad and everything haha! She is super sweet, so funny, ALWAYS on top of things as far as taking care of her tables and customers, and she's funny and all around just an amazing person. I'm so glad that I have somewhere to go where I feel comfortable with the staff (I am a nervous nelly). I just had surgery to get my tonsils out and they finally healed, the FIRST place I went was James Joyce to get those buffalo wings <3 they are THE BEST. So crispy and always perfect. SADIE thank you for always being the best, you are literally like a light floating around the pub!! Can't wait to see you in two weeks probably LOL

Had the best time with my husband. Awesome food, great drinks and super friendly staff makes you feel like an old friend. Being located in a beautiful area, I recommend visiting for tourist or resident. Pub has a lot of interesting events and activities, together with specials!

This was my first time at James Joyce Irish Pub and it wasn’t bad. The staff was really pleasant and lots of fun! The food was pretty good…and the bathroom was clean for the most part. I would definitely come more so for the drinks then the food but I would be back.

  • 4/5 Lolli R. 1 year ago on Google
I very much enjoyed my experience at this spot. Great beer selection. Scotch egg could be better, but I enjoyed the curry ketchup with it. And the fish n chips were just alright. I really loved our bartender/server though. He alone is why I'd come back! Great music!!!

  • 5/5 Nieves S. 2 years ago on Google
Best cheese fries ever, they call them Irish Fries and the boneless chicken superb.

  • 5/5 Jennifer H. 1 year ago on Google
Love James Joyce every time! We visit on the weekends pretty regularly. The wings, burgers, and Reubens are some of the best in Tampa. The cole slaw is my favorite side. We also love the guinness tots and fried pickles. Natasha is an outstanding entertainer, bartender, and fun friend to catch up with every time we go. Just call us forever fans!

  • 4/5 Christopher Lee J. 2 years ago on Google
Good pub with decent food and decent drink prices. It has limited outdoor seating but it does have some. Great live music and that's why I went. As with most restaurants, the quality of wings and some of the other bar food has gone down considerably because of constraints in distribution from the food suppliers. Not saying that to bash them but wanted to set expectations for some people returning because I found the size and quality of food went down. Service as always is phenomenal.
