Landscape was rugged, hugged by river bluffs and creek bottoms. First half of the trail traced river’s path, then habitats shifted from sand pine scrub into open palmetto scrub where cabbage palms and hickories dominate. The hike is a stacked loop, and we choose to cut it and make it a 3 mile loop. Tracked a total elevation gain of 15 feet, with some sections peaking at 36 feet.

Nice area for either a 3 mile or 6.2 hike. Terrain is mostly flat with some minor elevation changes. Nice transitions from scrub to plains to river banks. Plenty of birds, especially finches. Signs of hog activity for sure. Be mindful of snakes. It's Florida so bug spray is always highly recommended.

We hiked the hiking trail that heads at Saffold Rd. It is a fairly easy trail. Watch for deteriorated wood on several boardwalks. The trail has some muddy spots if it has rained recently. No restroom facility at the trail head or along the trail. Bushes are handy though.
