Junmai Station is a new Japanese takeaway spot in downtown Tampa at the bottom of the new Hyatt Place/Hyatt House. It is by the same duo that runs Ebisu Sushi Shack, so I expected good things. I wasn't disappointed! This eatery specializes in onigiri, which are scrumptious rice balls that are often in triangular shape and have various fillings. For my first visit, I got the shake (salted salmon $3.95) , shiso ume (shiso leaf & plum $3.50), tsukune (chicken meatball $4.25), and the rainbow (which is a whole plethora of ingredients $5.25). The shake and shiso ume were absolutely perfect! They were warm, delicious explosions of flavor in my mouth that were somehow so comforting. The shiso ume in particular, while the flavors were unfamiliar, was a real treat. Definitely try this one out if they have it! A selection of donburi (rice bowls) are also available, so I will try one of those next time. They only have a few seats at the window, so it's primarily a grab-and-go kind of place. I think this is a great addition to the downtown area!

I’ve visits almost every place within a 1-2 hour drive of Tampa looking for Japanese food especially Japanese Curry and this is the ONLY place that Nailed it 100%. It taste just like Japan. I’ve been to Japan 8x over the last 7 years and missed Japanese food so much while being in the USA. This place actually has legit Japanese food. Try it and you will know what Japan taste like

I tried the thinly sliced beef rice bowl (bulgogi beef) and it was pretty good! Also tried a rice ball that was ok. Overall it was a different taste than what I am use to with food downtown in walking distance from my job. I would go back again!

used to love this place when they first opened. stopped going because their prices increased and portion sizes have gone down. $5-9ish for one rice ball that you now finish in two bites. u would need 4 to be full/satisfied, which before just 2 would genuinely fill you. the owners are very sweet and nice. but with prices gone up and portions gone down, its just not worth it anymore.

My husband stopped on his way home to pick up some onigiri. I had been telling him I wanted to try this place for a while now. He said the kind woman made one of the rolls fresh for us since she was out. He went in 20 minutes before they closed. The spam was my absolute favorite followed by the chicken meatball and the tuna. I have literally been craving all of these rice balls since I had them. I need to take a day off just to get down here and try them. I wish they stayed open later but that's a miniscule complaint compared to how great the onigiri is.

I have eaten here 3 times since it opened. The food is always delicious! I could see the price pushing some off, but it's pretty much in line with the other Asian restaurants in the area. Below is everything i have tried Spam & Egg Musubi - The spam is teriyaki glazed and the egg is a yellow patty, not like a fried egg. It made for a delicious handheld. Ground Beef Onigiri- This was great, a little less meat than I would have liked. The meat has a sweet/salty teriyaki type glaze. Chicken Meatball Onigiri - This one surprised me how good it was. It had to most meat compared to the others and the meatball was seasoned SO WELL. Sour Plum Onigiri - This won was interesting. Not an everyday thing, but fun to try. The plum is very very tart, but it's supposed to be. Beef Donburi - The beef and onions are DELICIOUS. Love it! Seaweed Salad - Tasty! A little sweet with mostly sesame flavor a a teeny bit of heat from some red pepper flakes. Miso Soup - Very good. Surprisingly good. Would eat this all by itself.

Wow, this place is incredible! The Takoyaki is perfect, the rice balls and meat buns are delicious, and the Japanese Beef Curry tastes great. Can't speak highly enough of this spot.

Oishi! 😍 Just as good as when I was living in Japan. The spicy tuna bowl and onigiri are delicious! I’ll be returning daily while in Tampa!

I’ve only been here once, but the food was perfect. I lived in Japan for 3 years and I can say the nigiri/musubi (rice balls) are perfectly made here. It’s also nice that they have various Japanese drinks.

Had to bring my food back to my hotel so I wouldn't look bad inhaling my food in public.

This store sign says “don’t buy food for homeless “ Once we purchased food, that’s ours and we can give away if we want to. I don’t support that kind of negative energy.

Got a ton of food while I was visiting Tampa. I was hoping to get more onigiris but we were one of the last customers so we got the last spam one. The rice bowls were yummy, we got gydon and chicken teriyaki. Both tasted good. The sizes aren’t big, just enough to fill you up. The lady was so sweet, she threw in two miso soups for us. The spam musubi was okay, the spam was sliced pretty thing and it made me wish I had another piece. But over all it was very nice and authentic. There was nowhere to eat inside so we took our food back to the hotel.

Legit Japanese spot that reminds me of the food you'd get at Lawsons or 7-Eleven in Japan (If you know Japan, this is a good thing). If you are looking for authentic Japanese grab and go, this is the place. Their Onigiri is fantastic.

Tried the teriyaki chicken and it was good. I will try the beef curry bowl next time. A must-try for more authentic style Japanese food.

This place was absolutely delicious! me and my GF came here on a whim and had onigiri, takoyaki, a gyudon bowl and an order of dango and it was all incredible! we will definitely be back here every time we're in the area to get more!

This place is fantastic. My girlfriend and I eat here often and are never disappointed. If you're looking for fast authentic Japanese food, this is the place.

The spicy tuna was delicious. It’s got a little kick but it doesn’t overpower the tuna at all.

I think that their food are ok. I would advice against because it is basically steam chicken with teriyaki sauce on top of it. Spicy tuna is decent. Didn’t felt I was getting what I paid for. Maybe should have order something else.

Unfortunately, the food was somewhat pricey for being very unflavorful. We had a few different options together as a group, and no one was very satisfied. The service and people working there were excellent and helpful.

I’m not sure what changed from previous reviews but it seems heated up than made? Didn’t have much flavor or even thought out presentation. It was edible but bland. Soup I couldn’t finish.

A nice little spot to visit for a small selection of Japanese food. This particular place specializes, from what I've seen, in don and curry both of which are rice based dishes. They have a small selection of rice balls with various fillings as well as other appetizers to choose from to satiate that desire for simple Japanese foods. They do not have noodle soups as of yet, that is, soups like udon, ramen, etc. however they do have miso as a side in a combo meal. I hope that one day they may expand their menu items but for what I had I was satisfied.
