Roots Rock Bar and Grill Plymouth January 31, 2024 Another example of an overrated restaurant in Dominica. I’ve said it in prior reviews but I’ll say it again. The reviews of restaurants in Dominica are either fake or written by sand and sea enamored gringos who would never eat in these poor quality restaurants back home. Rule One when seated in any restaurant, ask “What don’t you have from the menu?” You’ll see what I’m talking about below. The restaurant is located across a quiet street from the water, not actually on the water. Far enough out of town to the north to discourage the locals hanging out with nothing to do. Attached is the menu. 8 entrees and 7 sides on the menu. See attached photo. We arrived at 6:00 pm. Upon arrival there were 4 total picnic tables. Two had 15 people between them and the other two had one couple each. All but two people were waiting on their orders We shared a table with a Dominica couple who have been living in New York for the past 40 years. Very interesting people. Nice company. That’s where the good experience ended. Immediately the server told us that they had only 3 of the 8 entrees listed on the menu. No chicken or vegetable dishes. Only lobster, fish and shrimp. The couple we sat with didn’t care for the lobster, so I ordered shrimp and fries and my wife fish and au gratin potatoes. 10 minutes later she returns to tell me there are also out of shrimp, so I change to fish. 10 minutes later she returns to tell me they have found one order of shrimp, so I change back. 10 minutes later she returns to tell my wife they have no au gratin potatoes. Then the guessing game started. My wife asked about another side to no avail. After two attempts we finally asked “What do you have?” “All we have are French fries” she replied. So again, after listing 6 sides, they actually had only one. I guess we’ll have to take it, like it or not. So with 3 hours to go until close, exactly what are they going to serve? Food was typical island food. Bland fish, tough lobster (from the couple we sat with) and chicken (who can’t make chicken?) One side which is pitiful for any good restaurant in Dominica. Get smart. What quality would you expect for USD 13.00? Beer was not cold. A waste of time. Don’t go. See my review for “Keeping it Real”. Further up the north road from this restaurant. The best I’ve experienced on this trip.

Good place for local grilled dishes and drinks.

Delicious! Fresh fish, great sides, awesome beach view, friendly staff, family friendly. Simple and low key. Walking distance from IHG Cabritts.

One of our favorite spots in Dominica! You can tell all of the love and hard work that Marley has put into the space. The earthy, open air vibes are perfect for sitting back and enjoying a cold beer. His food is excellent too- the coconut shrimp curry is a must. There is usually some fresh juices that are delicious on their own or with your favorite liquor. Thursday nights are reggae nights and while we were not able to attend one, I know it has to be fun! Definitely a cool authentic spot yo check out. Cheers

I went for drinks one night and then went to Wednesday reggae night- it was wicked- cool vibes- music was on point and never stopped - excellent DJs and selection- the place is packed out for this night and its worth it. Drinks flowing, bar food was delicious, drinks were great, music excellent and Marley the owner is a fantastic host. The decor is super cool too. Just Love it- worth a visit.

Great food and awesome people. Delicious fresh fish, macaroni pie, potato pie, rice, banana chips, fresh salad. Everything was delicious! The cocoa rum was a perfect treat also.

This has become one of our favourite spots during our stay here in Dominica. The sea vista is extraordinary. The food was delicious and over the past six months we have tried most of the menu. The music was always great and the service was friendly and welcoming.

Had two wonderful, fresh-fish lunches at Roots Rock. Taste, portion size, and service were all excellent at a reasonable price and with a super beachside view (it is just across the road from the beach). There is excellent snorkeling in view of the restaurant. Also, at this time of year, recommend trying the restaurant’s locally made sorrel beverage (the commercial alcoholic shandy is OK, but really enjoyed their craft sorrel spiced beverage, which I thought was better than at other locations). Also had some great discussions with the owner.

Best lobsters on the beach! The combo of drawn butter and coconut on the huge lobsters is amazingly delicious. Easy walk from Intercontinental hotel. Don’t skimp on the different rum punches—coconut, peanut, coffee, and regular. Chill vibe. Great music.

Awesomeness 👌 . The only thing is there should be a lot more 🍤 only got 5 for my dish. The taste was exquisite.

The sign says lobster fish and shrimp. We had maybe the best lobster ever. It was cooked to perfection with a very light coconut sauce on top. I can still relish the taste. We will return.

We stopped here for lunch after bathing in the beautiful beach across the street. The food was delicious and service was friendly and quick. This was easily one of my favorite meals on the island. We spoke to the owners (who are lovely) and they told us they do reggae Wednesdays. This is definitely a must visit while in Dominica!

Je ne suis pas habituée à mettre de mauvais commentaires mais nous sommes arrivés à 12h30 et à 15h10 nous n'avions toujours pas nos plats. J'en ai parlé à la serveuse qui avait l'air surprise et devait aller voir en cuisine. 30 minutes plus tard, toujours pas de plat ni de nouvelles de la serveuse. À 15h40 nous sommes partis sans avoir mangé. Forcément je n'ai pas envie de bien noter ce restaurant. Dommage, le cadre était sympa.

If you’re nearby, come here. If you aren’t, make the trek. Best lobster I’ve had… period. Get a peanut punch and have your mind blown. If you pass by and don’t stop, they will tell tales of your failure at your funeral.

Had a great evening here. Staff were very friendly and gave us anti-mozzie spray to use. Great range of drinks - we had rum punches, coco punch and peanut punch. Food was really tasty - grilled tuna and shrimps in curry sauce. A group of sailors from America joined our table. Had a great chat and they were great company. You have to try this place

Perfect location, great food/drinks and the sweetest people! Love to go for a dip in the ocean across the street then chill on the deck afterwards with a drink. Highly recommend the spicy wings and lobster.
