Pros: Great views of Tanga Bay. Very friendly staff. Cons: Cockroaches! Low water pressure in the shower. Poor temperature control of the shower (cold or scalding - little in between). The restaurant menu is very limited. Breakfast is supposed to start @ 7am but is seldom ready by then. Cats! Don't go if you're allergic or don't like them. They'll be at every outdoor meal, begging...

Stopped over for one night stay. Got an interconnecting room, ideal for families. Decent service including the food which was tasty. The beds were comfortable with clean linen along with towels available in the rooms. Located near the ocean, though, I don't think there is access to the beach. Reasonably priced. I recommend this place

Stopped by this place for a few cold drinks before we hit the road. The view was kinda ok but not the best.. Iโ€™d suggest you try the nearby Yacht Club instead. Asked the waiter if we could by card and she agreed.. when weโ€™re about to leave the receptionist says we canโ€™t pay by card and that we should try pay via M-PESA instead by dialing *150* something something # .. anyway, it wasnโ€™t working so after a lot of back and forth she finally agreed to run our card and it magically worked ๐Ÿ˜’ .. I have a feeing they were trying something fishy or the hotel has a policy to avoid card payments..maybe because of the charges. Horrible WiFi and the place is in need of a renovation asap. Would not visit again if I had an option. Also, there really isnโ€™t much to see/do here.

Very poor customer service , very poor.. They need to do better, they told me I wasnโ€™t able to order a drink if am not ordering food. That doesnโ€™t even make sense, so they were satisfied with loosing a customer.. Management needs to work harder.

Beautiful old colonial architectural, beautiful view of the Indian ocean and the Yatch club. Try their local swahili dishes, delicious.

Mkonge was the first place I went after being indoors from an injury for weeks! To be that close to the ocean, chewing on some of their peanuts that they garnish with curry leaf from a tree right at the hotel was lovely! Whenni first wrote a review, the above was true but recent events have really dampened my affections. The quality of service has steadily dropped. Several times now asking for couple of meals on their menu only to be told they are not available. Worse, you have to be careful with your goods and money while in the compound. The guard, kitchen staff and other members of staff recently worked together to steal money from a friend's car. Kitchen staff delayed the meal so the other staff could break into the car and wipe CCTV evidence. It's a shame to lose faith in such a beautifully placed establishment. The last time I spent my money here is the last I do. Unfortunate.

A wonderful place with Ocean view. The place is totally abandonned, no training for staff and no management at ALL. Old, durty and food is really bad. What a pity for such beautiful place.

Old and still the best. I should gave them less stars as the waiter tried to game me a fake bill. But still even after 20 years for me this is the best place to come for lunch and drink up in Tanga. The ambiance is amazing. In 20 years I have been here 3 times and still take pics when ever I am here.

Old colonial hotel that definitively need a rennovation. Regular power cuts, almost feels as if somebody is playing with the light switch. The staff makes the impression as serving clients is something they do not enjoy and any requests the customer makes is a big thing for them to do if they do it at all. Food: Food is ok, nothing special. Compared the excellent pizza place across the road, the food prices in Mkonge Hotel are expensive, especially if the quality is taken into account. ROOM: Mold in the bathroom all over the place. Only cold water available for shower. Wifi is cutting of every few minutes and takes forever to reestablish after the power cuts.

Ended there by accident....but I did extend my stay. Understaffed when at full capacity but non the less the staff are kind and willing to go an extra mile to make you feel welcomed. Rooms needs a decent scent service....to get a 5 star.

Mkonge Hotel Tanga is in a very good location by the sea. Very good environment to stay here and their rooms are also very good. The rate is taken according to the market, there is a lot of space available for parking. Everything is good but the food quality here is not very good. The vessels in which they serve food are not proper, all rejected items and broken items. Vegetarian food is available here but it takes 1 hour to be served after ordering

I believe hotels are all about quality customer service. And since this is falls under the term "hospitality" hotels are required to be hospitable by default. Quality customer service should apply to all areas of the hotel, starting from reception all the way through. The hotel staff was not friendly at all. They hardly smiled! For someone who had visited Tanga for the first time, I'd rather say it was a horrible experience. The rooms weren't clean enough and neither were the toilets. The food waiting time was longer than expected and the waitresses would forget bringing any additional orders. I strongly recommend serious improvement as it spoils the hotel reputation.

It has a beautiful view of the bay and the island. The hotel rooms are on a 2 star rating level, but the staff are extremely pleasant and try their very best to please their guests. The water pressure was a bit low in the shower but it was not too bad. The food won't kill you but nothing to write home about.
