This a great budget accommodation hidden in the heart of Oyster bay.... The accessibility to the beaches and tourist attractions is one big advantage... Pool for cooling off the coastal humid heat and Wi-Fi is pretty fast. The rooms look better in pics though but it's a great experience.

Gallivanters that offers just more of an experience than you expected from the regular hostel! I have an absolute pleasure staying in this cozy, spacious and safe place with large pool! First hostel ever with a pool in the middle of Masaki area, where everything is smooth and all trending places are around. 3 friends Roger, Kibwana and Collins are managing the place, super chilled, confident and practical Tanzanians who have that ' all okay, make yourself comfortable first, formalities later' vibe about them. Clean and fresh towels, comfortable shower ( need more water pressure though), minimal but comfortable furniture to get instantly cozy and warm. Spacious dining outdoor areas, chill and have amazing conversations over breakfast with fellow travellers. Felt more cozy and comfortable than some of 3stars hotels I stay at. Absolutely loved it! Tamara was amazing, my room was single queen bed with bathroom. Clean and spacious with AC. Entry time was flexible, have luggage storage(+) Shout out to Martha! THANK YOU! Only upside upstairs assess it's narrow and spiral...good luck with heavy and large suitcase!

This was one of the worst "hostels" we've stayed in during our time in Africa which is a shame because the location was good & the dorm room not too bad but the service was incredibly poor & hence the one star review. It is all of the little things that matter which end up turning into a bad experience. The check in was embarrassing where we were shown our room & then just left to it. There was no info on the facilities or wifi & when we politely asked it was like it was a hassle for the manager (or owner?). We had people check out & they didn't even bother cleaning the room or those beds. The breakfast was pathetic being a one egg omelette & small piece of fruit so not worth advertising that. We were never sure who was in charge & it was just chaotic, even with a young kid running around. I would not call this a hostel but more like a dysfunctional guesthouse where you're intruding on their space rather than being welcomed in.

The host was very responsive, kind and homely for sure, my stay felt like home away from home…very clean and location was the best! Could access bolt very easy,The environment was quiet and peaceful anytime am in Dar es Salaam il for sure book there!

A really pleasant and clean place, kind staff with a pool and a kitchen that is open to anyone who wants to cook! Wi-Fi and breakfast included in the price. We had a great time

Amazing hostel with an amazing staff. It's recently renovated, all clean and nice. There is a big, clean swimming pool, washing machine available at any time you need and the location is very convenient. Shopping mall is just around the corner. Kitchen is well equipped and there is enough space for remote workers with strong wifi, which is not always the case in Tanzania and Zanzibar. You will get to meet great people there that are always willing to help and give recommendations. Thanks guys😎

The vibe here is relaxed. KB, the owner, and his friends are super friendly. Being local to Dar, he had good recommendations on places to go and where to get local food. I also like when businesses are owned and run by locals. The hostel is spacious and has loads of space for chilling out, digital working, or recuperating after hiking/safari. I recommend coming and spending a few days here to get to know Dar and learn about the local cultures.

The staff here are amazing! They helped us so much and were so kind to us. We had problems with our bus and luggage storage and they helped us so much. It’s a very relaxed vibe, clean and very safe. Maybe slightly more tired than the pictures show but still a very comfortable stay which was made excellent by how helpful and kind the staff are!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Gallivanters Hostel, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. At 50 years old, I wasn't quite sure what to expect from a hostel, but I was pleasantly surprised. First and foremost, the atmosphere was incredibly relaxed and peaceful. Sometimes you just want to escape the hustle and bustle, and Gallivanters provided the perfect retreat. I have to give a special shout-out to Kibe, the manager. He went above and beyond to make my stay special. Kibe took time out of his busy day to show me around and even recommended the most affordable fabric shops in the area, which I greatly appreciated. His warm hospitality truly made a difference. The best part? A comfortable bed and a simple, yet satisfying breakfast were included in the incredibly affordable $15-a-night rate. Trust me, finding such a gem in a wealthy neighborhood like Masaki is no easy task. I felt like I had struck gold! The hostel even has a pool, which was a lifesaver during this Dar Es Salaam heat wave. And for a solo female traveler like myself, the dormitory with an ensuite bathroom was a blessing. What surprised me the most was how well the room's air conditioning worked. It was so cold that I had to request a second blanket – crazy right lol. Anyways, Gallivanters Hostel is affordable and the location is perfect literally all the best cafes, bars and restaurants are walking distance. If you're looking for a tranquil, budget-friendly, and a place that is not trying to sell you every safari trip in Dar Es Salaam with fast WIFI and an accommodating manager, this is the spot for you.
