We had the best experience! We were a group of three and stayed there one night. The room was very comfy and the bathroom was very modern, all newly built. The area is quiet, and Hilary was a super host, making us feel at home. He is still building some parts of the hostel so we'll definitely have to come back, it's looking very promising! The dinner made by Elisa was awesome, and when we had to go early to the airport, Hilary made us an early breakfast and arranged our transport. 100% recommended, Asante Sana!

If you are looking for a place to stay this is definitely the right address! We booked a room for 2 days and extended directly, because we liked it so much here. The rooms are very clean and lovingly decorated and the host Hillary is insanely helpful and helps you with all questions and if you want he also organizes day trips and safaris for his guests. The food is freshly prepared by his cook Elisa every day and has also tasted very good, she has even prepared especially for us vegetarian food! We felt very comfortable there and would book this accommodation again in any case!

Hillary is such a lovely human being. He was a delight to share conversations with and was very helpful and kind. I was looking for a quiet and isolated place away from the city, and having a private room and it's private bathroom for such an affordable price as a solo female was a luxury. I am a tea fanatic and the kettle in the room is just my cup of tea! Asante Sane!

Smooth and Relaxing We had a wonderful time, Hillary our host is so friendly he went beyond my expectations, super helpful, his cook too, no complaints at all. I will definitely come again once I'm back in Arusha. The place is 4 miles to Arusha's center. The breakfast is full, fruits are wonderful, and the house is beautiful with lovely painting all around. The terrace is perfect for a chill time during the day, and night as well.

Stayed for 2 nights in this lovely home stay.Breakfast is included, so it’s really reasonable prices for staying here. Also lunch and dinner are offered for a little charge. Hillary is a real kind and gentle owner, who’s making sure you don’t miss on anything. The rooms are really clean and they got own bathrooms. The only downside is the location, it’s a bit far out of Arusha, but just ask at the reception to order some transportation and it’s all good. Big bonus are the 2 really cute bunnies ! Can highly recommend staying here and would definitely book again !

I had such a magical stay at SemaTena. I’ve been traveling for over an year, staying mostly in hostels, and Hillary and Eva really made me feel at home! So I even came back for a few more days after I left. The rooms are beautiful and new. The toilet is very good, with very nice hot water. The whole place is extremely clean and the food provided for an extra cost is affordable and delicious. The neighborhood is quiet and you can even get a feel of real life in Tanzania. Hillary can also organize any activities you need and it’s very helpful with everything.

A lot was promised online, which was simply not true (the room was very small, had no bathtub, there was not a single safety box on the whole property, the bar was just a construction site). The beds led to serious backaches after the second night, which was one of the various reasons to leave earlier. There was only wifi on our first 2 days - then it never reappeared. There was no power for long periods of time each day. The included breakfast is not good if you take it early. If taken later, you have to be quick, as the hosts eat themselves in the guest eating area too. The dinner ist way too expensive for the little amount of food you get. Unfortunately, there are no other food options in the area. On top of that, we turned ill during our stay at Home Villa. When informing the host on that, he was insisting to receive all the remaining money instantly and knocked on our door for several times to get paid although we were unable to pay at that moment. We would have wished to get help. When we asked to leave earlier, the host said he could not change our booking and made us pay for all nights till the end of our original booking. Just a few hours after leaving, the host was offering the room online again although we were still paying for it.

I loved the feel of SemaTena. It was very relaxing and felt very safe. I enjoyed hanging out with Hillary and the staff, having morning coffee, evening cocktails and just laughing around the campfire at night. If you want a little more than relaxation, give Hillary's safari company a try! I had a first rate, very reasonably priced safari as well.

Hillary's Villa is an excellent place to be. From the compound, fire place, kitchen, rooms and the bar made my stay very convenient. The surrounding offers a unique ambiance and a peaceful atmosphere for relaxation. He has a unique taste for decor as well. Hillary and his staff are very friendly, courteous, kind and trustworthy. I was well received by him and had lots of fun while at his Villa and Arusha in general. He's a good tour guide as well. Am definitely visiting his place again very soon. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! I learned about Hillary’s Home Villa through another traveler. We were visiting Arusha and staying almost 30 minutes away from our friends at Karim Orphanage. We decided to move to Home Villa and had the best experience! It is safe, beautiful, great internet, hot water, a bar, delicious food, lovely outside furniture to enjoy the Mount Meru view!! The cost is so reasonable but more importantly, it was so comfortable and Hillary, Michael and Neema took great care of us!! Thank you all for the great experience (and the epic games of Uno)!!

If you re a fan of posh hotel in town center with expesive restaurant in it - dont bother. But if you like to stay on the edge of the town, see how real Tanzanian village people live. Stay in well equiped room with private toilet and shower, not expensive little bar, owner and staff always there to help you with transport, tours, evening stories about Tanzania and any info you would need - YOU MUST STAY HERE :) Kettle in the room if needed. Private toilets and shower. Separate hot water tank in the room. Dinner on request if running late from tours etc. All the info about tours/ transfers (contact owner Hillary, he will tell you everything before hand). Fire just outside the bar once it gets dark if you like. Secured site. Solar panel electricity for the lights etc in case if there is a power cut. Asante sana Hillary. Dream big ! ..Good luck :)

😠 Think twice before staying. I stayed for three nights, no hot shower. It's so far away from everything , that means if you want to eat, you are dependent on them. The menue is very limited, very low quality, and almost European prices. To top it of all, you'd be risking your life if you do safar...

👍 Great place and awesome host. The location was a bit outside the main city center but considering the price it was a great place to stay if you have never been to Tanzania.
