First - the good: the views are truly amazing and made lounging around on our balcony, by the pool, or at meals very enjoyable. Additionally, most of the staff are very nice and helpful. Second - the bad: my main issue is with this being advertised and priced as a luxury property. The rooms are fine, but the beds and pillows are extremely uncomfortable (our beds in a national park budget Banda in Mahale NP were more comfortable than the beds at this place). The food at the restaurant is terrible, which I wouldn’t inherently mind, however it’s also ridiculously expensive. They don’t have a lot of the items on the menu and don’t consistently make anything (I ordered a margarita pizza, on the menu it said it has cheese and tomato sauce on it, however it came with lettuce, carrots, and peas on it).it should be noted that this is in no way the fault of the employees, the kitchen they are working from shouldn’t really even be called a kitchen, it’s two burners and a small deep fryer. Which brings me to my next point, this place has seen better days and needs to be updated. What is advertised is definitely not what you get. The “private beach” is like a mile walk away, there are no chairs, and most of the beach is red dirt and a dump pile for scrap metal? There are abandoned buildings along the property that are no longer used and not kept up. They also market this property an “animal sanctuary,” which it is most certainly not. The animals are enclosed within a portion of the property, which isn’t even close to big enough for all the animals. These animals have clearly been brought to live here for the benefit of tourist. Lastly, this property does not sell alcohol, which I didn’t see advertised on the website and only found out about upon arrival. This was not only frustrating but I felt like it was something they actively did not want guest to know about until arrival. ALL IN ALL: none of the issues I have mentioned above would have been a big deal had the property been advertised more honestly and if the price was more reasonable. Not good value for the money.

Sangara restaurant, management changed since we were here last time 7years ago. Things are falling apart a bit. But still a magic place. Firstly: no alcoholic drinks, only Softdrinks (or smoothies, milkshakes, mocktails). Secondly: the portions can seem a bit small, but very good taste and nicely arranged. The pan fried fish filet was outstanding, also the fish curry can only be recommended. The kids portions (pizza) were a bit tiny. Go with the classics for dessert (ice-cream with chocolate sauce). Awesome views, much to explore for the children (tame zebras, caged birds, huge garden).

Very nice hotel on the hills of Kigoma facing the massive and beautiful Lake Tanganyika. Some wildlife to see as well within the compounds.

Excellent location, great view of Lake Tanganyika. The compound of the Hotel right from the entry gate are very nice and welcoming- green natural trees all over. The grass area is huge and very well kept. Animals like zebra are also kept and freely move within the hotel compound. There are cottages where visitors stay. The rates differ depending on the cottage you select. There are animals freely

A nice place, comfortable rooms, a wonderful view. You can observe some free animals inside the hotel such as Zebras and monkeys. Things I didn't like: They have some captive animals, alcoholic beverages are not allowed.

Amazing holiday! We've enjoyed three wonderful nights at Kigoma Hilltop. The staff is super friendly and caring, nice food and over all a great atmosphere with the special view, the nature and the free animals. We did a really impressive daytrip to Gombe, which was fully and perfectly organised by Hilltop. Going to town is easily done in 5 minutes by bujaji. And at least we loved the beautiful sunset!

Very attentive staff and beautiful location. Some parts of the property need a little tender loving care to be updated and upgraded. The food is hit and miss. One of the worst steaks I've ever eaten. The local Velvet Monkey population is fantastic and fun to observe.

This has to be one of the most scenic locations in Tanzania. The hotel overlooks Lake Tanganyika from a high vantage point, the lake is beautifully serene. The hotel has excellent service, food and accommodation.

The hotel manager has the worst communication service I have ever had to encounter. Change... we tanzanians are not Rude people...

Such a wonderful stay! Beautifully landscaped gardens with a lovely collection of well cared for animals. A peaceful and luxurious setting to relax and unwind. Delicious food in the restaurant, with panoramic views of the lake and gorgeous sunsets! The management and staff work hard at creating a welcoming and caring setting for their guests. Highly recommend!!

The hotel service was excellent. We told them that we would like to do some excursions to see the lake and they organized them for us. The room had incredible views and they were very spacious, like suites. The food is okay, nothing special. The problem is that they don't serve alcohol, not even beer.

We've been there for 3 nights. The staff was extreamly friendly and helpful. The place is beautifully located above the lake and the apartments were lovely and clean. The food was nice with a little downside; it took them quite long to prepare and to bring it. But beside that, we had a great time at a beautiful place with lovely people!

All in all it was a great stay at the Kigoma Hilltop Hotel. There are a lot of animals in the area. Only the time we had to wait at the restaurant was a little long and we didn’t get all meals correctly. The people are very friendly and attentive. Can recommend it! Thanks for having us!

The hotel doesn't serve beer or whiskey. No alcoholic drinks are allowed, which is bad for the hospitality industry. The hotel charges 5% on credit cards, which is too high. I will not stay there anymore. I will not recommend to any one to stay in this hotel.

I went there just to look at the wildlife. I did not stay at the hotel. The reception area was immaculately decorated in antique and very beautifully crafted African art. The restaurant was also nicely decorated with beautiful crafted furniture.

Not all that. Quite disappointing actually. Very windy on the viewing deck so there was no outside seating when we visited. The charge a fee if you’re only having drinks but the fee is waived if you’re having a meal. Ridiculous. Also, WiFi is only available to guests staying at the hotel. In 2022. Most of the facilities were a bit run down due to COVID I guess.

Beautiful location right on the Tanganyika Lake shore. The staff is helpful and the food is delicious. There is resident zebra and wildebeest at the property, it was wonderful to see them so close at the sunrise light. The rooms are clean, air conditioned and the bed is warm and comfortable. As you go out on the private terrace, you can enjoy the lake view, and as you have breakfast or dinner you can enjoy the wonderful colours and serenity of the lake. Truly gorgeous spot to stay in. Very recommended.

We had recommended our Gladiola Adventure Tanzania self drive clients to book this accommodation and they were all very happy with their services and advise others to book this place for their stay in Kigoma before and after Gombe national park.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The rooms were lovely, (all mod cons) and the views from the balcony fabulous. The huge pool was sparking clean and restaurant served great food (and the 'included' breakfast is excellent)! A BIG thank you to all the staff for looking after us so well! They organised the Chimpanzee tour with Mbali Mbali for us and we had a fantastic time, it was a 1st class tour and the highlight of our trip - 100% recommend doing it👍 Definitelly recommend this place, it's a real treat👍
