If you read the reviews you may think it's not worth going there because it's a tourist trap with tipping required for everything, not a real farm etc. - I was a bit worried about it too, but we enjoyed a tour very much. Yes, it's not a real farm - but the point is more educational here - you can see the different types of fruits and spices, try to guess which one is which, learn quite a lot on how those are growing and what you can do with them - so if you treat it as an informative tour rather than 'how the real farm on Zanzibar is running' then the experience is better. Yes, the tip is highly welcome, but to be honest, I actually felt like the guy earned it. Yeah, you are paying 10$/person at the entrance, but isn't that quite common everywhere to tip for the good service? Yes, it's designed for tourist - you get fancy stuff made out of palm leafs, you get the show with the guy climbing the coconut tree, you are offered to buy some overpriced cosmetics - but it's all a part of the tour, so you can just enjoy it and say 'no' for anything that you are offered to buy and the guys here won't be mad - at least we didn't feel like they are pushing us to buy anything. So, all in all - worth visiting :)

Really good experience. First I was educated on spices and farming in Zanzibar and then made a delicious cultural dish. Highly recommended.

The people that work there are extremely well mannered and properly educated on what they do. Intensive and in-depth knowledge of the plants and spices, and what they're used for. We also had amazing local Swahili food that they had prepared for us as well as a huge variety of fruits. You have to inform them at least a day prior though. I highly reccomend Momo, who was our guide.

Amazing place, I learnt a lot about spices and the cultivation of fruit and vegetables. The local guides are very nice, the spice market very nice, I bought a lot of spices that cannot be found in my country!

One of the many Spice Farms around Stonetown. Entrance Fee was 10 Dollar per person. The place itself looks decent in my opinion. It is not a real farm but only for tourist information purposes (none of those farms are real farms, but that's ok). The guide was also friendly, talking good English. Negative points: - There is a guy who climbs up a coconut tree and is singing (very loud) a song. That is so unneccessary and riciculous. During the tour I heard this guy over and over again (because he is singing for other visitors) and in my opinion it disturbs the tour. I would like to have a quiet and peaceful spice farm. - There is also another guy who creates crowns, ties etc. out of banana leafs. This is also unnecessary tourist bs. - At the end you get some different tea and fruits (just small pieces, but that's ok). Of course they want a tip for every single s***. Of course they do not get one since nobody of us asked them to do this (and it's included in the 10 dollar price). Sansibar people would really doing themself a favor if they would not expect a tip for every single s***. I mean I already paid 10 Dollar which is massive. Nevertheless you can give the guide a little tip at the end of the tour if you want. But please keep it in a reasonable range, otherwise they get further spoiled (and yes, 10k Shilling is way too much tip). During the tour at some stationary stores on the farm they try to sell you very much overpriced parfum, soup and spices. I politely declined and they accepted this without further asking and stopped the sales trial. Please never buy from them. It is a rip off. Buy spices somewhere else like in Stonetown market. You can go to Tangawizi farm, it is one of the bigger ones, well organized. You can learn about different spices. But be aware of the negative points I stated in this review. They apply to (most probably) every other spice farm in zanzibar.

A unique experience in life. Here you can find and find out everything about certain exotic plants or fruits. The guide was very kind to us and explained everything very nicely. The spice farm is quite large, it takes about 2 hours to visit, and at the end, you can taste the fruits from that farm.

You need to visit the spice farm if you ever find yourself in Zanzibar. This was a rather educational experience i didn't anticipate but totally worth it. The tour guides were very helpful.... you don't only get to learn about spices, but you see, feel and taste them. Very insightful. You also get to taste/eat some local dishes and fresh fruits for dessert. I highly recommend this activity 👌 Ild have rated a 5star if they had decent washroom for visitors.

Basically it was interesting to see all the plants. Explanations were good at the beginning. After the "show" with the coconut man, the expectations of the guide to receive a big tip was high. Our tip was obviously disappointing, he was afterwards only interested to finish the tour quickly. This tip begging everywhere is just annoying...

Amazing trip and tour we had with Brighton. We saw all kinds of spices and where they came from: cinnamon, turmeric, pepper, avocado, chilli, starfruit, lemon grass and so much more. We had delicious lunch and fruits. Totally recommended.

Very cool trip to show spices and fruits grown, you can make the tour as long as you want, the shop here is more expensive than zanzibar but the quality may well be better. Locals are tight lipped about which is best, very communal feel throughout the place. Friendly guides, see if you can make it out with a reed hat.

We had a great and informative tour of this Spice Farm and were treated with patience and courtesy as we had plenty of questions....a special thanks to Salim who was excellent. The fruit tasting and tea drinking was a very welcome bonus.

Salim Choyo was our gide and we couldn't wish for better one. It's a tour through different fruit tree and spice garden. It is not big, just few from each species but well layed out so that groups of tourists don't clash with each other. TZS 20000 entrance fee and if you wish to have a meal, another TZS 20000 Meal was very good prepared by local cook, highly recommend. The tour itself was very educational. We could try different spices right from the tree or from the ground with a help of Salims colleague who prepared them. All was presented in entertaining and interactive way. There was entertainment with palm climbing, bit crazy performance and fresh coconut tasting. For some, all described above may look too touristy, artificial and far from authentic, but we enjoyed every minute of it. Be ready to tip for everything.

It was okay. Not exactly a luxury experience. Our guide was good and entertaining. But go to a good arboretum, like Garfield Park in Chicago and you will see the same spice plants/trees that you will see here. Yeah...overall just meh. And oh, don't tip the coconut tree climb guy.

I had an amazing visit to Tangawizi Spice Farm. The scents and colors of fresh spices were a treat for the senses. Our guide, Briton, was knowledgeable and welcoming, sharing incredible insights into each plant. The staff's kindness didn't go unnoticed; their hard work is commendable. They're not only passionate about the farm but also dedicated to helping the community. A heartfelt thank you to Briton and the team for a memorable experience. Highly recommend visiting!

We want to thank our guide Hashim Khamis, who showed us around the farm. He explained us many information about the spices in the farm, the origin, characteristics, how to recognize and how they grow. He was really helpful and enthusiastic. We were very lucky to have him and his colleagues, who made a nice tour for us. In the farm you will find many spices and fruits. We hope you have a great experience too!

My second time doing this and this time around it was much better then the firdt time. I think having the right guide makes a huge difference. Do yourself a favor and go and try the fresh fruit that's on offer after your walk through the farm. The juiciest and sweetest pineapple I've ever tasted. Give the red banana a try. You will thank me later. #keithdlikes

Visited on Sept. 2022, we went on a spice tour with cooking workshop in the end. The tour was rely enjoyable and informative. The cooking was a fantastic experience, the food was delicious, and the chef masterful and a perfect educator. We got takeaway boxes for free, and even our family could enjoy the plentiful and tasty result.
