The location is superb (just in front of "The Rock") and the restaurant magnificent!!! BUT !!! the restaurant was empty with very high prices which did not correspond to the service of the restaurant: we were 5 with 3 children, they did not manage to find us a table, we were not welcome. Very disappointed, we left as we came :‑X

Upendo Beach is an exceptional place has an amazing beach view and the decor of the place is great too. The cocktails are amazing. They have a set of cocktails or you can make your own cocktail which I would highly recommend. A list of different liquor, spices and fruit for your own personalised cocktail. The food also very good! I've had several dishes and haven't been disappointed with any of them. Portions and pricing of the food can be a little bit better but other then that you can't go wrong I would definitely recommend eating and drinking here with friends & family.

Careful, the restaurant waiters are thieves, who steal your money at the time of the bill (date of the lunch: 12 october 2023).

My wife and I spent the last 6 days of our honeymoon from Ireland here. It was paradise. Serena, Theo, Geoffrey and all the staff provided a perfect service, thank you very much. The room was spotless and very relaxing. The private rooftop pool overlooking the ocean and the famous Rock restaurant was a luxury worth having. There was a good selection of food with some nice live music. Beautiful place, local people are very nice and it is a place that we will always remember. Thank you

We came only as a visit to the restaurant and not the hotel. The food is phenomenal! The chef is a virtuoso, both the dorado & tuna fish and the sweets were delicious. Definitely a recommendation!

Amazing food! I still thing about that indian kofta. 🤤🤤🤤🤤 Prices are "European", portions on the smaller side but great view of the Rock restaurant. Delicious food and polite staff.

Stunning beachfront hotel with an adjoining restaurant and gift shop on Pingwe beach. You’ll have a beautiful view of The Rock Restaurant from here, especially at high tide. We visited the restaurant for lunch. It’s modern and stylish, with a great vibe. The seafood platter is good and well priced. You can sunbathe on the sand or splash in the reef after lunch. The beach with The Rock is a beautiful sight, and whilst a bit rocky, is much less hassle than say Paje, and much more sheltered from the wind. The service is a little on the slow side but the food comes out in reasonable time. You can browse in the boutique whilst you wait, where there is a beautiful selection of women’s clothes and jewellery, although do note they’ll be at international prices. I would definitely recommend this place if you’re missing creature comforts. It’s ideal to unwind here.

Really nice views and tasty cocktails and food. We only went for drinks and appetizers but saw beautiful full moon over the water.

Upendo used to offer a free swimming pool.....now you have to pay to swim in their pool. Absolutely rediculous!! We would have ordererd food and drinks, but after we were told to pay just to swim in the pool we just left.

Burger really bellow average. Bun is few days old. Cold french fries, meat without taste. I do nоt recommend burger here.

Probably the best menu I've seen on the Island. Good value too. Lovely setting, good music and atmosphere. You can't possibly go wrong here. A must do..

Very nice hotel/restaurant! I booked 4 nights in the villa with private pool and it was one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. The hotel is small and so cosy. The interior of the restaurant and rooms are very stylish. The food is really good (one of the best restaurants in Zanzibar), the staff is so friendly, clean rooms,…. Would definitely recommend this place!!!

Overall the food was very tasty (ordered some seafood skewer, despite being served rather cold) but none of the veggie smoothies were available and just one of the dessert could be ordered. Also no paper menu, only QR code to scan, which is sad for such a fancy restaurant. Setting was beautiful. Waiter didn't know much about the dishes but did his best and was very friendly. Having this in mind I would still come back as it's probably one of the few places on the beach there were you can have proper dinner.

I did not stay in the hotel. We went there for lunch and we enjoyed ourselves very much. Great views, great deco, great food and great cocktails at good prices.

Stayed at the beautiful Upendo, was impressed with from the minute we arrived. Theo made us feel welcomed and looked after us for our entire stay. He was a call away and always willing to assist. The Villa we stayed in was perfect, the food, drinks and cocktails in the restaurant was top notch Will definitely recommend 👌 #keithdlikes

Looks chill. Nice view of the Rock. There's a swimming pool but it's charged 20k daily use with sun beds. Don't be mistaken you can jump in without paying even for a quick dip 😂 We came for drinks and lunch. Not bad but not much impressed with the quality.

It was just 3 days in paradise. Upendo is a beautifull place where you can chill, walk on the beach, sunrise is amazing. We were staying on the villa with pool on the roof !! You can enjoy the terrace with the view on the Rock restaurant, use the bar.. The food is really really good, super rate for the high quality of the hôtel. Not overpriced. Thanks again to the staff who have prepared special dinner for my birtdhay. 200% recommanded !!! All was perfect.

One of the best dining experiences in my Zanzibar stay. Great location, beautifully designed. Such attentive service and deliciously prepared dishes. Highly recommended!!

I didn't stay at the hotel but the restaurant is very nice and affordable compared to similar places the the area. I had an absolutely delicious Pina Colada which was made with fresh pineapple and a burger with pulled jack fruit and cabbage and it was also very good. Great views as well!

Upendo Beach was such a fantastic place to stay when we were in Zanzibar. It is further away from the busier parts of the island which is exactly what we wanted for our beach downtime. We also were occupied with Kite Surfing and a fishing charter. Getting to places was easy and the hotel driver was able to take us there (for an additional fee). The restaurant and bar are also good. When organizing activities or if we had any questions, Geoff was an amazing resource. He was truly helpful in making our stay at Upendo Zanzibar amazing. Every workplace dreams of an employee like him.

Amazing spot for resting, chilling, walking by the beach, and watching the sunrise. We stayed in the villa with rooftop pool and it is the best option ever to enjoy and relax. Staff was extremely nice and welcoming, specially reception and housekeeping, we felt like home. Great stay!

Beautiful place with yummy food. I recommend this place over the rock. If you want to go the rock grab a drink there and then hop on over to Upendo for food. You will not be disappointed and you will have a great view of the rock. The service, atmosphere and food were all top notch! We will be coming back.
