This place welcomes its visitors with a warm hug, people are extra chill, fun to hang out with and friendly, food is great and the roofless bathrooms are just beautiful. Room service cleans perfectly every day. The houses are located in a tropical garden with huge trees, lots of shade, home of a solo ape that you can watch chill in the trees from your terrace. Electricity and WiFi are not always stable and the heat can get quite intense. We loved Sagando, many thanks to Ali, Ibrahim, Veronica and Christian who made us feel at home during our 10 days stay

Excellent relaxing place to spend your time in Zanzibar. Much more quiet and peaceful compared to the North of Zanzibar, really nice couches and bed swings outside and really close to the beach. This will for sure be a place i always come to when I am in Zanzibar🍹

Nice staff. But sadly had quite some issues. No electricity and water for half the stay and also no room service. Would give more stars if they didn't insist on the standard price despite the issues.

The location in Michamvi is beautiful, with pristine beaches and clean water. We went in mid-May and the weather was perfect. The place was nearly empty and it felt like we had the beach all to ourselves. The food was amazing! We are vegan and they not only made modifications to accommodate us but also reimagined the dishes to make them the best vegan versions possible. There were three adorable cats that would come greet us when we ate; they were very friendly, especially when we shared some of our meal (the little black cat likes chicken soup the best, we have heard). The staff were gracious and extremely friendly as well. They made us feel very welcome, and were happy to give us local advice for traveling. We asked if they had any fresh coconuts to drink from and the head chef proceeded to climb a 30-foot tree to shake down some coconuts for us. A delicious breakfast is included with every night of your stay, and the lunch/dinner menu is very reasonably priced. The room was spacious and well ventilated with a fan and lots of screens. The rooms are spread out nicely so we felt like we had a lot of privacy too. Lastly, we also took their Mangrove Tour and loved it! In the tour, we took a Dhow sail boat, walked through the mangroves, got complimentary fresh coconuts to drink from, swam in the ocean a little bit, and watched the sunset on our boat ride back. Overall, the experience here was phenomenal and I would recommend it to anyone interested in a peaceful, secluded getaway.

Super nice! Totally in love with the room, the ambience, the beach....the room is sooo cute and well decorated, the bathroom amazing...I'm in paradise! Does not matter at all that it is not directly in the beach, it is right behind and there are lots of beachbars you can get a beachbed from..even the really nice Hotel in front...

*The restaurant is 5 stars, my review is solely for the accommodation* I really wanted to enjoy my stay as this place has a lot of potential however it falls short in almost every aspect. I was due to stay for almost three weeks but left after 4 days because of the below issues. I gave them 48 hours notice before I was leaving and asked to speak to a manager before I left. I was told they would be there when I was leaving Monday afternoon, but they were not. I have reached out via the contact information reception gave me upon checking out, but have not heard a response in over a week to my emails or WhatsApp messages. Problem 1: Power. I get it, this is Africa and electricity can go out at any point. My issue is that we would regain power 5+ hours after our neighbors (who didn’t have generators either). 3/4 of my nights spent here we did not have power throughout the night. There is nothing worse than waking up drenched in sweat and not being able to do anything about it. I asked about it and every time they said the power is coming, the power is on now and problem solved, Hakuna Matata- only problem not solved and the power would cut out again a few hours later for another multitude of hours. Problem 2- wifi. The wifi, while free and technically available, is absolute trash. I was supposed to work while here, but legitamtely could not as the upload and download speed were both <1mbps. They do have three different WiFi’s across the property but none were good. I overheard numerous other guests complain about this as well. Staff: The staff was overall very nice but their motto is just “Hakuna Matata”. I asked for ant spray 2x because they were all over my room and both times was told they will bring it and never did. Also when asked about the power situations they would just say “this is Africa Hakuna Matata” / no worries. I felt very dismissed with minimal rationale about the power situation. Also when checking in, they charged me $90 more than I was due to pay because they did not subtract the deposit that I had already paid. Once I realized this, it took more than 30 minutes of showing my credit card history and booking confirmation to convince them that they overcharged me. Then they would not refund the payment to my cc (how I paid for the deposit and in person for remainder of stay), and instead gave me a cash refund spread out over the next few days when other guests would pay in cash. After transferring to accommodation in Paje for only a slightly higher price but with reliable wifi, a generator, clean ant free rooms, I would encourage people to look elsewhere.

A corner of paradise to discover the most authentic Zanzibar, away from the big touristic villages. Surrounded by greenery, the local-style bungalows of Sagando are an oasis of peace, 150 meters from a wonderful beach with exposure to unforgettable sunsets, one of the few beaches still untouched. The rooms are well equipped, with typical details, with a furnished terrace and with suggestive outdoor bathrooms, overlooking the palm trees. Resting on white sand, the Sagando offers hammocks and seats of all kinds in the shade of a lush green and in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Excellent cuisine and local fruit juices. Very kind and very nice everyone, from Ali, the owner, to the women of the staff, first of all Veronika. A dream stay, you never want to leave. Super recommended!

Sagando was our first stay of many on this beautiful island. The atmosphere there is probably the closest you can get to what the local bars feel like. The staff is very kind and always willing to help plan activities for on the island. As this is the more quiet part of the island during the week days you almost have a private beach even without the messiah trying to sell you souvenirs. Overall our stay was very pleasent and highly suggest to check it out if you want to feel the culture of zanzibar and like the relaxing sound of reggea (it's on during the whole day)

Thank you to Ali, Nicolas and Veronika for your kind hospitality during my month long stay at Sagando Villas. My room was clean, in good condition and with a good, refreshing cold water shower. Nicolas and Veronika offered attentive service and were very warm and welcoming. Breakfast is fresh fruit, pancakes or chapati, which is delicious. Dinner was also great and they offered options that suited a vegetarian/vegan diet. Sagando Bungalows is a short walk to Michamvi beach and one of the few places on the East coast that offer picturesque sunsets. 10/10

Great place to stay in this part of the island. Close to the beach Lodging a bit basic (no A/C, some units do not have a bathroom door...) but has all you really need. Tasty meals at the restaurant Helpful staff Has Wifi (but signal unavailable in some spots of the premises)

We ate at Sagando's two times and our experience was great. Food is delicious and the staff is really friendly. Definitely a good place to chill out and have some nice (and not too much expensive) food.

First, this place is great for many reasons - it's a bit strange to give 3 stars when rooms, service & location are all great. This is paradise for a budget traveler, especially if you vibe with a rasta sensibility (I mean values, not 420, though its probably ok here). The bungalows are hand crafted, beautiful & funky. The bathrooms themselves which are open air to the rooms are wonderful because it can be hot & we took 4 or 5 showers a day. The staff was friendly. The place was chill. It's also fine for families - there's drinking but it's pretty relaxed & we were there on New Year Eve. The challenges are - the food & coffee is fair - we went to other places for all our meals. The wifi is quite spotty - you will likely not receive it in your room - we got a good signal on the porch though. And because the construction is DIY, and its aging, you may find some of the steps are uneven. So it's food, safety & wifi that bring this down, but if the price is right for you & you don't need wifi, dont hesitate! The bathrooms alone are worth it.

Beautiful authentic experience. Small bugalows in the middle of a tropical oasis, full of lush trees, little monkeys, birds and gekos. The room was small but cosy, and the outdoor bathroom a real treat. Breakfast was included, mostly fruits and sweets, all delicious. Lastly, but more important, the personnel is super friendly, happy and helpfull. This place is forever in my heart. Thank you for everything ❤

Great place to stay. It was very clean and food was delicious. The atmosphere is so calm and relaxing. Staff is friendly and very responsive. Our hosts-2 lovely Swedish ladies were available at all times and helped us with some queries. Would recommend it to anyone who likes to relax and enjoys being close to nature.

Sagando has definitely become my favorite vacation spot. The food us chef’s kissed: tastes and looks amazing, having a big variety in sea food but also local food. The staff are very nice and caring, making my stay there very enjoyable. The room are clean and the beds have mosquito nets. Overall a great place to be at, would highly recommend! Thanks Sagando for hosting me!
