Went for day trip for snorkeling and was fairly let down. Visibility was an issue but corals seemed to be in really a bad state. Guides could have been more helpful in identifying marine life underwater to improve the experience. Island itself is nice but just did not live up to it for me..Day trip was expensive ...can't even imagine for what they are charging to sleep there. I would check on current conditions before going for a day trip as it seems to vary quite a bit.

This place is just incredible. I'm not easily impressed, but we are blown away. It's truly ecological with a compost toilet (which works perfectly fine), solar power and basins around the bungalow to collect water which is used onwards. You spend the whole day outside, breathing fresh air, sleep to the sounds of the ocean and wake up by the birds singing. In the evening you can marvel at the amazing coconut crabs. Only 15 guests are allowed on the island so it's all quiet and peaceful. There is candlelight dinner and breakfast/lunch with a view towards the sea. Dishes are fantastic local food with vegetarian options. The staff is super helpful and experienced, happy to satisfy all your desires. We are deeply grateful for this experience and especially want to thank Chagga, Hamza, Khadija, Coppa and everyone from the team behind the scenes for making our stay truly memorable! Asante Sana from the bottom of my heart for everything we saw (above and below water) and learned, we felt so much like home and every day was a new adventure. The coral park is fantastic and you will see more fish than you can count :-) Pictures can't even describe the magic, you have to feel this island and its reef, it's the most unique place. Therefore we only can recommend to stay at least 2 nights.

We went to Chumbe Island for 1 night and it was one of the best experiences in my life. The coral reef was one of the most beautiful in the world, the diversity was amazing and the reef was really healthy. The people are nice as well and the food was delicious. The price might be high, but it’s worth every penny. You get to be part of this beautiful project and get an exclusive look into the conservation of the coral reef. And the night was beautiful as well, at night the coconut crabs come out and they are quite mindblowing. I didn’t know these crabs existed, but I am really glad I got to see them. It was one of the most unique experiences of my life and I can’t wait to see it again in a few years to see the progress of the project. Ocker Stoop, 19 years old, from the Netherlands

Living like Robinson Caruso for a few days on a private island was magical. This small island has so much diversity and is extra special due to the limited number of guests. It’s peaceful, the food is wonderful, the snorkel is amazing and the experience was out of this world. 2 nights was perfect.

Chumbe Island is an amazing destination, whether you are staying for a night (or more) in one of their amazing eco-lodges or just heading there for a day trip. The snorkeling is great which is evident in the mission of the park-one of the few privately owned marine areas in Tanzania that depends on revenue from tourism to drive their conservation activities. The views from the historic lighthouse are breathtaking. You’ll learn a lot from the rangers who will lead you around the island’s forests as well. If you need some rest and relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of Stone Town, look no further than this 45 minute boat ride from town!

Such an amazing experience sleeping with the wonderful sounds of nature. May have been the best sleep of my life! Snorkeling was good — we saw an octopus! Reef sharks swimming just off shore — you can watch them from the beach. Coconut crabs also cool. We stayed 3 nights, and it wasn’t too long. Kids loved it also.

This place is exceptional. We stayed here for 2 nights, and it was one of the unique experiences of my life. The cabins are natural and comfortable, tucked into the forest close to the beach. The food was exceptional, with beautiful touches for evening meals (candle lit dining in beautiful spots close to the ocean). The staff were universally kind and engaging. There are activities organised each day, including snorkling on a pristine coral reef with great biodiversity, informative forest walks, and evening walks to check out the coconut crabs. There is also a lighthouse which you can climb, offering beautiful views of the island and of the sunset. The staff were even kind enough to offer us morning and night time snorkling, outside of the usual program of activities. In addition, Chumbe has genuine eco credentials. They practice minimal impact tourism, including composable toilets and water harvesting systems in each cabin. Profits are invested into training and education programs for local communities and students, raising awareness about environmental issues. All the rangers and staff seemed dedicated and highly responsible. I couldn't recommend this place more! Thank you Chumbe :)

I made a day trip here and it is totally worth it, though it is not cheap for 80 Euro a person. Anyway it seems to me the best off island tour in all of Zanzibar. The snorkling was nice, the food is good, staff is very friendly and you even get a hut to stay while you are on the island. It is really a lovely place. Though I would not like to spend an overnight here. It is an eco lodge with little comfort but a higher price.

100% would recommend, we stayed only one night as part of our honeymoon but in hindsight would have loved to stay a few nights more! Chumbe was definitely the highlight of Zanzibar for us (followed up by kiting and diving in Paje).

Great experience! Staff is friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed our day trip to the island Including some great snorkeling, delicious food and chilling on the beach. I would definitely recommend. The nature is so pretty, corals are amazing and you get to see some nice colourful fish, crabs and we were lucky seeing sharks and snakes. Thank you again for a great experience!

My husband and I spent 1 night on Chumbe Island on mid August. The weather is great, you don't even need to bring the towels but bring something to cover your shoulders as in the evening it's a bit windy. The staff is super friendly and welcoming and they pampered us with excellent local food and great breakfast. The accommodation is unique, there were no spiders or mosquitos, we slept like babies surrounded by the sound of nature. The compost toilet is nothing to be afraid of, I've smelled worse in Stone Town streets. They also provide you for free with sun hats, reef-friendly sunscreen, and local beach pareos (don't remember the names) and snorkelling gears. There are lots of organised activities (e.g. snorkeling, sightseeing from the lighthouse, walk in the jungle, night walk to see the coconut crabs) but there's also plenty of time to relax on the beach beds, wander around, or watch the stars in the night. Overall, one night on Chumbe Island is worth the whole travel to Zanzibar and the price is worth it, considering it helps support the local nature's sustainability. Thank you for helping the planet and building lifelong memories!

Visiting Chumbe and staying for one night was a dream. The island is breathtaking, the staff is lovely and knowledgeable, and the activities (snorkelling, forest walk and crab walk) were very special. The rooms make you feel like you are alone on the island. The commitment to the protection of the environment is an inspiration.

A conservation gem in the heart of the Zanzibari archipelago. The staff were lovely, the boat rides well managed and most of all, the island and surrounding waters pristine. If you want a to experience something different, minimalistic and pro-nature, Chumbe Island Coral Park is the place to be.

A slice of paradise in amongst busy Zanzibar. The rooms and shared areas are lovely and comfortable. Food is delicious. Activities are well run, really enjoyed the snorkelling.

Definitely worth staying at least one night. The island is completely isolated and clean. Only a few people that you will get to know during the day will be staying with you - enjoy peace and silence in the beautiful nature. Staff is helpful and flexible to your requests.

We had a great time in Chumbe and would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for something a little less conventional. It met our expectations and was exactly what we had hoped for! As the island is very small there really isn't much to do outside of Snorkeling and a relatively brief walk in the forest or on the other end of the island beach during low tide but that is why it's such a great place to really disconnect, relax and get in touch with the surrounding nature and appreciate the simple things. On our first day there, we were lucky enough to see one of the most beautiful sunsets we've seen. The bungalows are super authentic and adequately equipped and they are cleaned every day. As far as the food, the 3 meals per day included the full board package were truly amazing. The food was healthy, simple yet delicious – without a doubt the best food we had during our 10 days stay around Zanzibar (Stone Town, Jambiani/Paje, Mbweni). The staff is truly lovely, very professional, and always available.
