The complimentary bread was good, and nice environment. We Ordered the fish of the day and pork belly, the fish of the day featured a weird combination of flavors (grapes and pickled radish) it just felt mismatched. The pork belly was not as good as expected.

Mister D is a MUST VISIT when in Napier. It’s cool, funky and has a great vibe. The service is good, even while they were under the pump on a very busy weekend. The food; went for breakfast, and it was great. A quick watch out is that they don’t do scrambled eggs. Good Ciabatta toast, fried eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon was delicious, great coffee. The donuts - they are amazing, dusted with sugar and cinnamon they are hot and delicious. Tried with and without a ‘shot’ of home made flavouring to be injected into the donut. Both were amazing.

Wonderful food. A risotto can be a risk, but the duck risotto was magnificent. The fish was also outstanding, almonds vine leaves, just divine. The deserts superb. Is there anything Mister D doesn't do well? Don't miss it! Updated May 2022. Had the cheese balls, double baked soufflé and smoked fish cake. All superb, as expected.

I went twice , first For breakfast and other to lunch, I loved the options for breakfast, the gluten free toast is the best I ever taste! they had such amazing options for vegan/gluten free people. yesterday I went for lunch and for me the options were more restrict, I had grilled vegetables with chickpeas , it was really good and the only option for vegan/gluten free people. if you have food restrictions like me, I recommend the breakfast/ brunch. if you eat meat and gluten you’ll be in heaven. the place is charming, the staffs are friendly, I loved this place

Excellent food, service and atmosphere for dinner, had the roast eggplant dish - best vegetarian meal I've had in years. Dessert was just as impressive. 👍

We were recommended this place while we were in Napier. I would say it was one of the hardest ordering experiences I have had in a restaurant. Our whole group felt the same way. The waiter put a lot of pressure on us to order more than doughnuts for dessert, drinks were slow or wrong when they came out and the food was not spectacular. The doughnuts is a great concept and they were good and my boyfriend enjoyed his lamination. I wouldn’t recommend this place as there are so many other great places in Napier.

Had a beautiful meal here. Everything we ate was better than the next. Great quality produce, and good alcohol options. Staff were pleasant and chatty.. having a laugh with us. We didn’t have a reservation but we were let in on a last minute request, so very grateful as the meal has been a highlight of our time in NZ. One word, potato gratin!

Cheesy Eggs for her and the Smoked Fish Hash for me were the orders of the day - chuck in some extra toast, a couple of flat whites and call it breakfast. The place was busy but we'd come at the brunching hour so no surprises. Our server was Sara ... she had quite a big section to get through but she was quick and friendly. We ordered coffee, chose fiod and enjoyed the noise. There were a few kids and babies and large groups of diners. A testament to the quality of their food and service. Our meals arrived and I immediately had food envy and wished I'd ordered cheesy eggs too. My hash was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside with the perfect balance of smoked fish to potato - poached eggs and brown butter hollandaise it was delicious! The cheesy eggs were ... cheesy, gooey and everything I knew it was going to be. Thick pieces of sourdough toast to mop up the sauce and it all smelt divine. The experience wasn't without issue. My wife found herself chewing on a fairly decent sized piece of cling wrap probably used to hold the egg as it cooked. You only have to look around to see that the probability of this happening is rarer then hens teeth. Everything we saw coming out of the kitchen was consistently beautiful. Everyone around us had beautifully plated food. So the 5 stars isn't for the food which is definitely a Napier 'must go' you won't regret it and like us, you'll drop by everytime you're in town. It is for the service. Sara and Deepak - you were both amazing and we appreciated the care and professionalism you showed. Thank you

Went for breakfast - found it underwhelming and completely overpriced. The doughnuts were fabulous though so would suggest sticking to coffee and a doughnut!

Amazing food and amazing service! The steak was cooked to perfection - crispy tender and juicy - probably the best I've ever had!

Lovely breakfast on a recent getaway to Napier. Service was great and the coffee perfect. Waffle was light and delicious. Hubby had the smoked fish hash which he really enjoyed. My son had the corn fritters, they definitely needed more seasoning. I was a little disappointed that none of the eggs could be scrambled, which limited my breakfast choices.

Highly recommended for brunch. Service and quality of food was exceptional. We enjoyed the cooked brunch (rock n roll cooked breakfast, and avocado with feta), and the baked goods and coffee. Doughnuts looked very good too. No street seating, but spacious inside with a small outdoor courtyard.

We we’re pretty disappointed by the food we got here. $20 for two small pieces of toast with about a quarter of an avocado on top, with a sprinkle of feta. It was way overpriced and had my friend not shared her bacon with me (which cost her $7), the meal would’ve been very plain. The coffee is quite a dark roast. When we told our friends of the experience (who live in Napier), they weren’t surprised. The service was friendly, though.

We turned up without a reservation on a Wednesday evening and were fortunate to get the last table available. The food was delicious! Well presented, both food and restaurant, and an option for vegans too. Recommend a visit, although you probably should reserve in advance.

We came in for lunch on a Sunday and we were not disappointed. Our sever was attentive and exceptional. Portion size was medium. Highlights are the salmon salad and gurnard fish.

High quality beautiful food and service, worth every dollar you pay. Staff were attentive and accommodating, happy to add an extra Ox Cheek Croquette to my starter dish to make it a more substantial meal. Cocktails are yum as well and the injectable doughnuts are heavenly, with your choice of filling.

We dined here last week and had such a fantastic meal. We had the sashimi salad and pumpkin soup to start, I don’t know if it is because it is a quiet day or their usual, but the portions were MASSIVE - we probably didn’t really need mains, but I was very happy to have got the Gruyère soufflé - and forced myself to finish it because it was so good. My daughter had the eggplant thingy which is just a symphony of flavour and texture combo. They also served complimentary ciabatta. Great drinks options. Service was efficient and friendly. Thank you for a outstanding experience

Do not recommend the corn fritters. 3 deep fried balls of corn fritter with a dollop of bacon and nothing to tie it all together except some syrup. A token piece of lime for “colour” underneath it all. Could easily be made into a great dish, unfortunately was a sea of brown and uninspiring.

It’s good. Tasty food. Attentive service. Good choice of wines. We left comfortably full and satisfied. I’m sure you will too. The paua meatballs and the market fish are pictured.

Absolutely loved our experience, my father in law is a repeat visitor but it was our first time and WOW. We've been out a few times this year and Mr Ds was definitely top 3 experience, food and flavour wise. Every dish was perfect, the flavour, the texture. All our mains were delicious (we all had a try of each), the duck was crispy, the beef tender, the bone marrow ravioli was delicious. Absolutely recommend the salad and their in house vinegarette (we purchased some bottles as it was that good) and the octopus was so tender. The staff were all a delight, fun, and informative including the chef. Juliette was a star. Thanks again guys. Highly recommended

Lovely greeting and seating experience. Order taken quickly, and water kept topped up. Cute little pestle and mortar with pepper in it, a little bowl of salt. Entrée came out quickly, long wait between that and main. Not personally a fan of the parmesan shortbread, though my partner loved it. The fried bread was OK, but too greasy for me. The sashimi salad had an enormous amount of lettuce, and was tasty. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the cheesey eggs.

Recommended by a family member, otherwise we would not have proceeded to our table - shown to us by the rather surly waiter on a very quiet Sunday afternoon (only a few other tables occupied). Ordered coffees and asked by our waitress if we would like water - still or sparkling. Both types of water we assumed would be complimentary. The sparkling water arrived in a bottle - already opened, no lid. The coffees arrived - slopped in the saucers and no effort to get napkins etc to mop up. We were then charged $12 for the water when we went to pay the bill. We politely made the point the ridiculous priced water was not made clear to us when offered and it arrived already opened with no lid. The staff member we spoke to couldn't care less and we simply paid the bill and recommended they advise future customers they charge for water. We travel widely for work (nationally and internationally) and eat out more than we eat in, so this was surprising and disappointing. Compounded by staff apathy and attitude. Disappointing Mister D! Hopefully you can take this feedback more constructively than you did in person at the time.

Possibly the best meal I have ever eaten. The Paua and pork meatballs were astoundingly good. Superb service - great team. Very big meals. The 'snacks' were a meal themselves. Savoured every bite!

We took our posh UK based daughter for an evening meal. The food, service, presentation was superb. Miss Posh has been raving about it to anything who will listen. Really reccomend it.

Dropped into Mister D for breakfast and were delighted with the experience. The service is next level and the seating is well laid out with many choices. The meals are unique and we enjoyed our selection immensely while sitting under an olive tree in a private courtyard. If this is what is offered for breakfast I can't wait until we have a chance to go for dinner.

This place is so amazing, I ordered steak whilst my family ordered a plethera of food, and I can safely say that this food was divine. My beef was well taken care of, asked for medium rare, got medium rare, tenderloin was delicious. Staff are so kind and bubbly, they can make you smile and joke around whilst still being as efficient as possible.

Outstanding eatery. Delicious flat white coffee. Good service, friendly staff. If in Napier, I reckon this is the place to have breakfast/brunch. ++ You must try their donuts - to die for (didn’t last long enough to take a picture)

First time visiting and ordered a big breakfast and the smoked fish cake benny. Both items were decently portioned. The fish cake was my favourite, the fish was not too smokey and a squeeze of orange juice really complimented the flavour. The big breakfast was good but would of liked it if it has some greens to compliment the dish. Would come back again.

Stopped in to Mister D for a coffee and donut after hearing about their donuts from a friend. I was impressed with the friendly service, good coffee and the donut served warm was amazing. The food menu looked great and it was unfortunate that they were closed on Tuesday when I returned to have brunch. Regardless, worthy of 5 stars and the donuts are a must!

Had the avocado on toast which was a tasty breakfast but the portion size was tiny for $19. Two small pieces of toast and no more than half an avo across both. In saying this, the dukkah was real good and fit out is cool.

We heard about this restaurant and thought to try it while we are in Hawke's Bay. If you just care about good and awesome food, try their pork belly! Judging from what it looks, I thought it will be dry and chewy, however dont judge the book by its cover! The meat is so tender, the pork belly skin still crispy, their sauce had a bit of sweet+sour+salty+umamii.. so nice! They finish off their pork belly dish with perfectly cook veggie. The chef is very nice and personal. The table service and waiting time can be improved.

Very good food and service, and a restaurant to return to. The octopus dish was yummy. A big thank you David & Pru and their team! Great food and service. If I’m being very picky, it would have been nice for bread rolls to be warm and served with butter, rather than olive oil. But every dish we had was awesome.
