One of the most famous caves in nz and normally will pop up if you search for glowworms caves . It was a great experience and i will recommend to most of the people but few things before you get there . 1- The ticket price is 75 dollars and the tour supposed to be for an hour but we were done in 30 mins . This included a boat ride which will be the best part for most but it’s only like 5 mins . 2- They are very strict with the photos and videos so you can’t click anything . Only towards the end you will be allowed at the exit . 3) the cafe is nice and if you doing other caves , get your food here because others don’t have much option. 4) I found the gift shop ridiculously expensive but they do have lots of things in there . 5) Now most important part specifically for tourist and people visiting from far . I would highly recommend to take the combo package with ruakuri caves because the other tour is 90 minutes and has way more value for money . You are also allowed to use your camera there. Combo price (158 dollars ) From Auckland it will take you 2-230 hours to reach and the drive is split between highway and scenic route between little farms .

It was a wonderful experience especially for kids. Well guided tour with a sense of humour which is a bonus. It well be better if you gonna book at the center instead of calling them on their customer hotline number. Recommendable for family with kids. You can clearly see the glow worms inside the cave while riding the boat. Quite fascinating. No videos or camera allowed inside the cave.

What an amazing experience. We went not long after a terrible flood which sadly washed out many of the glow worms but there were still heaps to see and the guides who took us through the caves have come from generations of family members who originally found the caves and have been holding the tours throughthe gaves for many, many years. If you want any experience with caves and glow worms I highly recommend Waitomo Glow Worm Caves!

This place was highly recommended, so we headed to the place. It’s NZ$61 for a 45 mins tour of the cave and a short boat ride to view the glow worms inside the Cave. There are different packages to view other caves, which may takes between 2-4 hrs, depending on which package you chose. I was disappointed that photography and Videography is not allowed, as the advertisement (with a guy carrying a camera) was misleading. I thought we could take some beautiful pictures as memories, but I can understand why it is not allowed. Nonetheless, for those who loves nature on Caves and view the glowworms, it is certainly worth a visit. The Cave opens at 10am, and we managed to get the 10:30am ticket on spot. I think there is no need for advance booking.

Back here again after 30 years! The place is really different looking now. Very nice and neat. The Glowworm are just captivating like the stars inside a totally pitch black cave. Really beautiful to see. Oh... and the cafe's mochachino is nice!

Fun-filled filled experience! Family and friends had a very enjoyable time here. Very informative - the tour guide was well rounded and knew his job so well. Safety is always a priority. He even rendered a song for us - cool dude. Initially my grandchildren were hesitant and scared due to darkness however they totally forgot about it and enjoyed the adventure

It was really cool seeing the caves with my family and gaining some insight into the history of them. The experience was very well organisedThe boat ride felt very short especially given the whole experience was leading up to it. I'm not sure if our guide got lost; we basically ended up literally circling one chamber for maybe 2 minutes and that was it. Otherwise we had a great time and the glow worms was cool!

The tour was informative, the guide funny but the actual boat ride is short. The restaurant serves good food with reasonable prices. Parking is available. We had an unforgettable experience, one of our friends had an accident and no first aid was available.

Was a really great tour! The guide was terrific, had an amazing voice singing down in the caves ! Little tricky to get a night exposure photo in the glow-worm cavern, hard to keep the phone still on a boat!

They advertise as glowworm caves but they mostly show the limestone caves and they take us for the boat ride to show the glowworms. The ride is about 7 mins. But it looks nothing like what they advertised. Much less glowworms in the caves. They charge $75 per head whixh is too much for this attraction.

Highly recommended! There is a tour on the beautiful cave before the glow worms boat ride which takes your breath away. Tour guide is very knowledgeable. Do need to book in advance.

What a fantastic experience. The crew here is so knowledgeable and our tour guide also happen to be the descendent of the maori explorer. Its a must visit thing. It was nice and cool. Very safe for a 4 year old. Good thing no phones are allowed and u spend all the time absorbing the beauty of the glow worms like stars in the sky. Also has a restaurant and gift shop. Very well maintained with ample parking space. Pictures are allowed as u exit the cave.

Beautiful park and tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and had a beautiful singing voice. We took the short tour, which was great, but now I wish we'd taken the longer one

This was a great way to spend a weekend. My wife and I came during the off season and there were very few people. The country had only just opened back up after Covid, so tourism wasn’t booming yet. The caves were what you’d expect, and quite an interesting and enjoyable experience. The tour with the boat ride was cool (but no photography allowed) and the tour just up the road was even better (longer with cooler caves and photos allowed). The guides were all very knowledgeable and we learned a lot of semi-cool facts. Once is enough though.

It's a nice looking cave with the rear glowworms... Let's say if you're in that area you have to see it! Most likely after this visit it will not be the place you remembered that I need to see it one more time - was ok and had to see but that's it.

Had a great tour of the caves. Our guide “T” was really clued up, informative and funny which made the visit much more engaging! Thank you!

Must visit in New Zealand and in Waikato. World's largest glow worms and explained nicely by the locals. Beautiful limestone structures formed over several millions of years. Free parking at the site. Nice gift store and yummy food served at the Cafe.

Amazing experience with knowledgeable tour guides. Would definitely recommend stopping by here if you are passing through, and strongly advise booking tickets in advance.

It was an OK experience, I don't think it was worth the 4 hour round trip. The glowworms feature about 10 minutes of a 45-minute tour. Our guide had very little enthusiasm and seemed bored showing us around. I do believe she was in training, so hopefully, when she's more comfortable, she'll add her personality to her delivery. If you're in the area, it might be worth a visit, but I would have rather spent my time doing other things.

The caves themselves are not overly impressive if you visited some before. What makes it different it’s glowworms- luminescent insects living there. Tiny lights covering the ceiling of the caves make it really magic, especially during the boat trip. The overall tour is around 40 minutes and boat trip roughly 5-10 minutes. It’s pity that you cannot take pictures inside

It was quite an amazing sight inside the glowworm caves! First part of the tour, you learn about the limestone formation; second part of the tour is a roughly 10-min boat ride during which you see the glow worms. To avoid scaring the glow worms, you are not allowed to take pictures inside the cave. These glow worms are unique to New Zealand so if you are interested in the experience, come to New Zealand!

Loved the caves and learning about its significance to the Māori and its history. Guides (Uncle Moi and Stubbs) were brilliant and super hospitable. Overall memorable experience and visit we didn’t regret!

We enjoyed our tour of the Waitomo Glowworm Cave with Max. Criticism of the tour because of the quality of the rock formations and the length of the boat ride seem to miss the strengths of the tour. We received an overview of formation of the cave and Maori culture with a humorous approach from Max and seeing the glowworms at the end of the tour was a good way to finish but I don't think I needed to see any more. The combined ticket including Aranui Cave was good value and a substantial saving when compared to buying separate tickets for each trip.
