Arrived at this otter cafe after booking beforehand and immediately regretted my decision. The place was small and the pool provided for the otters was nothing but a large fish tank. The otters were let out one by one and loud shrieking could be heard from the back rooms as they were being forced to separate from one another. It was an extremely unsettling experience as I could constantly hear the high pitched distress calls from the other otters. Only one otter will be allowed out of its enclosure to engage with a group of around 8 guests and I barely got to interact with it. I am not sure whether these otters are given the proper care they require but I know that they seemed very stressed interacting with guests they have never seen before. I would not recommend this cafe to anyone and greatly regret supporting it myself.

The otters are so cute! It is different from a cafe, you don't get food, you pay for an hour of time with the otters. You can touch them, feed them, play with them, and take pictures! Depending on which otter happens to be in your time, one you can only touch the back, one anywhere is good. If you follow them on YouTube, you get a suverniour picture.

This place was very disappointing and a big let down. I should start off and say that once we arrived we purchased our tickets and had to come back at a certain hour for our reservation time slot. Once we came back we walked behind the counter and sat on the floor with a few other people. The place is incredibly small and the tanks are too small for the otters. I definitely regret going because I felt really bad for the otters. I wouldn’t recommend this experience even though the otters seem to be taken care of to an extent and seemed happy from what I could tell.

(Translated by Google) I'm a fledgling veterinarian. I'm sorry for the otter. Even though it is a waterside animal, you have to get it in to get into the water. I have no time to rest because I'm being touched by people. Since the food is handed over like a snack, I wonder if the amount is controlled. It seems that they are feeding cat food, but the salt content is high and it causes renal dysfunction. Drinking water often after eating food will make dry food boring. People can bring water and drink it when they like. And one clerk has a very bad attitude. It seemed to teach newcomers, but it's hard to see it in a tight way. That person holds an otter from beginning to end and rarely serves customers. If I try to touch an otter, don't touch it! I was told. Also, the female otter is separated by a glass door so that it does not approach the male, but when trying to close the door, the otter was caught in the neck and made a loud voice. At that time, I could see the sound of the vacuum cleaner driving away and kicking lightly with my feet. If you go to the male, it's hard to pull them apart. Because, contrary to what it looks like, otters are ferocious carnivorous animals. Since it is an animal with a fairly strong jaw, it will cause serious injury if bitten. If you like animals, you will find this facility poor. Then, find out about the river otter that lives in the wild. From a veterinarian who has no choice. I absolutely loved the experience. The otters are very sweet, playful and talkative. They remind me of my ferrets, just bigger and smarter. The staff gave us food to put in our hands and the otters eat it by picking it up with their hands, one piece at a time, and throwing it in their mouths. They are so soft and cute. The staff was very kind, gave very clear instructions on how to interact with the otters safely and clearly had a great relationship with the otters.

It's not a café because you can't drink anything, you sit WITH 11 OTHER PEOPLE in a circle and watch 1 otter being stressed out. When he starts biting his own feet, the owner calls it a "happy dance". I never felt worse about supporting a business. I'd never go again.

I have a very mixed feelings about this place. Outers are super nice and cute but they are separated from each other during the day when customers come to visit them. Yesterday it was clear that parents outers and their 1 y.o. baby badly wanted to be reunited, all of them cried but the show must go on. And I felt embarrassed sitting on the floor and feeding father-outer. O cannot understand why it is impossible to let outers be together during the day...

Had a great time here! The smell is strong when you walk in. Air purifier would be a nice touch. The otters are adorable! The owner of the cafe can speak English. It was nice to know all the otters in her shop are her pets and she takes them home at the end of each day changes them on rotation. We followed her YouTube channel too where she takes the otters out into lakes which is so nice that the have that sort of life.

this place is the best animal cafe i have been to so far in Japan. the otters are so friendly and sweet. the workers try to give you the best experience for your money (helping you play with them, letting you feed them, letting you give them water, playing with the toys with them, and if your lucky they will hold the otters for you so you can take a picture). one hour is 2000¥ (one drink is included) and it’s worth the price!

Loved loved loved loutre otter cafe❤️ Otters were amazing, loved spending time with them! They take really good care of them.. staff was really nice. Just note that there’s just one otter at a time, and i don’t know if there’s a limited amount of persona inside cause at one moment we were literally like 10 persona sitting and just one otter so you get te play and touch them less

+ Otters were cute. - As other reviews pointed out, otters looked stressed while being separated. Whichever one in the water tank would scream quite loudly whenever he/she sees the other otters outside the tank. The room were small and they seem a bit confined as well. - The otters were mostly minding their own business, which is fine but leads to a problematic side effect: the only way for visitors to have some playtime with them is to use food/treats as baits, which most of the visitors did as I observed, as well as the owner herself. I do worry this leads to overfeeding, especially on a busy day. One of the other reviews from a Vet pointed out the same concern. I will give the owner the benefit of doubt here and sincerely hope they pace the food with them throughout the day. - A bit pricy. Overall it feels like an unnatural environment for the otters. I’d rather visit them in a zoo with more open/natural areas instead. Felt bad for coming here.

The otters were adorable. They're very energetic and the woman in charge was helpful and explained everything about the otters so that no accidents would happen. You get to feed the otters, give them water, pet and play with them etc.

The otters here are so cute and playful, and filled with so much energy! They are fairly loud and the noise is off putting at first, but they are actually so adorable and interactive with the guests. Book ahead of time as they are strict with limiting the amount of guests, time, and space for the otters. Underrated spot compared to other “animal cafes” that do not seem to care as much about the animals’ well being. I continue to follow their social media and look forward to my next visit back!

This one was difficult. The otters were incredibly cute and the staff was (in a good way) strict on what was allowed and not. They also let the otters leave when they wanted to. Most customers were respectful, although there is always that one guy or girl who seems to struggle with the rules. On the other hand, the otters were clearly stressed, their water tank was very small and you could hear an otter crying in the back. You sit in a very small, bare room with some toys and it all feels forced and invasive. The constant circulation of people all trying to get their attention is probably also not healthy. In the end, I can’t say I recommend it the way it is now. Right now it feels like the staff prioritizes the customers experiences over the animals well-being, but it should be the other way around.

The otters are incredibly cute and the staff was very sweet. These otters are the pets of the owner and you get to feel the special bond between them. Preferably book in advance or pop in when they open up to book a time later that day as the place is quite busy. Well worth the cost in my opinion.

Must visit! Clean, affordable and so much fun. A dream of mine come true. The otters seem very well cared for. You can tell the owner cares about them a lot and they definitely love her. The otters are sweet and so playful. You can pet them, feed them, give them water from a bottle, and play with them. Owner speaks a fair amount of English as well. Loved this cafe, miss it already!

Otters are cute and energetic, they are very tamed and friendly! The shop owner is very passionate with her job, explains and demonstrates how to interact with the cute babies. The price is pretty fair , one hour 2000 yen, and there are timeslots you can reserve in store. Everyone in the session gets to feed and pet the otters which is really nice.

A fantastic place to visit. The otters are extremely well cared for and they are clearly very happy to play. The owner keeps her eye out at all times to ensure her babies are safe and enjoying playing and they can go to their play room to be away from people when they want to.

Otters are very cute, and their fur feels very similar to cats. A group will go in for 50 minutes. During these 50 minutes, you can interact with the otters. The staff will give you feed and water for you to feed the otters.

We had an amazing experience at this animal cafe. We got to feed and play with twin sister otters, who are not shy at all when they want something. These otters are the owners kids and you can see how much she cares for and loves them. A must if you are in Kyoto and love otters!

Yes, the otters are super cute. But couldn't feel at ease there... They are kept in a super small space and left to circle back and forth in a tiny water tank. They are separated from each other to perform in front of the customers, while clearly being in a state of mental distress... Worse than an animal circus... To avoid for the sake of the otters!

Great otter cafe in the Sanjo shopping center. The place is small so you can really get close to the otters. They are cute and very interactive. Just adorable. The owner is very attentive and cares a lot for the otters. We had so much fun. Definitely worth the trip if you're in the area shopping.

When I visited the cafe all the otters seemed well taken care of and the owner seemed to really love her otters. She explained that she had 2 Jobs prior to having the cafe. She had no time to properly provide for her otters. So she opened the cafe and quit her jobs to be around her otters more. She makes sure to rotate the otters out so that they don't get overwhelmed. She takes the otters home at night. She even had a youtube channel to show what they do outside of work hours. She seems to really love her otters and does everything she can to make them happy. While you are there she will show you the otters likes and dislikes. So you know how to properly pet them. We petted them very gently with 2 fingers as she showed us to. Other than that we watched them play until they took a nap. I would highly recommend this cafe!

After hearing the story of the owner and her pet otters and how raised them from little babies makes me so proud of her. The experience we had with six people was so pleasant we got to play with wasabi and age-chan and feed them snacks. You can tell that the owner really cares for her kids.

Looking for something unique I planned to go to Loutre during my stay in Kyoto. We were able to walk in around 5pm on Sunday and be able to use the cafe instantly. The otters all had different personalities, some were more shy and others were very playful. The staff were amazing, they initiated play but let the otters take over, occasionally giving us snacks and instructing us on how to feed these friends. I also noticed the great care and compassion they had for the otters. Some of the otters definitely had a favorite staff member, running to and curling up with them. They also knew much of the otter dynamics, pulling up a screen when certain otters were in the play area because they knew their sibling would be jealous of the attention visitors would give them. Overall a very nice place to visit if you’re a fan of otters, would highly recommend.

I went to a few different animal cafes while visiting Japan to mixed results. This was easily the best one. The otters were so happy and joyful to be playing with the guests of the cafe. The owner calls the otters her pets as she takes them home with her every evening after closing time and it really shows in how they act. It’s such a unique experience to be able to interact with otters and for them to be so happy about the interaction as well can make this a visit that you will enjoy and also feel great about.

As with most animal cafes, generally overhyped but overall a pretty decent experience. For people expecting to be able to play with cute otters, temper your expectations. They are very active and barely stay still other than eating from your hand or drinking water. There is a unique smell in the place so if your nose is sensitive I would advise against it. The price on weekends is 2000yen and was supposed to include drinks but the staff made no move to give us anything. Note that the drinks are bottled and in a fridge. Overall a decent 1 time experience but wouldn't recommend it to someone unless you really enjoy animals.

Perhaps the staff who were accepting were busy and tired, or they were daring and had low tension. It was a person I saw once at the Osaka store. I was scared and I was wondering if I should turn back, but I made a reservation because I was with a friend. When I entered the store, unlike the atmosphere I had just described, a very cheerful sister welcomed me, and I was relieved to gently explain the personalities of Odashi-chan Otsuyu-chan and Bob-kun. Like Osaka, you can also have rice and water! There was a store manager, and he kindly taught me about otters. Odashi-chan Otsuyu-chan has received discipline and was friendly and wanted to visit the store again, but it is not good that the receptionist who makes the first impression has a bad impression, so I will post it in order to improve it. Only positive takeaway was wrestling with the female otter 4 to 5 mins straight. Not highly recommended for children. There was not much interaction between the otter and the visitor. Two otters came and played with us for a while, and then they went to sleep a few minutes after. For ¥2000, it wasn’t really worth the 50 minutes. Nonetheless, it was a unique experience, but I won’t pay a visit there a second time.

There were 2 more behind the glass and 1 swimming in the water. There were also 2 babies in a small cage. Good place for a first date or a celebration idea outside the box. I would recommend not wearing your finest clothes as the otters are wet. Super fun afternoon would recommend. Be advised that this isn't really a cafe - you receive one bottled drink with entry. There is no food for guests. I would call it a play pen or petting date with otters.

Friendly cafe. You're allowed to pet the otters but not carry or grab.

Such a treat to be able to see and hang out with the five otters here. I love that fact that there are quite strict rules about do and don’t. And the staff are quite hands-on when it comes to do and don’t. The otters here seem really well taken care of (judging from their figure, fur and behaviour). The owner brings the otters back home every day and treats them like her babies. This is not your average pet cafe where animal welfare was sacrificed for profit. I do get the impression that keep the animals happy comes as a very high priority for the staff.

Going back through my videos from my visit to Loutre yesterday and still smiling. I went the day before to a cat cafe and it had left me feeling sad for the cats, so I wasn't sure what to expect at Loutre. It was a completely different story with the otters. The otters at Loutre seem happy and it seems that the woman who owns them really cares for them and gives a lot of time and love to them. It was nice to feed the otters and to spend an hour playing with them. They seemed happy to have new people calling in to play with and to feed feed them. It cost 2,000yen for 50 minutes, but I think that it was worth the money. I paid the same money at the cat cafe the day before and the experience had left me feeling sad

Run by a lovely lady who clearly loves her otters and makes sure they can leave the visiting area when they’d like and knows what each likes and doesn’t like in terms of levels of interaction. Also explains a little about each to us in English which was great. It sounds like she only brings a few of them to the cafe and rotates their days so they have plenty of time not at the cafe. Otters were really playful!

1500 yen for one hour and one drink. Otters were much kawaii. Many pictures were taken and many pats given. Place was clean and the staff were friendly. Otters were very active and playful. Would recommend.

(Translated by Google) There were about 5 cute otters in the facility. Playing with otters, actually interacting with them, feeding them, etc. Since there are other customers, I don't have much time to interact with them, but I was healed enough! At the end you can take a picture with an otter.

Interesting and fun experience. My first experience with otters: They have a LOT of energy. Especially the female named Wasabi - she makes the Energizer bunny look like a sloth 🤣. The guide distributed food pellets to the guests who sit on the padded floor. The otters use their hands to grab the food and put it in their mouths. They play with toys and interact with the guests. Two otters play in a tank in the room while the interactions go on on the floor. A second otter (male named Oaage?) wasn’t as energetic as Wasabi but he was perhaps more interactive. The otters are so stinkin’ cute! Ppl who complain about the price (¥2000 = $14.00) need to get a life. Also, if you don’t want to see otters in non-native habitat, don’t come. I am no expert but during our visit the otters seems playful and happy.

Really cute and well trained Otters as as well as a very kind and sweet owner who can speak mild English. Be prepared for a wait sometimes as the room is quite small and can only fit a few customers. Please remember that these energetic Otters are wild animals and do not act like your usual cats and dogs. To be able to touch and interact with the cute little otters without them freaking out and tearing your hand off is an amazing one of a kind experience only done so by the care of the owner and her hard work itself. The otter enclosure is quite small but im sure they get to return to a more bigger space to run around in after work.

Great experience feeding and playing with the otters. We were hesitant at first because of a few negative reviews we saw but are glad we went to see for ourselves after. The otters seemed to be very well taken care of. We could barely get a picture of wasabi because she was so full of energy running from person to person grabbing snackies and playing with toys. The other otter was more relaxed and very attached to the staff that were there. He kept trying to cuddle with her and nap but it was good to see that they love their caretakers. There were another two otters that we didn't interact with, but that was because they were busy making babies.. which they were not shy about. Lol. If you hear weird noises it's probably from these lovebirds.
