[Spanish original below] Reservation recommended for groups of 5-6 people, if fewer you can fit into the bar. One of the best dining experiences during our Japan trip. Without any doubts stopping at Uemura café was a complete success. 10/10, food is fully organic farm to table. The owner, which cooks along his wife, mixes Japanese traditional cooking style and flavours with more western recipes with an outstanding result. We were able to taste the hida beef Curry, which literally melted in your mouth with an amazing richness. For this plate we were given spoons since there was no need to cut or force the meat, it was like cutting through butter. Also talking about the curry we can just rate it as top quality and flavourous one. It's a Japanese style curry with more sweetness to it than you would find on an Indian curry for example, but still super tasty and flavourfull. On top of it, we ordered the mixed meat hamburger, this time it was deer and wild boar along some vegetables from his own farm. Possibly one of the best burguers we've had in our entire life due to the original flavour and the juiciness of the meat. Last but not least, we couldn't leave without ordering one more plate (even though we were already full) because once you see "Carbonara with wild boar bacon" you can not let that escape. Once again, total success, we've all had roman style carbonara and we agree this one has nothing to fear from it. Made with only pasta, egg yolks, wild boar bacon, parmesan cheese and a strong black pepper touch. An amazing ending for an amazing dinner we all five really enjoyed the most. Thanks to our hosts for allowing us to have such an amazing experience and gifts us with a great memory in both culinary and personal level, we'll keep it in our trip. Arigato. Arigato.

Saw some online reviews that Cafe Uemura operates on a reservation basis only. We saw the food photos though and decided to take a chance. (He later told us that he does take walk in customers but prefers online reservations to ensure that the ingredients he prepares doesnt go to waste.) We arrived a little after 20:00 and were greeted by a warm, friendly smile. We ordered their Wagyu Beef Curry as my wife and I have been craving for curry for the past few days. Plus, since the Hida area is famous for their beef almost made it a no brainer. We were given an appetizer with local organic vegetables and some Hida Beef. The Wagyu Beef Curry was, simply put, the best japanese style curry dish we have tasted. The sauce was very flavorful and the beef was very soft to the point that it could be sliced with a spoon. Satoshi mentioned that the recipe was passed on from his grandmother and mother. Satoshi also made us a very tasty corn soup which he mentioned was made of corns from his farm, milk, and salt. It was so tasty that I decided to forego the spoon and drank it directly from the bowl instead. Overall, the food was really good but what made the evening more memorable was Satoshi. He regaled us with some personal stories as well as why he does what he does. He also gave us a taste of what he believes is the best Sake in the area and it didnt disappoint. Satoshi shows what a man who does his own farming in the morning and cooking at night can do. It was truly a wonderful experience that makes us wish we booked more nights to stay in Takayama to try his other dishes. If you are ever in Takayama give this Restaurant a try.

An absolutely delightful experience from beginning to end. The chef thoughtfully prepared each dish with love and kindness. The restaurant is cozy (maybe the smallest in town!) and it makes the experience all the better. Food is fresh - simple, tasty, and delicious. Two of us are vegetarian and he accommodated our needs. Highly highly recommend- but make sure to make a reservation!!!

Cafe Uemura may be small but it has great atmosphere. Not only is the food delicious, you may be surprised by the conversations you'll enjoy if you feel up for conversing with other patrons. Ishibashi-san speaks really good English too, so don't be afraid to speak up! He is very proud of the fact that his vegetables are home grown and the restaurant was built by his own 2 hands (he's also a carpenter!) I enjoyed the Hida Beef Japanese curry, stewed for 6 hours to perfection served with the best rice in Japan, grown by his neighbour. I've recommended Cafe Uemura to all my friends and will definitely visit again if I am ever in Takayama again. Thank you for having me Ishibashi-san!

I have only had beef as good as this twice in my life (of 60+ years) - at very expensive steak restaurants! It was melt-in-your-mouth quality. A pleasure to meet and chat with Satoshi who is extremely passionate about farm-to-table cuisine. He grows 120 different types of vegetable on his farm and travels 1.5 hours each way to bring his organic food to his restaurant in order to cook for his guests. We had fresh asparagus picked that day. It is not a cheap meal but worth treating yourself to this special experience!

Fantastic little shop. Seats maybe 6 or 7 at most. The master is a great man with a lot of curiosity about where you're from and what brought you to Japan. He's a very nice and fun person. If you're interested in learning about local sake and great home cooked food then stop here. Try the curry, it's fantastic. The drink selection is great as well.

If I could give this restaurant 6 stars I would. Six of us showed up (and he only has 6 seats) and we had a wonderful meal and conversation. The owner/chef has such passion for his food and presentation. He grows much of what he cooks on his local organic farm (it was mushroom season when we were there ...mmmm ) and told us all about the area. It was an amazing evening.

It was a delicious vegetarian dinner for us and such a nice little restaurant with the warm & kind hearted from the organic farmer & restaurant owner. The vegetables were fresh and very tasty. The price was reasonable compare with the quality of food we enjoyed. Thank you very much for the nice and fun conversation with the restaurant owner Satoshi.

Amazing experience all around! The food was excellent and the chef (who grew all the vegetables at his farm) was a delight. Couldn't have asked for a better meal! Would recommend to everyone who can get a seat at this small, but stupendous restaurant.

We had a great dinner tonight and an amazing food and cultural experience. The wagyu beef steak was amazing, very tender, and the sake tasting was very unique. We also got know more about the background of the dishes and ingredients. The chef prepared the menu using local vegetables and family recipes, it was fantastic. Great food and wonderful presentation, I can only recommend it. Hint: its good to make a reservation via instagram or google.

If you're in the area, then please visit this restaurant. Satoshi-san (chef+farmer+host) speaks English and is very friendly. Typically a reservation is required as the restaurant seats 5 (maybe 6?) people max. I didn't have a reservation, but Satoshi-san accommodated me (for which I'm grateful). The food was delicious, grown locally on Satoshi-san's own farm, and cooked using traditional methods without additives or preservatives. This was one of the highlights of my trip!

A small and quaint (6 seater) restaurant which is a must visit. The experience is unparallel and the food is insanely fresh and tasty. The owner is friendly and his dedication to his restaurant is amicable; he lives a hour and half away! Words can't describe the experience and thank you for having us. We would definitely come back and recommend tour restaurant to our friends and family.

Amazing gem of a place! The food is incredible (all organic and grown by the owner) and we had the best beef sukiyaki EVER! Only 4 seats so be there or be square. Worth a visit to Takayama just for this!!

We had a delicious dinner at Uemura — the chef (and owner & farmer!) was super friendly and the food was incredibly delicious! We had the Japanese beef curry, wagyu steak, and sukiyaki — all were great. The curry and steak were especially good. Definitely recommend! You must message on Instagram to make a reservation — it only seats 5 people. (He can do vegetarian dishes if you book in advance I think.)

As with the other reviews I absolutely loved this. The chef is very talented and clearly passionate not just about the food he cooks but also the produce he grows to use. As a result the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh. After 31 years off living I've never had a potato so good! All of it tasted great

What a fun and unique place. The owner is so friendly and open to chatting in English. He grows all the produce himself and has two vegan options He even offers a gluten free cake! The best Japanese curry I’ve had in japan. Highly recommend for vegans and non vegans alike! The appetizer was also vegan and very delicious. Only downside was the ¥500 cover charge though it technically covered the soup.

Excellent food. Excellent company. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this cute lil place. We requested a reservation through Instagram and were able to get a spot the same day (on a Tuesday). We were lucky as we later found out that Satoshi, the Chef, only cooks for about 8 people per night. Satoshi sent us a menu and requested our order through direct message on Instagram because he collects the ingredients from his own farm to cook each night! Such a unique farm to table experience. We ordered the beef sushi, steak/ veggies, and the curry. Everything was absolutely amazing! We were blown away by the food and the service we received. We definitely will be back the next time we are in town!

If you can get a reservation (contact via Instagram), you will not regret it. The food cannot be beaten for freshness and flavour and the host is a wonderful human being. Very accommodating for vegetarian diets (although my beef curry was possibly the greatest thing I've ever eaten). Thank you for a memorable meal!

All round perfect experience for our last dinner in Japan! The fresh organic vegetables directly from the chef’s farm and locally produced products were delicious. We loved the concept and chatting with the chef, the cosy atmosphere, it is an unforgettable memory that we will cherish for a long time. Thank you again so much

Wonderful organic seasonal food served by the gracious farmer/chef himself in this intimate restaurant. It was a joy to be able to eat, talk, laugh and learn so much during our meal. Our youngest son even finished all his salad without prompting - for the first time ever!!!

Amazing cuisine prepared by Satoshi, who uses vegetables harvested from his own farm in his beautifully crafted dishes. Sake tasting was excellent and our son enjoyed the fresh strawberry smoothie. We had such a great time at his restaurant, and hope to come back next time we are in Takayama!

My friend and I stumbled across this little restaurant as were walking around Takayama and decided to book via Instagram after looking it up on Google. It’s a small restaurant with a seating of 4 people at a time, 8 people per night. Satoshi, the owner, tells us that he harvests all of the vegetables himself from his farm 1.5hrs away daily for him to use at his restaurant. We ordered the wagyu sukiyaki course which included appetiser, wagyu sushi, tempura and udon noodle. We also ordered the wagyu beef curry with rice. Everything tasted delicious and fresh, especially the sliced hida beef in the sukiyaki - it was melt in your mouth delicious! If you’re in Takayama and you’re looking for a cozy restaurant with good food and a friendly owner, I would highly recommend Cafe Uemura!

This was by far our favorite dinner in Japan so far. Great conversations with chef Santoshi and an amazing vegetarian plate as well as the Hida steak and sake. This is a farm to table concept and you have to book via instagram but you’ll be charmed by the cozy atmosphere and kind hospitality. Don’t miss it when in Takayama!

Mr. Satoshi is not only an organic farmer but also an amazing chef. We made our reservation 3 months ahead and ordered an Omakase dinner. It’s really an enjoyable experience I’ve ever had. He made different Japanese dishes for us. Sashimi, sushi, ramen, dumpling, yakitori, tempura, sukiyaki, beef steak and Japanese cheesecake were all in our course. He has a great passion on cooking and tailor made the menu for us. It’s a must try experience in Takayama. The restaurant can only serve one party at one time, so better make reservation before going. Thanks Satoshi San for your hospitality!

Cafe uemura, an exclusive amazing experience from beginning to end. The chef thoughtfully prepares each dish and explains the origins of each ingredients. It only serves 8 lucky people daily. Meat was out of this world!!

Superb experience with my fiancee at Uemura's place. By luck we managed to get two places without prior reservation, although I understand it is highly recommended doing so as most of the supplies are gathered from his own farm :) Not only our hida beef with organic vegetables and sukiyaki were amazing, but the environment and entertaining chat with Uemura-san were outstanding. Definitely would return to taste other dishes!

🫤 Don't bother with this place, it is overrated. Parking outside and toilets inside. Seems very clean and the food was actually really good, but the service was slow and at exactly 3pm we were yelled at (and so we're other people), to get out as they were closing. We arrived at 2:15, took 10 minutes...
