There is always something mesmerizing about the sun rising over a horizon. Typically it is a special time to sit, reflect, and sip your cup of coffee. Sunrise marks the start of something new…a new day, new plans, and a new adventure. My sister-in-law tagged along with me on this early morning adventure. I figured there would be other photographers at the Grandview main overlook. I just didn’t expect it to be a full house. When you google the best place for sunrise at New River Gorge National Park, Grandview is the place most mentioned hands down. So my sister-in-law, me, and 30 other photographers were crowded on this overlook waiting for the sun to make its appearance. I’ve been to the overlook for sunrise pictures when it wasn’t crowded. But during the fall…on a weekend, chances are you won’t be the only one hoping to catch the sunrise. Parking is fairly close to the main overlook. And if you are lucky, you will capture sunrise on a foggy morning.

Such a beautiful place. Only a few mins off the highway and easy to find. Just follow the signs and you can easy find your way to the main overlook. Very clean and not so isolated you feel like your going to end up on a milk carton. If you are passing through make sure to put this on your places to stop. You won't regret it.

This is one of the must see sites for the New Gorge National Park. This is one of the two places that we went to see inside the park. The other was Turkey Spur which I would also highly recommend. This is easy to get to by automobile as it is right off of WV 9. It has a large parking lots, several trails, restrooms and a visitors center. The visitors center that was not open when we visited. The overlook is about 300 feet from the closest part of the parking lot (the eastmost part). It is a sloping walk down to the overlook across a very nice sidewalk made from large stones. When the stones are wet, it may get a little wet so please be careful. There is also at least one trail leading off from this walkway to the south (right as your headed to the outlook). The overlook has a wooden fence/railing and a 2 tiered viewing area. The upper tier has an informational board showing where the various sites in the park are. It is an excellent view of the New River from 1400 feet above the New River. I highly recommend this to my fellow visitors in the area for its beautiful view.

Plenty of parking. Small Visitor's Center with nice staff and small selection of merch. The swings, playground, sports fields, and bathrooms were clean and OK. As a picnic location, there are plenty of tables, but lots of gnats in the spring. The Overlook is short walk from the parking lot. I also HIGHLY recommend the Castle Rock Trail!

Sunrise here is amazing. Be sure to get there early as a lot of people go and set up their cameras. Small short easy walk to get to overlook.

When you can stare at a view for 2 hours and still not be bored you know you have found something special. There is a little visitor center with limited hour open. We took a 4 hour drive to see this and other things in the area but this is worth it on its own. Plenty of trails to experience around the area as well. Entry was free but not sure if they charge during their busy season which is summer.

One of the best views in the National Park. Also one of the two most photographed things in the entire state of West Virginia. Good thing about it is that it is not on a hike. It is only a short 100 or so yard walk from the main parking area. Great to see even if you have limited mobility issues. Well worth the view and aptly named.

The drive was a bit off the beaten path but well worth the time. We arrived late in the day and had the entire overlook to ourselves. The overlook was easily accessible and was just a short hike from the parking lot on a paved path. The view was magnificent and probably one of the best in The New River Gorge National Park. The parking lot and facilities were well maintained and clean. It is a must see.

Wonderful look at the park. Easy to get to the main overlook but there are also a number of trails that branch off that vary in difficulty. I went on the castle rock one and it was fun and stunning.

This is so beautiful and majestic, I can see why the park is named Grandview. We will be going back in the spring when everything is green. They also have a handicap accessible platform here.

Very nice!!!!! Little nature center and bathrooms available. Playground and picnic tables too. It was a very foggy morning when we were there so the view wasn't great. We will visit again with better weather.

Very nice sight. A few different lookout points. There is no ugly views of anything that has mountains or water! A few deer were captured. Looks like Mom/Dad and a couple of fawns. Beautiful! The world is so majestic with so much to offer! Wish we all took better care of it?

If you are around the area, please do visit and hike around the trail. I didn't have time to hike the trails but still stopped by the main overlook, Turkey Spur Overlook and the north overlook. This place is full of Rhododendron, so if you time it around the peak bloom, that will be the best moment for your entire life.

So beautiful and so green. We had a great time exploring this area of the National Park. The overlook was breath taking and cave hike was loads of fun. Anxious to go back when the effects of the Canadian wildfires are less evident.

This place is gorgeous. Photos could never do justice to the beauty of the vista. I visited here on a day with light rain and the view was still awe inspiring. The relatively short journey off the main highway to the overlook parking is worth the detour There is ample parking and the scenic view is a short hike from the parking lot. The area was clean and well maintained. There was also few other visitors one the day I stopped here, but that may be attributed to the weather.

Beautiful scene here and definitely worth the trip over to it! I know this is called Grandview and this is the main overlook but the north overlook in my opinion is even more beautiful but both are fantastic and you should definitely go to all of them! And be sure to go on a day that's not foggy!!
