Another great historical place at Nalanda. The museum is small but it has stored all excavated artefacts, statues etc from Nalanda Ruins site as also other historical places of Rajgir at Bihar. A must must visit. Tickets rates are low (Rs.10.00 or Rs.20.00 per head) and museum is well maintained

Nalanda University was established to emulate the ancient university of Nalanda, which functioned between the 5th and 13th centuries. The idea to resurrect Nalanda University was endorsed in 2007 at the 2nd East Asia Summit by the sixteen member countries.[4] In 2009, during the 4th East Asia summit, ASEAN member states including Australia, China, Korea, Singapore and Japan promised further support.[5] The State Government of Bihar handed over land acquired from local people, to the university for its new campus.[6][7][8][9][10] Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar also met External Affairs Minister SM Krishna to receive reassurance that the Central Government would allocate sufficient funds to the project.[11] The architectural design was chosen on the basis of a global competition.[12][13] The jury consisting of architects including Liu Thai Ker chose Pritzker Prize laureate BV Doshi's firm, Vastu Shilpa Consultants as the winner of the design competition.[14] The firm dbHMS provides the triple net zero energy, water and waste strategic plan.[15] Original concepts associated with the project included "advancing the concept of an Asian community...and rediscovering old relationships."[16] and "acting as a bridge for students in different parts of Southeast Asia".[17] The university has been envisioned as an international institution of national importance[18] and excellence.[19] It began its first academic session on 1 September 2014 with 15 students in the School of Historical Studies and the School of Ecology and Environmental studies. A hotel operated by Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation in Rajgir provided initial hostel accommodation.[20][21] Initially set up with temporary facilities in Rajgir, a modern campus spanning over 160 hectares (400 acres) is under construction with over 80 percent having been completed by 2021.[17][22] The university started functioning from its 455-acres new campus from January 2020.[23] At least 200 villages surrounding the university will be attached to the university, reminiscent of the old Nalanda.[24]

Nalanda museum is a great place to understand the previous glory of the ancient Nalanda Mahavihara destroyed around 1193. The museum full of the artifacts found from the Nalanda ruins. Apart from the artifacts we can see the technology that they used at the time of Nalanda. There are Buddhist, Hindu and Jain sculptures inside the museum and most of them show the glory of the ancient Nalanda.

    (Translated by Google) Nalanda University is discussed. The remains of the ancient Nalanda University can be seen even today, about 120 kilometers south-north of Patna, the capital of Bihar. This university was founded by the Gupta period ruler Kumaragupta. There were so many books here that it was not easy to count. Books of every subject were present in this university. Bihar was a stronghold of Buddhism. An Ottoman general, Bakhtiar Khilji, was sent to demolish this stronghold. Nalanda is made up of the Sanskrit word Nalam + da. In Sanskrit, 'Nalam' means 'lotus'. The lotus is a symbol of knowledge. Nalam + da means lotus giver, knowledge giver. After the establishment of the Mahavihara here in chronology, it was named 'Nalanda Mahavihara'. It was the most important and world-renowned center of higher education in India. Along with Hinayana Buddhism, students from other religions and from many countries studied in this center of Mahayana Buddhism. Here not only religion, but also politics, education, history, astrology, science etc.

The first thing you should do when visiting Jehanabad is head to the Barabara Caves, 25 km from the city center. These are basically seven caves, also known as Satgarva, built by Mauryan King Ashoka I. The caves were built for the Buddhist monks living in his kingdom, and today, continue to be a popular Buddhist shrine. Located in a hilly area of Jehanabad, the views from here are beautiful, and the caves themselves are inspiring, to say the least. They were built using monolithic, hard granite, with the interiors polished to perfection. The design and architecture of these caves are an example of the exquisite skills and fine craftsmanship of the workers of the time. A visit to these seven caves would be quite an eye-opening experienc

Founded in the year 1971, Nalanda Archaeological Museum has excavations from Rajgir and Nalanda, an ancient university and a monastic complex.  There are around 13463 antique items here, out of which 349 are displayed in the 4 main galleries. The archeological items that were found from Nalanda can be traced back between 5th to 12th centuries AD. However, those brought from Rajgir are even older. Museum consists of sculptures and statues that are in stucco, stone, terracotta and stucco though majority are in Basalt stone. Images and paintings found here belong to Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism. The main gallery has 16 sculptures including Buddha in Varad, Samantbhadra, Bhumisparsh posture, Trailokya Vijay, Maitreya, Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, Nagaraj, Samantbhadra and Parshvanath. On the entry gated of the central hall, a scale model of Nalanda remains is installed.  The first gallery has 57 sculptures and images out of some of the important ones include miracle of Sravasti, Goddess Laxmi, Lord Ganesha, Buddha in varad mudra, Vaishali-miracle, Surya, Heruka, Marichi, Rishabhanath and Shiva-Parvati. The second galley of Archaeological Museum in Nalanda houses 147 assorted objects made including inscriptions, stuccos, terracotta and iron implements. Some of the displays that are worth mentioning here include stone inscriptions of Yashovarmana, terracotta seal saying Sri ‘, Nalanda Mahavihariya arya bhikshu sanghasya’, fragmentary tablet of Nidanasutta, stone inscriptions of Yashovarmana, Dharmachakra, terracotta tiles with swastika, charred rice samples and Stupas with peepal leaf motifs. Another noteworthy display here is a multi-spouted pot that points out towards serpent worship in Rajgir. The third gallery houses 93 bronze specimens including those from Hinduism as well as Buddhism. There are images of God Surya, Lord Ganehsa, Lord Vishnu and Indrani, Kamadeva, 2 Buddha images in boon-giving and earth touching posture, a Buddhist temple, Bodhisattava padmapani, Loknath and more.  In the fourth gallery , there are around 36 images and stone sculptures comprising of Lord Vishnu, Marich, Padmapani Bodhisattvas, crowned Lord Buddha in preaching pose, Kinnaras worshipping kalpadrum along with others. There is a separate shed in the museum that has 2 huge jars (belonging to 1st century CE) that were found in the monastic complex at Nalanda. The other possessions include bronze and terracotta items, images, copper plates, pottery and stone sculptures
