This is a simple place that does falafel, what makes one place better than another? Good Falafel and friendly service and we had that here. There are options for gluten free or whole-wheat pitas as well as the usual - I went for the wholemeal and it was good as was the contents.

One of the best Falafel spot in Tel Aviv. The food is fresh with good quality, and very tasty. You can wash your hand at the sinker in front of the shop before eating.

One of the best Falafels out there!! 2nd time this week, and this 1955 establishment def delivered it every time. What a great gem, and a gluten free option for those of you who are allergic/intolerant. Best potato chips, for those who eat gluten. Kind people, and a great service!

Amazing falafels! It was my first day and the owner kindly helped me with all the coins I had accumulated. Wonderful experience and food that deserves the high rating.

I'm gluten free and I couldn't tell the difference from regular pita. Awesome food all the way round.

One of the best falafels in the city. Very friendly, tasty and fair quantity. It is missing some more places to seat though.

Pretty good Sabich sandwich, in my Israel-Poland trip, this was my only Sabich sandwich I tried, should have tried more! If I come back, definitely will go back to this place! (I did this trip back in 2019 and I was planning my 2ns trip to Italy and I saw a local sandwich in Puglia that looks similar to Sabich! Puccia! Just reminded of me of this place) You know it is good if you an still remember eating it!

Great falafel sandwich. It’s huge so you better come hungry. Very nice service as well. The place is small but had no problem sitting.

Its Israeli street food that is 100% gluten free. They made my falafel in a separate fryer. I really enjoyed my gluten free pita and falafel.

I visited this place after having seen some blogs about best falafel in Israel and I must say it lives upto it’s reputation. Travelled to Israel with a bunch of friends and we visited this place on the first day of arrival and we all just fell in love with the crunchiness of the falafel. I would have wished if the menu they have was in English, but as the staff speak English it’s fine. I had falafel pita, they have some really nice and spicy sauces. Falafel was so nice that I bought just 10 extra for snacking ;) They don’t have huge indoor seating but there are benches in front of that place. We visited just one last time before heading back to home. I would highly recommend this place if you are a falafel lover.

A pure comfort falafel pita that comes with fried potato slices. It’s the milder, yellow-brown falafel that isn’t as herby. They have a spicy sauce on the side that added a real kick to the sandwich. Clearly felt like a long-standing neighborhood operation run by kind, nice people.

This is my favorite Falafel place for more than 30 years. Besides being the best Falafel in Tel Aviv (IMHO), they have full separation for Celiac, so my two kids can safely enjoy the dish- you can call in advance for Gluten free Falafel and save the waiting (I enjoy it anyway)... Besides, they are very noice and friendly.

The gluten free falafel is absolutely incredible. The place is friendly, hospitable and buzzing with locals - one has been coming for fifty years! Johnny Jnr is a lovely man. My favourite place in Tel Aviv

Amazing falafel, pita, and Israeli salad, coeliac safe and prepared in a separate kitchen👌👍 Probably the best gluten free falafel and pita in Tel Aviv! So much for the European pioneers of GF — this yumminess has been happening here since 1955! 😋😊

    The best falafel in Israel!

  • 5/5 Elena 1 year ago on Google
Insanely delicious falafel! Chewy, slightly sweet gluten-free pita bread as if made by your grandma. The wheat pitta is also mind-blowing. And the falafel is just addictive - beautifully golden (not brown), crispy, perfectly seasoned (not too salty)… The hot sauce rounds it all up. Just add more fresh coriander & grated carrots inside of the bread please!

Turns out falafel is not my thing but that doesn't deny the fact that the food was great! And they are very good with gluten free!

  • 5/5 Melanie M. 1 year ago on Google
Very careful with gluten free - separate prep area for gluten free falafel and pita. Best gluten free pita I’ve had in Israel. Tasty!

Owner of the shop just said to me as I arrived, “Just tell me what you don’t want in your pita and I make you something yummy” 🧆 🫓 And he wasn’t joking - this is seriously yum 🤤

By far the best falafel I have ever tasted. The combination with the potato chips, the sauce and the pita is absolutely amazing. And all that for a very affordable price. The guys behind the counter are very friendly too. I will definitely be eating here again.

Best falafel in Tel Aviv, everything is home made including their amazing pickles. The banter with the owner is equally good.

Just as good as it looks. Very tasty, and generous. One was more than enough in quantity, but it was so delicious that I took another one to go. Great service with very pleasant and smiling owner. Thanks for all your explanations. Happy 65 years in few weeks advance end Good luck for the next 65 years! Sure I will pass by if I come back to Tel Aviv.

Must visit when in Tel Aviv. While the shop front leaves a lot to be desired, this is all about the quality of the food and condiments. All food is made fresh to order. You simply cannot go wrong.

Best customer service I’ve ever encountered! We arrived a bit after opening hours and probably looked a bit disappointed because of that. The lady who was about to close up the place was despite that incredibly helpful and served us the best gluten-free falafel (including bread!) that I’ve ever had. The deep fried potato chips thingies are amazing!

Johnny Banin’s never fails to deliver, with in my opinion the best falafel in the city. Beyond this, Johnny is so nice and always stops to talk. I constantly bring my friends here and they all agree that is the best falafel they’ve ever had. Definitely go here if you’re considering, it’a also super cheap!

Excellent Gluten free falafel and pita— best I’ve had. Separate fryer and incredible care taken to ensure no cross-contamination. Really excellent spot— don’t get intimidated by the size and busy-ness when you arrive.

For sure the most delicious falafel in tel Aviv. Been there two times and will go there later before my flight.

Gluten free falafel in a gluten free pita was a serious treat for us. Our 11 year old daughter was able to enjoy her first falafel sandwich and I had my first since my celiac diagnosis many years ago. The falafel are a bit more pale than the typical falafel. They are, however, every bit as crisp and delicious, especially when paired with the fresh salads and creamy humus and tahina. I ordered mine mildly spicy, adding another layer of complexity to the meal. I will definitely return for another treat of this traditional Israeli street food before my return to the US.

This is a very good place! Me and my girlfriend were going to visit it as I'm gluten intolerant, and, during our walk through Tel Aviv, found out that we're nearby. I was really impressed by the taste — it's a great falafel! Moreover, the gluten free falafels are produced separately to avoid cross-contamination, which is the best option for any place that makes gluten free food. I strongly recommend this place to anybody despite of their tolerance or intolerance to gluten, as there are regular falafels. I also really liked the owner, who, answering my question said (the menu was in Hebrew, and I asked what did he have): — I have falafel, falafel and falafel. Which one would you like?

Omg,I really didn't expect that !from outside it doesnt look special but if you eat this falafel,(so natural btw)you will not forget this place. discovered by accident ,one of the best in whole israel!thanks so much to the lovely staff and owner

We had a great chat with the owner, Johnny Jr. (not his real name, nor was his father - the founder - really named Johnny). The falafel was fantastic, and the fries (chips) were great too. He told us that they haven't changed the recipe since 1955, which one customer who claims to have been coming since 1956 verified. Apparently the falafel balls have always been gluten free, but they started serving gluten-free pita about 12 years ago because a young girl who was a regular there was diagnosed with celiac disease. Our friend, who doesn't eat gluten, had the gluten-free falafel in gluten-free pita and said it was great. I had a regular pita, and loved it. There are definitely cheaper falafels in the area, but this is very good bang for your back. It rivals some of its more expensive competitors on taste, while beating them on price. Highly recommend.

It can be difficult to find authentic and safe food experiences while traveling with celiac disease. Johnny's is it! The food and experience were incredible and the owners were so kind. Absolutely love this place.
