The recently renovated National Museum of Ghana offers a captivating journey through the country's rich history, spanning different eras and showcasing significant events and artifacts from diverse regions. While the tour guide's delivery may have lacked enthusiasm, visitors can easily access detailed information on the displays by scanning barcodes with their phones. Overall, the museum provides a visually stunning and worthwhile experience that is highly recommended for exploration.

We went to the National Museum today, and it was really interesting and a good Sunday activity (especially since many markets and activities are closed on Sunday)! They recently renovated and reopened a week ago. A free guided tour was included in the price, which definitely was a huge plus. It’s mostly an anthropological history of the country, plus some beautiful artwork and overview of current traditions.

Good good museum to know the dated history of Ghana. Its people have such a diverse and long history; great to see how they have remained together despite their diversity. The museum and its guides are well and courteous.

I had heard about the museum being open to the public and so I decided to go check it out. This museum is located in the bubbling vibrant heart of Accra, entrance fee was 25Cedis…you get a briefed on the museum’s concept and collection but that’s about that…you don’t get allocated a guide , you get to move around on your own viewing artifacts. The museum was recently remodeled so it is quite appealing with the lights and the spider web decor hanging in the middle of the space, there are things to see with detailed information provided on each piece of item. It’s a really cool place to be if you would like to know about the rich culture of the people, or you’re one to just explore public places…kindly check this place out if you’re ever in Accra.

Not yet open as of the time of visit. Was informed that it may be opened in the last quarter of 2018. There's a sculpture garden in the compound that has some relics that is still accessible for free while the main building is still closed for renovation.

Amazing artifacts to show the rich Ghanaian culture. Staff are helpful and courteous. Had a lovely time there and it was such a fun way to know about the history of our motherland. I loved the spider web and the echoing effect it had under there.

The national museum of Ghana is such a historic place to visit. The place offers both pictorial art and views as well as written history. The tour guide gave us an extensive overview and vivid explanations which was very educative. The place is neatly and well organized with great and historical information. I had the opportunity to ask questions and also I got the information I needed. The place is a must visit as I was intrigued by the echoes of our voices when we talked. There’s a shop that sells African stuffs, ranging from bags, fan, slipper, apparels etc. They also have a restaurant that offers meals as well. Suitable for all ages, especially school goers to know more history of the country. I highly recommend this place for visitors.

Christmas day, no cashier, no staff, only one guard who takes our money (80 cedis for me, a foreigner, and 20 for my local driver). No receipt, no ticket. He puts the 100 cedis (about 8 US$) in his shirt pocket and walks away. On the way out he asks me to write my name not in the guest book but on a separate piece of paper. The small museum is nice and worth a visit, provided the visitor knows that entrance fee goes to the right place.

I really enjoyed this museum. It has lots of interesting artifacts to view, and the guide was very knowledgeable about Ghanaian history. I really enjoyed viewing the art by Peter Jojo Abdallah. If I'd had a way to get it back to the US, I would've purchased several pieces. They are beautiful. I'm not sure any under the age of 18 or so would necessarily enjoy this museum. But any adult would love it.

I explored the National Museum in Accra on a Friday, eager to delve into our Ghanaian cultural heritage. Located across from the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, the absence of clear signage led me to inquire if I had reached the correct destination. I entered at 9:10 am after paying an entrance fee of Β’20. The museum showcased artifacts illustrating Ghana's rich cultural history, spanning themes such as early hunting tools, funerals, puberty rites, clans, and religion. The exhibits included both genuine archaeological findings dating back centuries and replicas of valuable items. The tour guide provided a well-articulated journey through the depths of our history, making it a worthwhile experience. In about 30 mins, we were done with our tour of the place and the highlight for me was the outstanding spider web art that hung like a canopy over our heads on the ground floor. There's a spacious car park and an eating area. It is also child friendly.

I actually visited here in 2003 and it was mostly a bunch of dusty glass cases with hard to read descriptions and not terribly impressive at all. Now, however, it's a bright and shiny set of displays that looked great with clear, prominent descriptions to accompany them. Awesome improvement, definitely worth a visit.

The Museum of Science and Technology in Accra was established when two lecturers from the Legon Campus of the University of Ghana, identified a need to create awareness of past and current developments in science and technology in Ghana, and presented a proposal for the development of the institution to Kwame Nkrumah, the then president of Ghana. A short time later, in 1965, the Museum of Science and Technology opened its doors. The institution endeavors to inspire those who visit, particularly its more youthful guests, with a desire to discover more about the sciences and technological development in the world around them.

I went here with a group who was traveling from abroad. All we found at the address was essentially an empty building that was slowly falling apart. I am not sure why this is being advertised as a museum since it hardly had any actual exhibits. I was very disappointed. I wish it was just closed until it was in decent shape.

Very little science and technology. There ground floor was entirely devoted to art and upstairs there were only four glass cabinets with three items in each. One of these was a microscope, another a tape player. There was very little of educational value. The saving grace was a decrepit traction engine outside where someone with in interest in steam boilers could see the internals through the gaping holes

The museum has been closed for the past few years. As of August 2021 you will not be able to visit. I rode down here only to find that it is closed despite what Google Maps says. I do remember it being quite good when I visited in 2015.

The National Museum Gallery is one the best Traditional and Cultural Heritage museum in Africa 🌍 location in Accra, Ghana. The place is categorized into different department of collections: *** Presidential Collections (lots of gift items donation by president to the museum) *** Currency Collections ( from the Oldest Currency πŸ’²πŸ’΅ in Ghana to the new one). *** Chieftaincy Collections of Akan Northern region. *** Africa 🌍 Kitchen (how a typical Ghana Kitchen looks like) *** Stone Age *** Herbal Collections *** Painting Collections *** Settlement collections *** War Dresses *** Spider (Star Object) *** Car Collections ( it's all bullet Proof car Collections of some former Ghana President like Dr Kwame Nkrumah, JJ Rawlings, Kuffor etc) Visit the place to understand Africa 🌍 Traditional & Cultural Heritage.

This was probably the best thing I saw in Accra. I highly recommend a tour, as they are super informative, and you will immediately start making connections to practices if you are part of the diaspora. Like we learned about how kings present what kind of king they are by hat placement; to either side they are peaceful. To the back they are always moving forward. Straight up, they are serious. Made me think of people wearing baseball caps backwards and visors to the side. Also, removing your hat to greet a person respectfully came from this practice. Amazing tour.

I have been pleased with my experience at the recently renovated National Museum of Ghana. You will be asked to pay an entrance fee. From the entrance to the top , you will navigate through multiple type or arts, objects that are going to teach you a lot about the ghanaian culture and so on. I felt lucky and empowered to have experienced , not me alone but with my family , such a nice tour. Give you a try.

You can easily spend an hour here although the tour was roughly 30 minutes. You will learn a lot about history and culture. The museum has a gift shop and a restaurant on the premises. You can continue the tour on your own outside where there are various statues surrounding the facility.

3.5/5 I learned a lot during my visit to the National Museum of Ghana. It was interesting to see and learn about the country's history and culture through various exhibits and stories. Our guide was amazing, and we learned a lot about Ghana's history and culture. However, the museum was uncomfortably hot, and there was a lot of information to take in. It would be helpful to have more written information or an audio guide to help visitors absorb everything at their own pace. Overall, the National Museum of Ghana is a great place to learn about the country's history and culture.

Very closed as of Feb 2020. Construction was in process and the staff mentioned a possible re-opening in March 2020, but that sounded too optimistic. Everything was boarded up, and even the sculpture garden was filled with trash, and many sculptures were broken. The National Museum is one of the treasures of Ghana, as it preserves the history and culture of the land, they were all so beautiful to see and I particularly liked the echoing effect under the spider web right at the centre of the hall .πŸ€—πŸ₯³πŸ˜†πŸ˜†. They have very courteous staff and the lady in charge was so generous and thoughtful πŸ™πŸ’•. When you visit Ghana, don't forget to visit the National museum .cheers

Recommend the incredible docents for personalized tour taking you through early ages of development of Ghana, its extensive historical geopolitical trade and influence, rituals and architectural examples of various faith and regional groups. All arranged in circular fashion along points of the Black Star at its center, key theme heart and soul of the nation, like Marcus Garvey and WEB DuBois rolled in together. Included video, large panel displays and variety of artifacts, engaging for all ages and accessible. Very interesting and informative, great to orient to understand the country and culture. This and Bisa Aberwa Museum in Sekondi are a must do for those seriously interested in learning about the people and cultures of Ghana.

Throughly enjoyable experience. Extremely informative. Guide very knowledgeable and humorous.Relaxed atmosphere. Sign posting bad. Needs to be advertised much more. Hidden gem. Lots of parking. Got there around 4.pm Thursday in January. Not very busy. Staff very friendly. Nice small gift shop. Didn't see a cafe. Would be nice if they sold cold drinks to the side. Didn't visit the wash room so can't comment on that. Please visit.
