Visiting Jamestown has been on my list of things to do for a long time. It was everything and more than I imagined it would. We stumbled on a visitors information centre and went on an impromptu tour with our tour guide who took us through British, Portuguese and Dutch Jamestown. Our guide was a well informed resident of Jamestown and among the places he took us were the 1st hotel in Ghana called Sea view hotel. Well, what's remained of it. The Ga settlements, the chief's palace. We got the chance to see the women dry and smoke the fish the men had brought back from sea, even saw a group of men making boats from scratch. It was amazing! We also visited a well known boxing gym where future world champions trained at. We interacted with so many amazing people and I think regardless of me being Ga, I would've still connected with these people. It's a tour worth taking!

It would have been amazing to explore this historical place, but once we left our taxi, local "guides" jumped to us and they were very pushy and very rude. They didn't allow us to go downstairs too. Maybe one day this will be amazing place to visit, but not now. I will add pictures to show "reality", because some of the pictures looks nothing like this place, it's extremely dirty. It's a historical place, it should be kept better and respected way more.

Sadly this place changed for the worse. The Chinese have overrun the place and relocated the local fishermen. Sadly the original historical values have disappeared and replaced by Chinese companies

Jamestown, still is the way it has been all this time, Tradition is still deep rooted in the people, Their characters have not change over time like how other communities have. Their buildings are still what it was from time. Less renovations. indigenous food is cheap, The women like alcohol and carnivals, they love partying

Bit of a dump to be honest. This is an amenity that is very much underutilized. Cant go up the lighthouse which is a shame and the area is very dirty around it. An actual rubbish tip behind the lighthouse. Its a shame as this is an interesting sight to see and the local government should really tidy it up and invest in the area as many tourists come to visit this lighthouse...........what a waste. tut tut. Was offered an hours tour of the lighthouse and to get the local history but declined as I couldn't see the point of spending an hour here. 20 minutes max and I was gone.

I'm a bit disappointed with the reception at Jamestown lighthouse. Unlike other tourist sites, this site has no proper stuff or tourist guides, no stated fees, its a bit disorganized. The light house on its own looks amazing but the people in the community seem to take advantage of tourists. I'd advice no tourist should go there without a local. The Ghana tourist board must put this tourist site in order and make it more attractive and receptive to both locals and foreigners.

Excellent landmark in a lovely neighborhood worth to experience - during a day! Photographers - be aware to arrive in the evening with somebody local you know or trust (taxi driver would be fine). Around sunset place is a bit "uncomfortable". Within 20 seconds of my arrival I was surrounded by "certified" local photographers who were claiming to have the rights for photographing with tourists and very loudly arguing, that Lighthouse can be photographed ONLY with a special government issued certificate (yeah, right!) After several banknotes were exchanged, this has not been case anymore. But honestly, I have traveled many places alone, and this is not a place I want to be alone in the evening. So again - plan your trip during a day or come with somebody you know. Truly beautiful place!

The Jamestown lighthouse is located in the Jamestown neighbourhood of Accra, Ghana. The 28-metre structure was originally built in the 1930s, replacing an earlier lighthouse that had been built in 1871. It consists of a stone tower with lantern and gallery, attached to a keeper's house.

Iconic monument on the coast of Ghana's capital precisely Jamestown one of the ancient settlement of the whites during slave trade. Now a tourist site. The lighthouse's iconic nature has jamestown really a popular place and its unique red and white painting make its stand out. Jamestown is predominantly known to be a fishing community the fish and the women sell. Its a tourist destination any fun loving person would love to visit trust me

A colourful township with really old buildings that were built in the colonial era. You can find kids playing football at the roadside and others playing basketball on the basketball court just behind the lighthouse. You can find graffitis on most walls in the township. You should definitely check out Jamestown CafΓ©.

I have visited the light house several times and gone up the tower. The view from up there is beautiful. You are able to see the outline of Nlegshie Manche palace and as far as salaha market. On 26/June/2020 when went to the facility, it was under renovation, trenches have been open all around it. I was told the caretaker it has electrical faults and some internal structural problem. Hope it renovated soon. Its a beautiful experience

This is not an area for tourist. As soon as we got out of the Uber we were followed by a random man. Luckily a local told the man to leave us alone. We did not go to the lighthouse - the area around it seemed dangerous and we immediately left.

What should have been an insightful trip, turned out to be ruined by pushy, intimidating and harassing locals. The lighthouse itself is closed for refurbishment... You aren't allowed to take photos of it and if you do you will be fined (there's a notice up and people are watching.. Apparently it's against the law). We wanted to have a look around, but we were constantly followed by "wanna be" intimidating local people, saying that we must have them there for protection as it isn't safe and something bad will happen to us if they aren't there. It's sad to see how much the area has changed over the last 7 years as it wasn't like this in 2012. It's such a shame as I wanted to share my knowledge and the history with my partner. Hopefully things will get better and not worse when we return next year!

Among the interesting architectural highlights of Accra, a visit to the James Town Lighthouse is not a high priority. The view of the coastline of Accra from the top of the lighthouse is interesting but it makes you aware of the poverty around James Town. It would be good to have a better organization around the visits to avoid well-intentioned people offering to help you, but they actually end up making things more complicated.

You will get a great view of Jamestown here. The guide will give you brief history of Jamestown. He probably will demand donation by the end of the tour - he has certain expectation of the amount and will say the amount is too small to get more money from you. Also, local guides will ask for money if you want to go inside the town.

Lived in jamestown for a month back in 2017 when there was jaynee streetwise orphanage on the beach! Sadly they demolished the orphanage and now the Chinese have taken over that place, not sure what for though! The government should take a closer look at Jamestown and maybe help clean that beautiful beach up a little bit as it would be a great tourist destination if only it was maintained a bit more! Jaynee streetwise at least brought people over to Jamestown from around the world it wasn't as dangerous as people had told us it would be..The lighthouse was nice but be careful of the people around there..they seem to lie about going inside or taking pictures etc.

Historically, right opposite the light house is SEA VIEW HOTEL the first ever hotel in Ghana which has hosted the Queen of England Queen Elizabeth, has now been brought down, in rebuilding of a church which i think is not right in my opinion. Apart from that JAMES TOWN BRITISH ACCRA is really fun in tourism having both JAMES FORT AND USHER FORT on same stretch and beyond 🍻

Right after we got off taxi, there came a local guide called Nice One, who offered to show the lighthouse and other points of interest in Jamestown for a donation to the local school of 100 cedis. So far, as we agreed for an excursion, it turned out that you can only see the lighthouse from the outside. From outside, it did not have any remarkable things to describe or photo. Just a lighthouse.

Watch out for scamming 'touist guide' . Go as part of tour Group preplanned, but stay away from guides hanging out there. Could make more of the lighthouse potential. Very dilapidated.
