It was a nice experience and an exciting moment. I got to learn about the various types of Monkeys, the history behind the Sanctuary, how monkey's are able to burry themselves when one of them dies. And I learnt they can live up to approximately 25years

PS:Buy some bananas before coming here! It is a must!!! True Mona monkeys in their natural habitat..you can’t hate them I promise . They are so beautiful and they love their bananas. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and told us all about how they survive, their life span, leadership in the sanctuary, and the tree that looks like a giraffe. I have fun feeding them too. After they had the bananas, they posed for phots with us..some fed their infants, others did splits ,and others just stared at the cameras. Totally fun!!!

Tucked away in the village of Tafi, this beautiful and untouched sanctuary is home to over 2000 monkeys. The guide was not able to tell us the breed of monkey, but they are friendly, curious and always hungry. Haha. It costs about 25gh for entry for locals and I am sure it would cost more for international tourists. You can purchase bananas at the reception or before you arrive. That is the only way to lure them out of hiding. They would immediately come to you and grab the banana from your arm, which is an exciting experience. Its a great place to enjoy nature and wildlife at its purest.

Entry fee is 20ghc per head (adult), you are taken through the vegetation where you see the Mona monkeys, alligators and few snakes. There is a lot to learn, and don't forget your fruits. Would come there again. Loved it.

Another reason why anoyone should visit the Volta Region to see the Mona Monkeys (at the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary) with some bananas of course😁😁 The Mona Monkeys are mainly found in West Africa between Ghana and Cameroun. According to Sammy our tour guide,9 these species are harmless but are only friends with you when you have food for them🤣🤣🤣🤣 They move in groups with a leader " grandpa". A new leader will have to fight the current and win to qualify to lead the group. When there isn't water or food in the forest, the leader takes the group to the community and makes sure they get water and/food. At about 6.30pm, leader calls everyone with "hum, hum, hum, hum" loud sound and brings them back One interesting tree i saw was the Ficus parasite tree.... it engulfs a plants to parasite chlorophyl since it cannot produce by itself. This causes the host plant not to grow well and eventually dies. When the host dies obviously the ficus tree also dies

The welcome is fine. The monkeys can already be seen in the parking lot. The forest is quite nice. There are only chilled drinks, so bringing your own bananas is cheaper

Very natural experience. Unfortunately several of the monkeys refused to come out because there was a funeral with very loud music in town - which we were told scares them away. We however enjoyed our time with the few monkeys we saw. The tour guides are also very sociable

Tourist guides are friendly, ready to converse and the site is clean too. As for the monkeys too, so friendly and will climb you once you've got bananas. Nature is nice here

The monkey sanctuary at Tafi Atome is a very interesting place to visit. You are offered a rare opportunity to interact with the Mona monkey species incidentally the only species at the sanctuary. They live in colonies of about 150 each. My guide told me that their ancestors were led to their current location from Assini in Western Ghana. That is why they are protected and also regarded as gods

Such a great experience! Having mona monkeys sit on my arm and peel back bananas tightly held in my hand was just awesome. They're friendly and don't scratch nor bite you. Guide was very knowledgeable. Forest is beautiful. Take some bananas with you and enjoy the ride.

The reserve, as we were informed is home to over 1000 Mona monkeys. The tour essentially involves a walk through the reserve, calling out the monkeys at different spots and feeding them with bananas. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the monkeys, the history of the reserve and how the sanctuary is intrinsically connected to the people of Tafi Atome. He was also calm in feeding the monkeys, which helped us to be at ease to also feed them. The monkeys will climb onto your hand or shoulders and feed on the banana in your hand by peeling off the skin and taking out the food. They don't bite and their paws/claws are soft, meaning you don't have to fear a bite or a scratch. There is a washroom to use and a water reservoir with a tap to wash your hands after the tour. There is a mini shop where you can find dresses, beads and wood crafts. There is also a market in the township where you can buy some farm produce.

Our tour guide Sylvester was good and gave us a brief history of the place and the monkeys. He made it easy for us to feed the monkeys. This place is being run by the community so all the money they take goes to the community development. Coolest thing I have done in Volta.

Monkeys play by size in the monkey kingdom. These monkeys will only come to you when you have food. Full video on my Youtube channel

A lot of monkeys in the village. However I feel the fee is too much. They also make you purchase banana from their stands for the monkeys aside paying for the fee and I feel, with the amount they’re charging it would be nice if they can add some few bananas to it.

Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary can found in the Volta Region. The Sanctuary hosts about 5 colonies of Mona Monkeys 🐒 headed each by one alpha male known as 'Grandpa'. The monkeys are found in their own natural habitat and are super friendly with tourists. A guide from the tourist center will take you through the forest where each colony lives. The forest itself is a sight to behold during hiking. You will be forunate to see hosts of butterflies, millepedes and different tree species. All you need are bananas 🍌 and you are good to go. The center sells Kente sashe, crafts and a whole lot.

The Tafi Atome monkey sanctuary is a very awesome place to visit. The monkeys found here are the Mona monkeys, and they are so friendly, especially when you have bananas 🍌. All you have to do is hold tight onto the bananas, and they will jump and climb onto your arm to eat the banana. Once the banana is gone, tgey jump off until you are holding another banana. A tour guide usually accompanied you to the forest after you checked in at the reception, paid all the needed fees, and bought your banana. At the reception, they sell African clothing, bags and some wood curving which you can buy as souvenir. Upon return from the forest, it is mandatory for you to wash your hands before leaving the place.

The sanctuary has a lush greenery environment. Upon entering the sanctuary, I was greeted by monkeys, checking to see, if I had any treat on me. I had the opportunity to feed the monkeys. I watched in awe as the monkeys displayed their natural agility while reaching out for bananas 🍌 😅 My visit to the Monkey Sanctuary was nothing short of magical. The opportunity to witness the beauty of these monkeys up close, and the chance to feed them, left an indelible mark on my heart. If you are a nature lover, I recommend visiting this monkey sanctuary.

Went there around 13:00 on a hot day so the monkeys were hiding. My guide tried hard, walking me through several different places calling for the monkeys. Eventually only 3 showed up and they gave me a refund. Not their fault but a very honest response so I still gave some to the tour guide. Great place but I suggest visiting early in the day.

I'm not gonna say a whole lot except you HAVE to get this experience! Better than any zoo I've visited, though a zoo wouldn't technically compare. My only piece of advice is to tightly hold the bananas—I promise the monkeys won't harm you.

The receptionist needs training on how to relate with visitors/ tourists, the guides on the other hand are more friendlier.

I went on a 3 day tour of the Volta Region, and the Tafi Atome monkey sanctuary was definitely the highlight of my trip. The monkeys are honestly really gentle so nothing to be afraid of. My guide took great photos, and he was very knowledgeable about the village and the moneys! 10/10 would definitely recommend.

Visited in 2010. Fun to interact with the monkeys (if you had a banana) and interesting to learn about the local population shifting from hunting monkeys for bushmeat to preserving them for tourism income. Sustainable development.

Very friendly heritage rare monkey species living in their natural home. Feels great to interact with nature🌱👌🏽❣ So relaxing and therapeutic. The monkeys even come to live with humans from time to time, before giing back again. You never regret tanking a walk through the forest. 🌱🐒🍌
