The Shia Hills Resource Reserve was established in the year 1962, covering an area of 42 square kilometres but now 51 square kilometres. The resource reserve is located in Doryumu in the Shai Osudoku district. It was made a game production reserve in the year 1971. This protected area was home to the Shia people before they were ejected in 1892. For the activities, I knew which ones I planned to do and for how many hours so that was easy. That is the museum, the zebra farm, the ostrich farm, the mogo hill and the snake farm. For an entry fee of 29 cedis for an hour I knew I needed another hour which was 6 cedi. I advise you to pay for 2 or 3 hours if you want to have a good feel for the activities. We were informed that the hill was a 7-kilometre drive to the 2nd entrance of the reserve. We drove to the entrance, showed our ticket, and made our way to the hills. Without a personal car, you have to bargain with any of the taxis parked outside the park to drive you to and wait to drive you back. A costly trip. The hill also serves as a site for tent camping. I know I will be doing that on my next visit. The last activity was a trip to the museum. We had less than 20 minutes to end our tour. It had a lot of relics and artefacts. the place also has a library full of research and tapes. Thinking of tapping into the adventurous side of you I suggest you try their tent camping for 100 cedis or stay over at their guest house for 50 cedis or the ultimate luxury stay in their luxury tent I experienced, enjoyed, and loved every bit of my time at the reserve. Make it a point to visit soon and ask the general. There are washrooms on sites and a restaurant and drink bars . Go visite soon

This place was the highlight of my trip to Ghana. If you spend just one day in Ghana visiting here, you’d have the most amazing one day trip. Well reserved and protected. The mountain climbing is an experience to look forward to. The gate fee varies depending if you’re Ghanaian or non Ghanaian. I almost forgot our tour guard. Amazing man. He takes the best pictures and videos too.

Amazing Forest 🌳 reserve with amazing forestry and wildlife staff protecting it. Well mapped out routes, constant patrolling team on the watch for poachers and a place you’d love to go see some wildlife in their natural habitat including baboons, deers, antelopes, etc. A place I’d recommend anyway anytime to go see.

A very nice and tranquil experience. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and his pride in the history showed. He took time to answer questions and was very easy to talk to. The baboons were for sure the highlight of the day! Very animated! *TIP* they are sneaky and will steal your food, water, phone, glasses...whatever...LOL! Very enjoyable experience. We will return again.

The place serves as a forest reserve for wildlife. It also serves as a training center for millions personnels due to the high mountains . Individuals are also allowed to hike up the Shai hills under supervision. Went there to make enquiries about the place. The staff were friendly and answered all my questions. They have hotel rooms and camper tents for a group of people who wish to camp. There’s also a restaurant which serves breakfast and lunch at an affordable price. I really had fun with the baboons by the roadsides as well. Gave them some bread and biscuits. The hiking is a must try, even though I didn’t partake in it.

It good get-away from the city to bond with nature. Here is breakdown of the packages: 1. Mini walks around the park to sight ostriches, zebras, baboons and a quick visit to the museum. Best for families with little children. 2. A long walk and a hike to watch antelopes, baboons and wild cats in their natural habitat. 3. A rock climbing adventure that promises a great view of the beautiful landscapes. As a plus, camping is an option for individuals or groups. Side note: 1. They sell drinks and water here but you may want to bring your own drinks, snacks or food for a picnic. 2. Tidy and well-stocked washrooms. 3. Patient, knowledgeable and friendly tour guide.

Nice place, not much to see though if you have been to real safaris. Recommended to take the 2 hours tour at least to see more. The rangers are very helpful and informative. The prices are very reasonable, don't buy the tours from Internet, they charge 10 times more, find a car and go on your own

An amazing place to visit and learn about the Shai people and their culture. Sometimes they may ask you to pay for a photo permit depending on the type of camera you have on you. Our tour guide Bright was excellent and patient.

This is a good place to travel to if you don’t want to go far from Accra. Tour guides are knowledgeable. No food available but you can bring yours along. There is however drinks and water. Take time and go hike with friends and family and enjoy yourself. Happy New Year

Had so much fun when I decided to visit a second time this year with some friends. Beautiful scenery, nice adventure especially the hiking and I mean a good appreciation of nature from some feets above the ground.

Great experience of natural habitat of various wildlife. Also a museum depicting the history of the shai hills people etc. Guided tours of the reserve include caves exploration and hill climbing. Very exciting experience

The place is spacious for parking. There are different entrance fees for both adults and students. The monkeys are all over the place however, you're not allowed to feed them else they'll attack you. I suggest they get a souvenir shop so tourists can buy some keep sakes.😊

I personally enjoyed the rocky terrain up the naturally placed rocks and learning about the history of the Shai people. The free range baboons, zebras and other animals I saw in their natural environment was exciting. The staff were friendly and helpful. A serene environment that is notably neat.

Nice place to experience nature. They have 3 different locations each with a different track. Expect to take a road trip using your own car , so be careful of the car you are using as you might go through rough road. Don't expect to see wild animals, a zibra, ostrich and baboons are only what you can see.

It was a fantastic experience. There's no vehicle for the safari drive, so you have to use your own car or get a cab to take you. Our tour guide was really great and chatty. The views are totally worth the hike

Oh how amazing! The views on top of the rocks are worth dying for! And there’s fresh unpolluted air to breathe all through. Our guide was so friendly and gave us a whole lot of details. He also told us of their Nature resort that had apartments. I would definitely check those out soon. We spent like 2 hours there but we enjoyed it! The zebras, antelopes, monkeys 🐒… beautiful nature!

It's a very beautiful wild park, not very far from the Tema city. Great place to walk and enjoy the scenery. Go here early if you want to see the animals, because wild animals hate the strong sun too.

It was a very interesting and revealing experience. Jennifer, the tour guide shared the history behind the Mogo Hill and it was great to know. Also, the hill climbing was another great experience. However, the major concern is about how the time is calculated. I found it very unfair that the time alloted commenced when I was driving to the main tour site. I am of the view that it should have commenced when we arrived at the main tour site. Again, the rains had a telling effect on the road network and it made it difficult to access some parts of the tour site. It will be of great benefit if the road network is improved such that even if it rains, the roads to the tour site will still be easily accessible.

Perfect getaway about n45 minutes outside of Acca. Not a ton of animals, other than baboons, but the vistas and views were stunning. If you do the cave hike- prepare for a pretty hard climb with rope grips and a large steep ladder. Guide was excellent

As far as a tour of the nature reserve goes this is probably one of the most basic. You are not only expected to pay for all individuals, but then you also have to pay for your vehicle which we were not told was going to be used throughout the excursion. They don't provide any water (although bottles can be purchased very cheaply), and unless the guide is in the car with you (he was in our car which we had to pay for to drive him around remember) you won't really be able to ask specific questions when you see something of interest on route. With that said, the trip is not expensive. It's a nice day out. The views at the top of the hills were beautiful. Manage your expectations regarding seeing the animals as there are only two ostriches and 12 zebras. The baboons were crossing the road as you're driving so you'll see them.

Thi place is beyond beautiful and wonderful.. it is astonishing. I would love to take wedding pictures here. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and fun. I did not take pictures of the other animals. Simply free

Their guest house is very cool. The services are splendid. To live in a surrounding so natural that you have baboons parading your domicile in the morning is unparalleled. Simply awesome!

Love everything about the place with the exception that there is no Safari car yo take you around and you have to go in your own car. The place is lovely and the tour guide was awesome. I will recommend and even planning on taking my children to see the place as well. It will be great if the government will acquire about 5 or more Safari cars for the guides to use.

Nice experience with wildlife reserve, like it. But not happy with tour guide. The guide didn't really care for tourist wellbeing. I would like to suggest tourism department to fence the roadside area of reserve. Animals coming on road not safe for animals and for vehicles passing.

Nature is a beautiful thing to experience and one of the best places to experience it is at Shai Hills. They also have some wildlife creatures over there. Just wonderful experience.

Had a great tour of the reserve with the family. Chose a 2hour kid- friendly tour; my 4year old rock climbing (up the Mogo Hill) got him so excited. we also saw some monkeys, zebras, antelopes and ostriches. Very friendly tour guide too. You definitely need a car though to be able to get around as they don’t offer transportation. Fee was also really cool- Paid 2ghc per child and 30ghc per adult (entry & activity fees) + 5ghc for vehicle permit. We have great sites to see in Ghana 🇬🇭!! Forestry Commission/ GTA/ Ministry of Tourism, Pls get them a safari vehicle to take tourists around the reserve. The fee charged for the safari can repay the investment made in the vehicle and even attract more visitors to the reserve.
