This zoo is wonderful! Very small but a great facility. To walk the whole thing and read about the animals it takes about 45 minutes. The animals look well taken care of and there's always staff walking around to answer questions. Some animals do get put away for weather and season but I still go to take my son for walks. The gift shop is cute and there are lots of photo opportunities throughout the zoo.

An intimate, pleasant zoo in the north part of the city. If you have kids, definitely take them here if you can. If you don't, I still recommend coming here anyway, because it is a enriching and beautiful experience. You won't have to spend a lot of time here. It is not that hard to navigate the zoo, and will not take that long. If you come here in the winter months, admission is free, and you don't need to buy a ticket. The process of coming in is actually quite easy and simple. The downside is that not all the animals are here in the winter months, but a lot of them still are present. This collection includes the adorable and quite lovely red pandas, always a highlight. I have to say that my favorite moment of my trip to the zoo was probably the condor, a graceful and somber creature that I was able to get quite close to. It is large, and every majestic feather glistens darkly in the sunlight. There is a little white ruffle across the neck, and there is an exotic--yet familiar somehow--majesty to this bird that by itself make the trip worthwhile. Whatever your interest, I hope that you will find something worthwhile and compelling here. If you're in Wilmington and you have some time to spare, definitely come here, especially if you have kids.

Visited the Zoo on new year day, it was free entry with a guided tour. It's a small zoo but definitely interesting for little ones. Guides did a really good job taking us through the zoo and explaining each of the birds and animals, while answering our questions as well. The zoo has a good parking space and restroom. I will visit the place again.

The Brandywine Zoo is on the smaller side as far as Zoo's go. It's about the size of a city block and houses a surprisingly large number of animals. The Staff there is always friendly and eager to interact with the visitors and animals. I have been there a few times and each time I was able to catch some sort of feeding or live animal demonstration that seem almost personal due to the size of the zoo. Don't forget to pack a lunch and you can take advantage of the park outside of the zoo along the Brandywine River there are picnic tables scattered about and a nice trail that wraps around the area. I gave it 3 stars because of its size and cost to enter. In my opinion it is definitely worth checking out if you have not been I know my family and I plan on returning.

Such a cute little zoo. The red pandas are adorable! We were fortunate enough to go around the animal’s feeding time so they were a bit more active than usual. I loved that the admission was inexpensive as well.

It's a very small zoo with limited animals. Kids definitely enjoy this place and totally it will take 45 minutes to complete visiting this zoo. Plenty of car parking available and also big lakes going in parallel to the zoo which is an awesome place for hangouts. Water in the lake is flooding at a very low level and it's clear water. Big park is available for kids to play.

Nice little small zoo and when we visited it was also free. Not sure if that always the same. Sadly it was raining that day so most of the animals where inside. I can see in the summer it can be really nice. They have picknick tables and a covered area

Even though this zoo is small, it is lovely! I rarely see a zoo with the animals so up close. It was quite the treat. The lemurs are adorable and the goats are so friendly. Red panda was my favorite! You should definitely go as it is very affordable too.

I want to start with that the staff is extremely friendly and mostly helpful. The animals look well looked after and happy. I probably should have looked into it more but this zoo is TINY. I spent maybe 30 minutes here, saw everything and doubled back on an animal or two. If you are in Wilmington for something else or in this area I think it is worth a few minutes. Do not make this zoo your main destination

Visited the Brandywine Zoo with family and daughter's friend. Had a great time with very little crowd watching the condor warm himself by spreading his large wings, the lemurs running and playing in the new Madascar exhibit, the toucan catching seeds flipped from the tip of his bill and the two Pudos which are the world's smallest deer.

I recently visited Brandywine Zoo and had a great experience. The zoo was not crowded at all, which was a huge plus. The staff was friendly and helpful with any questions I had. I really appreciated that my kids were able to roam around without me having to worry about them leaving my sight. This is a great zoo for a quick morning or afternoon trip to help your kids burn some energy. They had a petting zoo too which was a huge hit with the kids, and I especially liked how all of the exhibits can be seen from the child eye level. (don't have to keep picking up the little ones to see). We took a stroll along the Brandywine River right across the street, they have a beautiful paved trail and garden. Overall, I had a great experience at Brandywine Zoo and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun activity.

Although a small zoo, it is well maintained and in a lovely park setting. The day we visited late in the afternoon, the monkeys, red panda and lemurs were very active (we think because it was close to feeding time). They were fun to watch. We hope that environmental conservation can help preserve their natural habitats so that these beautiful animals don't just live in zoos.

Animals not well taken care of. Had two raptor birds together that didn't belong in same area. Kept fighting and had nowhere to go. It is sad that these places still exploit animals for profit placing them in cages when they should experience life freely. I dont recommend this place. They should be shut down

Visited this zoo for the first time with my friend and her son and it was such a nice experience! We went during a time where it wasn’t busy & we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The exhibit was extremely well kept & it had a variety of animals to view! We then stopped into the gift shop & had a pleasant experience with a very knowledgeable employee, as she made us aware of all the upcoming events! It is a quick tour, but just enough for kids with a quick attention span. We will be back!

The zoo is really small which can be great if you want to get in and out- but bad if you want to spend a lot of time there. Staff were friendly and helpful. One thing I did enjoy was combing goats and seeing the capybaras. Overall 3 1/2 stars!

If you’re in downtown Wilmington looking for a short trip away from the brick and mortar, the Brandywine Zoo is close, small and accessible. As Zoos go, this one is teeny tiny- made even more so by the removal of the birds from their exhibits. But we walked to the zoo, stopping at a small playground, strolling along the canal, and crossing the stone bridge to get there. The walk was picturesque and refreshing. The half hour we took to walk the zoo from one end to another was just enough for our legs to rest and for us to experience this community’s vision for a local zoo. Also timed perfectly for a toddler’s attention span.

Well im not sure what you call it yes it has animals in cages but literally its so small i had to just stop n think did i miss a walk off way but nope its really that small, dont get me wrong its a nice place , nice environment, friendly staff, well kept animals besides 1 large bird kinda limps on his left leg , but over all its not that bad just dont think its a zoo zoo its like a animals housing complex or something, thumbs up tho , its a nice spot for a stop for kids i think, or just moms with small kids 🙂👍

This is a cute little zoo connected to a beautiful park. The animals appear to be well cared for. It only takes about 1/2 hour to see everything and the gift shop is not overpriced. My 8 year old had a good time.

A small zoo, that basically fits all along one short walkway. You can walk it in an hour tops if you stop at each exhibit. If not, it’ll probably take less than an hour. The Snack Bar seems to close pretty early on weekdays but is very inexpensive. The pudus just had a baby pudu on July 13th (according to the sign). Family-friendly spot. The bald eagles were very patriotic. Buy your tickets there rather than in advance. The Brandywine Zoo charges a $1 fee per person for booking in advance online.

Veeeery small zoo, but the variety of animals you don't usually see in your typical zoo were great! We were there about an hour with taking our time. I would have given 5 stars but the $7 per adult was pretty steep considering alot of zoos are donation encouraged and not mandatory

Stopped by in the morning as they were just opening and loved this sweet little zoo. We went in the off season so entry was free but the weather was on our side and all the animals were outside enjoying the sunshine. Recommend for a cute little outing!

Brandywine Zoo is a quaint little niche type of zoo. It is very clean with a very polite staff. Situated across from Brandywine Park, up on a hill area. It is wheelchair accessible, but eat your Wheaties, lol. They have a variety of small animals, such as lemurs, monkeys and a serval cat. There is a petting zoo, but is currently closed as of this review. You can still observe the goats and chickens. There is a snack shop here and a theater for shows, but there aren't currently any shows. If you want a small zoo type experience for about an hour or so, then this is for you. Make sure to go online and purchase your tickets for the time slot you would like. Enjoy your visit. Oh, I almost forgot, stop by and see the honeybees. It is neat to see inside if the hive.

This is a sweet little zoo that is perfect for young children and toddlers. It's small enough that you can visit all the animals in one hour, and a little one can run back and forth between the red pandas and the lemurs a dozen times without exhausting their grownups. There is a small amphitheater, an animal ambassador area, and a woodsy area for children to play in. There's even a Little Free Library stocked with animal-themed books! The reptile exhibit is very small, but it's still quite exciting. This is an excels spot to visit with small children, and if you live locally, the annual family membership is absolutely worth it.

Great little zoo! We were in the area (we're originally from Maryland) and decided to stop by on the way home before lunch. My kids (4 and 7) loved seeing the animals and I was surprised how many animals they actually have for being such a "small but mighty" zoo. We got to see alot of activity because of feeding times and it wasn't super crowded today like Google had suggested it would be. We were there about 40-45 min. *No pictures this time unfortunately*

Went out to breakfast with my grandson the other day and asked him what he wanted to do today. He looked up and said that he wanted to go to the zoo. So we did. This zoo may be small, but it is a big hit with my grand kids who are two and three years old. Everyone that I have met there is super friendly and shows so much patience with the kids. They just recently had an ice cream social for members that served Woodside farms creamery ice cream. That was good stuff. I highly recommend getting a family membership, you will definitely get your monies worth.

have been here many MANY years ago, back when the deer still roamed freely around the park & tried to steal your crackers. Decided to revisit when family w/kids came to visit; a Google search of things to do brought it up and I figured what the heck, it would take up a couple of hours for us adults and 2 kids who like animals. BIG hit with all involved. No, they do not have as many animals as a zoo or a couple of the other wildlife places farther away, but the animals they do have are entertaining and appear extremely well cared for. I particularly liked the lemurs, and feeding the Bison was uber cool because they grab the (provided) Romaine lettuce with their tongue and it's raspy when it touches your fingers! Definitely pay the $6 for the feed cups; not just the kids were stoked to feed the deer, Bison, goats, pony, alpacas, donkeys etc. We spent 2 1/2 hours walking the loop, feeding and petting various critters. With proper instruction you can even pet Hank, the resident show turkey. The one thing we didn't get to do because it was booked out ahead of time was the Sloth Encounter; if you want to do this make reservations well in advance. I'm looking forward to see what the new management will be adding to the sanctuary, as new enclosures are being built & outdoor areas being worked on. OH! Almost forgot the "gem mining". It's $10 a bag of sand to "mine" in the running water flume. The girls have done this numerous times before in some of those more popular north GA mining tourist traps but according to the parents this experience yielded MUCH better results (aka lots of actual cool stuff). Definitely recommend the entire experience.

We enjoy our small local zoo. It’s tiny and not much to see but the staff is always super friendly and they have special days that the kids really enjoy like the Boo at the Zoo. It’s size makes it nice to go have a picnic in the park and then visit the animals and it not taking up your entire day. Excited to see what changes are being made as they build the new enclosure.

Been couple of summers since my visits to this extraordinary gem at the edge of the cityscape. Location and size are well adapted to city life and it's fast pace. Including the Zoo, Brandywine River, the Park, Gardens, and Ice cream Festival, gives many options with a great balance between excitement and relaxation. Excellent staff, Terrific selection of healthy well maintained animals and exhibits.

There wasn't much to see, so if you're planning a zoo trip and want to make a day of it I wouldn't advise choosing Brandywine but it was a great mid day excursion. Food and gifts were VERY reasonable. I would absolutely recommend going here with elderly or small kids who get worn out quickly. If you are someone who gets EBT benefits bring your card and up to (3?) Other people for entry at $2 each.

Yes, like all of the other reviews tell us, the zoo is small. They don’t pretend to be anything that they are not in any of the advertisements. The animals that are there are visible and in decent enclosures. I was disappointed to not see any of the birds that were out inside because of the avian flu. My favorite animals were the tortoises. They were very active and it was really neat to see how they behave. My main problem with the zoo was their snack counter. First, they have on the menu that they have chips, they do not. Don’t advertise what you do not have. Secondly, I bought a hot dog which was practically cold and undercooked. That was really gross. Also, they have a cute but very small gift shop. We spent about an hour on site with our granddaughter. It is worth visiting but do not expect to be there long.
