Has a lot of stories from the slave trade to some recent presidents in Ghana. Got the discover the Danish people were also involved in slavery. Gate fee is 20 Cedis to give access and a tour guide to the castle. Its really an emotional tour. Also has a very beautiful garden. Greater Accra

Amazing history lies within the walls of this castle. It’s not Cape Coast that has castles to show history of slaves but Accra in Osu does. The grounds has a story to tell of the rich history.

Rich history with interesting facts from pre colonial Ghana to post independence. History: Osu Castle is a castle located in Osu, Ghana on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea in Africa. This substantial fort was built by Denmark-Norway in the 1660s, thereafter the fort changed ownership between Denmark-Norway, Portugal, the Akwamu, Britain, and finally post-Independence Ghana. Under Denmark–Norway control it was the capital of the Danish Gold Coast, and held and dispatched enslaved people overseas. In 1902, Osu Castle became the seat of government in Ghana but this has now moved to Golden Jubilee House or the Flag staff House.

The Osu castle tour should be more popular but it’s constantly on a open to the public/ not open to the public rotation which can be frustrating. Aside from its rich colonial history, it was used as the seat of government and I believe till date still houses some ministries hence its restrictions. I recommend you go on weekends and be mindful of your dressing if you do go on weekdays. I was once turned around cos my outfit was considered inappropriate (it was a shirt dress👀) If I’m not mistaken, it’s 20gh for Ghanaians and 40gh for foreigners. You can take pictures but there are video restrictions. The castle has interesting history and artefacts that date back. The parts closest to the sea seem to be falling apart and renovations is currently on going. Love love love the architecture and the massive beautiful garden. The Akwamu people who skilfully took over the Castle for a year is by far my fav history story. The dungeons are quite disheartening. Sigh! All in all, it’s a great tour and I recommend it Hit me up on ig @akosuashirley to join any of my car city tour

The Osu Castle tour was quite interesting, tour guide with good history lessons. He was patient, in his element, shows passion in his job. Was quite sad to see the pitiful conditions of the dungeons, little or no access to light, food drops from holes at the top, very low ceilings. Learnt about how the danish sold the castle to the Portuguese when slave trade was abolished then the British took over. The history is solemn and quite hurtful to remember fellow Africans sold their fellow citizens into slavery for mirrors and drinks. It is well kept, clean and could do with a little more maintenance.

We had a perfect experience. For 100cedi we got guided tour of the whole castle. The guide was just perfect in terms of historic information and also as a performer. The tour lasted for about an hour, there is very nice view of Accra from ramparts and the garden next to a castle is a calm haven filled with flowers and birds. Definitely worth the money.

A wonderful place to experience…a former seat of government with parts of it serving as offices. The castle has a beautiful outdoor garden available for public use (you can have a picnic or read a book there). There some wonderful peacocks there as well. Parts of the castle tells heartbreaking history of Ghana’s colonial past under slavery. You easily connect with the soul of the Castle when touring it. It still has a bed (well preserved) that was used by Queen Elizabeth.

Linnake kierros oppaan kanssa. Paljon hyvin synkkää, mutta aina muistamisen arvoista historiaa. Sisäpihalla useita puoteja, joissa myynnissä turisteille erilaisia puuesineitä, kankaita ja matkamuistoja.

Extremely important historic place to visit when you are in Accra and Ghana. There are guided tours and the tour guide I had was extremely knowledgeable and he liked what he is doing. Thanks to him I learnt a lot about Ghanaian and African history.

Tried to visit and the man at the front desk sharply said entrance is 40 ghs per person. We immediately expressed our confusion with the price and he explained that that is the price for foreigners and for Ghanaian citizens, it's 20ghc. I then told him we are all Ghanaian citizens, he simply didn't bother to ask. He then offered another price but by that time I had lost interest in going. It was clear he was making up the prices as he went along. We work too hard for our money to be scammed by somebody who thinks they can outsmart people visiting from abroad. Do better.

The view from terrace is overlooking a coast which I found extremely peaceful. The inspiring history makes this place a must visit as every chamber has a unique story behind it.

It's one of the castle's in Ghana that is of huge significance in the history of Ghana, both pre and post colonial rule. Despite it being built over 3 centuries ago, it has been maintained in a very good condition. You get to see the several dungeons used for to house slaves before being carried abroad. You get to see the residences of the former presidents of Ghana who lived there, the room where Queen Elizabeth slept on her visit to Ghana, the 3-foot thick fortified walls, the beautiful gardens, the gate of no return, the burial sites of some departed slaves, the complex tunnels underneath the castle and the overall overwhelming architecture of the entire castle built and inhabited by over 4 different European countries. Shocking to see a church where the colonial masters gather to worship and underneath it, a dungeon where captured slaves are kept and mostly under starvation and other distress conditions. It was worth the visit and getting to know an important aspect of the history of then Gold Coast before independence from colonial rule. The time I went there, some parts were under renovation so couldn't get to see all the places within. The services of the tour guide was awesome, willing and ready to answer all of our questions. It's a place I'll like to visit again.

Not well organized nor maintained place for tourism. I do respect what Ghanaians went thru under colonialism abuses and European violation of human rights. Ghanaians should put more information and invest here to honor the dead.

Historically, it is very significant. The tour guide was excellent, facts, the physical structure, it was all overwhelming. I wish there were funds to restore this location as an active smuseum space.

We paid 100 Ghana Cedis per person, this allows you tour the castle, the garden and the entire grounds. Brace yourself, there’s a lot of slave trade history, colonialism and other sad tales. We were shown around the castle, the dungeons and the gardens.

Really historic and interesting place but most doors were locked and the tour guide claims they were under renovation. Close to other historic sites you can walk to see as well

Enjoyed the tour, quite informative. Once the castle is restored, it will be a top tourist attraction in Accra. I was told it is 50 cedis for the tour, not sure if I should have paid this amount. There was no ticket or receipt provided to me. Right now, the castle is only open on the weekend.

Nice castle (Fort Christiansborg), with a long and interesting history. Benjamin gave a great tour and provided a lot of information about the fort, its history, and role in the slave trade. It's unfortunate that some parts of the fort are in poor condition. Castle is walking distance from Black Star Square.

Great experience of history. The castle has a very dark history of slavery as well as changes in local leadership over many years. It also stands as a symbol of what a nation can achieve if it looks past its history and to its future.

Some good insights into the Danish role in this region, most rooms are closed and the general state of disrepair is saddening - it was once the President's official residence. Today, need work to bring it up

This is one of the best local attraction in town. Using e-hailing car to the castle, buy ticket on the spot amd enter; no pre booking needed. There is a guide included and he will explain all around the castle, the guide definitely has done his part and able to give very detail explanation. Well done and the trip aboit 1 hour. Meanwhile, improve some maintenance work and the castle will be better in shape to attract more attention.

The location is very close to the airport if you are in Accra wanting to visit an important place in global history, for those who can't make it to the further larger forts that held enslaved Africans. You can visit it on a long layover even. The cellars that held thousands of scared people are imposing in their feel while heartbreaking in their lack of light, space and air. We could barely breathe and there were only a dozen of us in there, instead of the hundreds it would hold during its operational time. it was clearly torture. The seas and gates of no return are places you must see to understand. I very much encourage a visit if you can.
