With fond memories of a fabulous meal at Le Jardin des Saveurs in this monochrome space, we approached Umaiya with a sense of optimism. This new restaurant offers three disparate cuisines—Japanese, Chinese and Thai—from the hands of a Thai chef. The mishmash menu originated from the family’s personal dining preferences. The airy, elevated plantation house interior is pretty much the same as I remembered, just personalised with colourful red lanterns and wall-hangings. Dancing red fish, rising suns, erupting volcanoes and waves in the style of Hokusai compete with the fifty shades of green you can see though the wide open windows. It’s a pleasant place to enjoy a meal. We opted for sashimi set B (2600VT) purported to contain tuna, salmon and mahi mahi, though the latter has been switched out for raw scallops. The cutting is thick, not what it should be, but the fishes are fresh and the phoenix-like carrot garnish makes it a pretty 12-piece plate. The wasabi however is ballistic, handle with care. Sadly the sashimi arrived with our hot mains: spicy pork (1900VT) and egg fried rice (800VT). This is perhaps a consequence of the restaurant juggling three different cuisines. Despite our enthusiastic “we love chilli”, the pork dish was rather bland but saved by nicely handled local vegetables: carrots, sweet onions and beans. The house sake is drinkable and affordable if you fancy a tipple with your eclectic lunch.

Umaiya by Padthai is an excellent restaurant for dining in Port Vila. Located near Warwick Resort and around a 5-10 minute drive from the town center. This place offers a very exceptional dining experience. The environment inside is quite modern and very pleasant to sit in. The staff was friendly and provided outstanding service to the customers. Unlike other restaurants, Umaiya offers three different cuisine options, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese. Me and a couple of friends went to Umaiya on their monthly buffet night. I was amazed by the array of food they offered on the buffet menu, a mix mash of selections from all three cuisines they offer. All the food turned out great and we were filled to the brim with all the food. Followed by the homemade ice cream as a finisher to the stuffing meal. The price was definitely worth what we got at 3500vt per adult and I think 2000vt for kids under 10. Not too busy which meant we didn't have to fight for food unlike other buffets we've been to. I would definitely recommend everyone to try out the buffet night, they announce the dates through their Facebook page. On another night that we went, we ordered the a la carte menu and we had quite a tough time choosing just from how many options there were. In the end, we ordered a few dishes that appealed to us, which included: Umaiya sushi roll, Umaiya Takoyaki, Tuna and salmon sashimis, Japanese-style salmon steak, deep-fried chicken wings, pad Thai beef, and chicken cashew nuts. We also ordered some of the drinks as well, which we had plenty to pick from. We enjoyed our food and drinks very much and finished everything we ordered and we ended off with some homemade mango ice cream. Very good quality food and service in a unique and calming atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place for everyone, kid-friendly as well. I will be coming back for more food later on, one of the best restaurants in Port Vila guaranteed.

By far the best place to dine in Port Vila. Coming from Australia our Asian cuisine palate is quite advanced and Umaiya is able to cater to this so well. This was the only restaurant we ate at while here … 3 nights in a row. I would highly recommend it. Ron and his wife are super friendly. Do not miss out …if in Port Vila you have to check it out! Try their homemade icecream while you are there. Very unique flavours!

We stayed at the Warwick so walked (5minutes) and ate here twice. Best food we had while in Vanuatu. Fresh and delicious. Very clean and high up so you get a lovely breeze. Our daughter is gluten free so very accomodating with lots of options - just ask. Cocktails and drinks reasonably priced. Well with a visit

When in port Vila, you must make time for this restaurant. Clean and pristine on top of a hill that has great views with cooling breeze. The sashimi is the best 👌 we have ever had anywhere. The garlic rice to die for. The thai green curry chicken matched or beat anything we had in Phuket. My crispy pork with asian greens was simply superb. Best food we have found in Vanuatu. Highly recommended.

We had a great experience on the 4th night of their opening. Despite this being a brand new restaurant, the food quality was top class! Service a little slow due to inexperienced staff but this will improve over time. Friendly owners and the place has a lovely fresh clean classy look.

Was really looking forward to trying the food here for a while as I love the range of menu. However, it was disappointing when the takeaway was not as ordered. I have ordered ebi udon noodles and when it arrived to me (I was ill so a friend has brought it over) it was just noodles with no ebi. Also ordered tempura prawns and what arrived was mixed tempura and the most disappointing part was there was no sauce- I generally order tempura just for the Tentsuyu which is the special tempura sauce- my friend went back and was given mayonnaise! Mayonnaise is unacceptable for my Japanese tempura experience. The salmon teriyaki don was also not as pictured on the menu- I thought I was getting salmon portion but ended up with salmon slices that isn’t cooked and just had teriyaki sauce added on it. I could have made better at home. Ultimately it was okay, I understand that perhaps the staff may still need time to figure out how to cook the dishes? But for my first experience unfortunately orders were wrong and for the price you pay it was disappointing. Specially for takeaways. If you have to go back and forth because orders are wrong it is such an inconvenience. I hope I had a better experience. I hope this can be improved.

I've been in Port Vila for 6 nights and eaten at Umaiya 3 nights! 3 Cuisines here- Japanese, Chinese and Thai..and all pretty authentic, absolutely great food. Prompt service, and as dessert goes, I recommend the black sesame ice cream made by the house and is so good. Well done Guys, you have a great resteaurant . I'll be back for sure.

Checked out the restaurant Umaiya on Elluk road next to Warwick and I must say… this is best Japanese food I’ve had in Vila. This place is definitely worth a visit during your stay! Staff was super friendly. They must’ve seen that I was exhausted after work, that they told me to relax, sit down, and gave me a cup of water during my wait for takeaway. 😂

Excellent food. It's clever how the owners and chef offer 3 different types of nationality food on the munue. Must say this is a first for us. We had thai btw. Excellent and tasty. Highly recommended.

I saw this restaurant while hit a bus to my accommodation and think will try one day. Finally, end up with dinner here 3 days in a row! Thai food here is very authentic and like I have Thai food in Thailand! I personally like Kao Soi Kai here, the taste like what I had in Chiangmai. Other Thai food is good as well, sometimes I get bored of Italian food and want something spicy and make me energized, Thai food always help 😊 Japanese food here is good I like Umaiya rolls and the sashimi here is very fresh and slice in a nice size. I’m very appreciate. Cocktail here have few for choose but it’s so refresh! I strongly recommend this restaurant you will never disappointed if you are a fan of asian food.

We had tempura vegetables entrees, which came with 2 tasty dipping sauces. Duck curry, garlic rice, & green papaya salad. All were incredible. The owner went out of his way to look after us and our 8mo baby, absolute legend.
