Wanted to engrave a premium watch for a special occasion, so I approached this family business to have it done right, and wanted to enquire early. First contact with Papa was odd, didn't want to talk until I brought the watch. Still managed to get some info on feasibility and price by insisting (I wanted non Latin characters, to which I was replied "everything that can be written in a computer eg MS word, greek, Japanese... but not Arabic eh"... I didn't comment. I told him that it was made of steel 316L but he didn't have a clue what this meant. Came back 2 weeks later with the watch I had ordered once I received it, and the text on a USB stick as they requested. I was told by the daughter that I would be contacted in the course of the week for feasibility. I had wanted it the following week ideally, as I was heading out for 3 weeks afterwards. I wasn't contacted and couldn't reach them back. Still I could afford to wait the 3 additional weeks, but wanted it on my return. The mobile phone number (only one available) which could be reached from 9 to 20.00 according to the website (although the shop only opens at reduced hours 12 to 18) was not picking up calls, and voicemail often saturated. No news till my return when I decided to take some time off work to visit the shop. At 1 pm the daughter didn't know the status and could not help me, as Papa was dealing with the request, and told me to pass by later. I found the father busy with another customer at 17h20 and waited patiently in front of the door (despite relaxed covid rules, they still only accept one person at a time in the shop guarded by 2 huge barking dogs). After 30 minutes in front of the door, Papa still had not paid attention to me, did not even approach me to ask me to wait or asked why I was there for. When I knocked, the dogs barked and the man was visibly annoyed at me and waved to wait 5 more minutes. 10 minutes later which is the time the shop closes, I left as I had to go pick the kids. Came again 2 days later, the daughter received me and papa did not bother to leave the backroom. I overheard him say "what watch? I never accepted a watch and am too busy". The daughter gave me back the watch untouched after those 5 weeks. I asked for an explanation and a reason why I was never called back, which she couldn't provide. I still don't know what the heck was it all about, they only made me lose my time without even an excuse. It felt like the embodiment of obsolete craftsmanship and peak of poor customer service. I can't expect to find creativity there. The website says it is a 3rd generation business, I hope the second retires soon to give a chance to the 3rd.

After googling for a jeweller close to the place I go to work, I took to Genotbijoux a Frida Kahlo-style bracelet to have one piece taken and made into a pendant. The jewellery is made of silver, and black and green stones in succession. The reviews of the place were both positive and negative. (The place doesn’t look like a usual jewellery store/shop. It doesn’t look luxurious at all and the merchandise are not beautifully displayed). First advantage: It’s a very accessible place, very close to Louis Schmidt with its tram stops and parking spaces on both sides of the Chaussée de Wavre. My husband and I were welcomed by the father but we were referred to the son for the work that should be done. The son said that it would take one or two weeks because of the many holidays in May – he would call when finished. The cost would be from €50.00 to €75.00 because another shop would work on it with a laser. (The jeweller close to where we live gave the quotation of €150.00 because of the handwork it would require). We agreed, we got a number and we left. Two weeks passed; no call. I started panicking. We didn’t have a picture of the jewellery and we didn’t count the number of stones on it, and there was no written proof of what we left with the jeweller. In the third week he called. The work was done well. He said we had to pay €50.00 because of the delay. I bought a silver chain for the pendant. I was short of €20.00. He said simply: “You pay me when you come back”. I hesitated. Other stores would not let me go away with the goods without having fully paid. He noticed my hesitation so he added, “I don’t think you can do anything with €20.00”. I went back the back the following day. This time I was received by his mother because he was busy with somebody. After standing there for a 2/3 minutes, the mother told me to just give the €20.00 to him, so I put it on the counter in front of him, said “Thank you”, and I left. Conclusion: he has so much trust on people he doesn’t know, he could also be trusted to give a good and honest service. I would go back to the shop for other things. He doesn’t have things displayed but I’m sure he can help if you tell him what you want or need. (Don’t ask him to fix a jewellery of ersatz gold, however. He said that it couldn’t be melted and soldered.)

Totally worth of recommending - very professional, conscientious, flexible and helpful staff and excellent quality and timely service. I have been a regular customer for seven years and have always been happy about reparations and refreshing of all kinds of pieces, as well as ingenuous alternative solutions in case of difficult reparations. It is a real pleasure to see a Jeweller with a passion who really cares about the objects that are dear to us!
