Today, what you find is something of a French Neo-Gothic exterior and facade. There is also a free standing Baroque style tower just outside the main church building that is worth a look. The interior offers a bare nave with minimal ornamentation. There is a fine altar, carved wooden pulpit and few other nice things to see. However, by comparison to other church visits you may have done in Brussels, there is quite a bit less to see within St. Catherine's Church. In the end, worth a look-see if you are sightseeing in this area of central Brussels. Otherwise, if you are short on time in the city, there are more impressive and interesting churches you can visit first.

St. Catherine's Church sits on the site of another church of the same name and the ruins can still be seen adjacent to the current building. The current building is looks like it was originally Gothic, but acquired Romanesque and Baroque characteristics after more renovation in the late 19th century. The latter two styles more obvious once you step inside. In fact you can easily see which part of the church was renovated and which part not. The older part of the building needs a serious clean, while the newer part is gleaming white. The interior of the church is very bland compared to the exterior and especially for a church of this scale. There's none of the stained glassed windows you'd expect from a church that's over 500 years old. I wouldn't go specifically to see this church unless you have time. Pass the outside of the building and that's the best part.

The church is beautiful piece of architecture! The square around to the church had lots of cafés and restaurants! During winter (November-December) this is where the Brussels Christmas markets take place, a fun place to get the Christmas spirit up! During spring and summer on a sunny day lots of people will hang around on the square! You can enjoy a nice refreshing drink from the local cafés on their terrace.
