Very friendly service and extensive explanation about the city of Ghent. People took their time to speak to us despite a long line of people waiting. Where the tourist information office is now housed, the fish market was finally housed on Sint-Veerleplein in 1689. The baroque gate building was built on that occasion. The facade was richly decorated with sculpture, with allegorical representations of the sea and water gods and goddesses. At the very top was a large statue of the sea god Neptune. In 1872 the gatehouse was destroyed by fire, destroying all sculptures. The new images on either side of the central part were conceived as representations of the Leie and the Scheldt, the two rivers in Ghent. The new Neptune points explicitly to the fish market, where his "gifts" were displayed. The fishmongers' guild had their meeting room on the floor of the gatehouse. The lanterns on Sint-Veerleplein are connected to the maternity units of the city of Ghent. Every time the light flashes slowly, a child is born. Garutti's work on Sint - Veerleplein is a reflection on the history of the Gravensteen and Sint-Veerleplein as a location of executions and therefore of death. Now it is the location of the birth, the new life.

Pleasant, helpful staff ready to give you a hand on what to see and do in the city. We purchased a 72 hour city card and learned what was open and what wasn't during our time there.

Nice place. Visually, the old town is somehow โ€œHarry Potterโ€ like. Strong houses, nice atmosphere.

Helpful staff, lots of free brochures, maps, etc. Rather unhelpful interactive computer system. There did not appear to be any toilets nearby (despite what Google Maps suggested) EDIT: I now see from Google Streetview where the toilets are. But the fact that I managed to miss them, despite looking, is because there seem to be no signposts or directions from the Tourist Centre.

The person who attended to me, helped me to better experience the city by explaining about the Ghent's unique place in history, and further stirred in me a clear interest to thoroughly engage with and enjoy being in the city! I highly recommend visiting this official information center before you draw out your plans for investigating this amazing heritage city.

Coming from Asia, we only had a few days in Gent on our itinerary and also wanted to visit Flanders Fields, but there weren't any tours originating from Gent. The staff at the Info Center were extremely helpful and called their Ypres/Ieper counterpart to get details on what tours were available the next day, and even which train we should take to get there on time (which was super early!). They even called up the tour operator later on after we had booked online to confirm they had received our booking for the next day. Thank you!

Having grumbled about the dark and unfriendly TIC in Dieppe, I feel I must praise this excellent office in Ghent. They clearly explained the (essential) Visit Gent pass, and had some tips on how we could see the (essential) Hotel d'Hane-Steenhuyse before activating the card. Lovely building with a great view of the water. Exactly what we wanted.

Just behind the castle, in a corner. Had to go between cafes' tables to get to the entrance. There were two staff, but didn't really have to ask for anything, as there was plenty of material, available in different languages, easily accessible. Got the usual city map and other interesting leaflets on the city and the region, too.

Ghent is a port city in northwest Belgium, at the confluence of the Leie and Scheldt rivers. During the Middle Ages it was a prominent city-state. Today itโ€™s a university town and cultural hub. Its pedestrianized center is known for medieval architecture such as 12th-century Gravensteen castle and the Graslei, a row of guildhalls beside the Leie river harbor.

I find any excuse to drop in again. This place is a real marvel. The way they guide you through a very special city is astonishing. Just go to the building to discover the site and the sight. My last visit here gave me precious informations about 't Kuipke, the Wintercircus, the Boekentoren and the Muide. On the same square, just before the entrance of Visit Gent, there are also free public toilets. Would you like to look up for yourself some information on the internet? There are a few computers free to use.

Visiting Gent for the first time, we stopped by the Tourist info to get armed with hard copy maps and city guide. We received fast, useful and honest guidance, that fitted our profile - two adults and two kids age five and eight. We and especially the kids, enjoyed the treasure hunt with Fosfor, the dragon. It is a very good way to initiate your stay as it got us past the most important sites - all in one afternoon. Afterwards the kids could easier pick out which sites to explore more closely. The following days. It was highly appreciated that there was an actual little gift to get upon completion that served as a little souvenir. Very good team Gent! Thank you for your service! It really gave us a better start to our stay!

Iโ€™ve been here with my family a few days ago and the guy at the front desk was super nice and prepared. He helped us choosing a suitable tour around the town to see all the major sights in just one day. The place itself was also very well equipped to help tourists like us to find places to eat, attractions, etc. The location was also very beautiful. 5/5 โญ๏ธ! Grazie! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น
