High-priced
Teeth
Bleaching
Procedure
&
Overpriced
Bleaching
Products
I
was
looking
for
a
dentist
in
the
Overijse
region
offering
teeth
bleaching
/
whitening.
This
is
a
common
service
provided
by
many
dentists
and
quite
an
easy
money-maker
for
them.
But,
when
I
called
around
I
quickly
found
that
to
get
an
appointment
might
take
a
while,
because
the
dentists
were
often
booked
for
weeks
or
even
months
in
advance.
Iserna
was
able
to
provide
me
with
an
appointment
within
a
few,
short
weeks,
and
so
I
chose
them
primarily
for
that
reason,
and
the
fact
that
they
are
located
quite
close
to
my
house.
In
parallel,
I
did
some
research
into
teeth
bleaching
procedures
and
saw
a
wide
range
of
prices
for
this
service
from
dentists.
Nota
bene,
there
are
also
non-dentist
service
providers
for
teeth-bleaching
who,
typically,
charge
a
lot
less,
but
they
also
are
not
legally
allowed
to
use
higher
%
dosages
of
the
bleaching
peroxide
gel
used
by
dentists.
I
wanted
this
procedure
done
by
a
professional,
so
I
went
to
Iserna.
Iserna
charged
me
450€.
Included
in
that
service
were
following
points:
1.
a
brief,
ca.
5
minute,
cleaning
/
polishing
of
my
teeth.
My
teeth
and
gums
were
already
in
excellent
condition,
and
that
enabled
us
to
get
to
the
next
steps
here
immediately.
However,
if
your
teeth
&
gums
are
not
in
very
good
condition,
then
any
dentist
worth
their
ethics
will
insist
on
first
doing
the
necessary
preparations.
That
can
add
MUCH
to
the
overall
price-tag
and
timeline
for
this
procedure
2.
making
an
imprint
of
my
teeth
with
some
form
of
cement
/
gum.
Steps
1
&
2
were
it
for
the
1st
session,
which
took
a
total
of
ca.
20
minutes
3.
Production
of
a
custom-fit
insert
for
my
upper
and
lower
teeth.
This
insert
is
used
to
apply
the
actual
peroxide
bleaching
/
whitening
gel
to
your
teeth
properly.
I
received
that
insert
during
my
2nd
session
along
with
4
x
3ml
of
15%
peroxide
gel
by
a
brand
called
'Illumine'.
That
2nd
session
took
ca.
10
minutes.
The
actual
bleaching
treatment
is
done
at
home
Those
4
x
3
ml
of
bleaching
gel
lasted
for
about
8
consistent
days
of
treatment.
The
result
was
somewhat
whiter
teeth,
but
definitely
not
yet
the
result
I
was
happy
with.
Indeed,
dentists
often
recommend
at
least
8
x
3ml
for
a
consistent
treatment
period
to
achieve
good
results.
As
I
wanted
more
peroxide
gel,
I
contacted
Iserna
to
order
more,
and
they
want
30€
per
1
x
3
ml
dose.
That
seemed
really
expensive.
So,
I
did
some
research
online
and
quickly
discovered
that
the
price
dentists
pay
is
ca.
130€
for
10
x
3
ml,
i.e.
ca.
13€
/
3ml
dose,
of
this
Illumine
product.
Thus
a
ca.
17€
mark-up.
Clearly,
Iserna
applies
a
whopping
margin
to
that
product,
and
I
find
that
pricing
extortionate.
It
feels
rather
greedy.
So,
I
did
some
more
research.
That
then
quickly
lead
me
to
find
other
dentists
in
Overijse
who
provide
steps
1
-
3
here
at
much
more
competitive
and
customer-friendly
price-points.
You
can
get
the
same
1
-
3
procedure
done
for
320€,
a
130€
price-difference
from
Iserna,
and
the
re-supply
of
bleaching
gel
can
cost
as
little
as
20€
per
3ml.
The
added
bonus
is
that
competitor
product
has
16%
peroxide
instead
of
15%.
And
all
those
costs
benefits
come
without
any
negotiation
yet.
In
short,
I
highly
recommend
anyone
interested
in
teeth
bleaching
/
whitening
to
not
waste
their
money
unnecessarily
by
going
to
Iserna
for
their
high-priced
version
of
this
treatment,
and
to
definitely
avoid
Iserna
for
their
over-priced
supply
of
bleaching
gel.
