Old school, classic cantina. Must visit for Beat Generation fans. William Burroughs haunted this establishment and wrote about it in ‘Junky’ Classic beer and tequila kind of place, but they make nice cocktails. Staff is professional and friendly. The ambience is amazing and the multitudes of stories here bounce around the booths and ceilings .

Most famous as William S. Burroughs wrote some of his classics here under the influence and in the heart of CDMX Chinatown. Worth the visit for the history and the still existing interior from old times. Ask the waiter for a few of the notorious old door signs!

Tio Pepe's is a unique experience. With perhaps one exception, it is the only historic camtina in downtown Mexico City that has not recently closed or become an expensive tourist trap. What makes it special is the original charm. Opened at the end of the French Empire in Mexico, it features the original beautiful wood bar back and ornate ceilings. The bar back itself is a uniqre historical artifact, Imported from France, it was probably a year or more in transet. There are only a handful of these in original condition anywhere in the Americas. What a great place to have a cold beer and become part of history. There is a full bar with a good selection of distilled beverages, mixed drinks and national beers. Good food is available in afternoons from a nearby restaurant. The place is relatively small with booths and a few indoor and out door tables. Located at what is now the north end of China Town, it is a favorite spot for both locals and visitors. Is is one of my regular stops whenever I visit Mexico City.

This cantina opened up in 1869, so, a classic classic in cdmx!!! For the people visiting mexico city for the first time but also for locals, this cantina is a classic, closing early night, 10pm, before was different, but the local regulations had chage in the last few years, anyway, good drinks, great deco, and cool to spend some time and have some drinks..

Great pub with a very historic atmosphere. Limited (if any) food options.

The oldest bar in Mexico City was a quiet getaway and cool place to observe busy Chinatown; enjoyed beers with a quiet, mixed crowd in pretty interiors. Simple menu, polite barman, clean bathroom.

Great Margaritas in a classic old school Cantina! The bar snack "Tortitas" are fantastic as well!

A classic, dark, comfortable bar with friendly staff and character. Our margaritas were made the right way with fresh squeezed limes, a generous pour and a complimentary bowl of spiced peanuts. Love this place.

A historic bar in Mexico city, it's been around since 1869 and it feels like it which is awesome. Good drinks and unique vibe to it must stop when in the city.

Wide selection of cocktails available, ranging from 80-120 pesos on average. It’s a traditional Mexican cocktail bar, with old-school diner feels. An unique experience for anyone down for some quick drinks at an atypical scene

It's a bar. An old one and a nice, chill one. Not a 20-something in sight, trying to "reach out" to make sure I have a wonderful day. The staff are respectful and friendly, the drinks are generous and the atmosphere of quiet trios music is very pleasant.

Just a real low key Mexican cantina. Good service. A bit grungy but it all works. Mezcals, tequilas, and cerveza!

Love this bar! I visited a few times on my short trip to CDMX. Unlike many places in the city (per local friends) this place really makes an amazing margarita - I tried and loved the tequila and the Mezcal options. The sangrita was great too, as was the Manhattan. The ambiance is also spot on if you just want a beer. Highly recommend this beautiful and full of history spot.

Six stars if I could. Checks the historic and dive bar boxes. Swinging doors, old woodwork, weathered booths, friendly service just off right in Centro Historico. While you wet your whistle, some vendors might come through to shine shoes or peddle a snack.

Super cool bar. Can't wait to stop in and say hello the next time I'm in town. History. Friendly owner/workers.

Great environment, one of the oldest cantinas in the city.

Tio Pepe provided one of the warmest cantinas to grab a drink through their great service and souvenir filled historic atmosphere. To think that this cantina once banned women and children and was a meeting point for gangs in the early 20th century is just so interesting to imagine as you sip on some mezcal with a delicious housemade sangrita. The bartenders were attentive and friendly, even allowing us to take a picture behind the bar! Tucked away in the heart of Chinatown, Tio Pepe sits, ready to transport their guests back in time!

By far my favorite bar in Mexico City it’s very old very well preserved and extremely beautiful. There’s even a sign that it was for forbidden for women back in the days. The staff in the bartenders are very friendly and the music is not as loud as most Mexico City places. There’s a variety of tequila‘s and Mezcal and the prices are reasonable
