Had the best experience staying here! The daily Ayurvedic treatments were incredible and the facilities were great. There’s possibly day activities, of which we did the bird watching. There was a spacious balcony which overlooked the river which you can swim in, or they also have a pool. The food was amazing, always fresh and so much variety. Will cherish the time is spent here and how well we were looked after. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

A retreat of being in a herbal garden within wild nature, heartfelt hospitality and truthful yoga experience! Warm welcome at arrival & exceptional caring and lovely attitude during our whole stay. The house and garden is full of art and daily reminders of how enchanting our life and nature is.We spent our days at the bamboo hut which was clean and cosy with an amazing view of the river. The open-air bathroom is the best place to take a shower in the middle of the jungle! Listening to the sound of the birds and soaking in the surrounding vibes of nature is already a wonderful treatment for the soul. In the morning and in the afternoon animals are coming to the opposite side of the river, we even saw elephants! In addition we had the chance to take yoga classes instructed by a precious master with great experience and spirit. Thank to him, we started each day by cultivating inner peace and love within us. This experience made our time even more special and made us even more grounded and rejuvenated. All the meals freshly served - breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks & tea, dinner- were super tasty high quality food and offered in great variosity. At Munkudil everyone is extremely kind, helpful and the hospitality is outstanding. We are so grateful for every minute spent in this particular home away from home. It will always be a heartwarming memory!

It was a perfect spot for us. 100% dedicated staffs, very polite and gentle. Food blown my mind. It was so delicious. I went there to celebrate my wifes birthday. Its not a place for bachelor's. Its a retreat resort, so you can relax and enjoy the calmness and beautiful forest. Will be going back again.

Let me strongly mention that once you go to Munkudil Ayurveda Yoga Resort, Thattekad, you will feel it as your 2nd home. The sincere Hospitality extended by Lalu & Ranjit all long & the homely kitchen in the hands Lalu's wife Mini and other 2 ladies giving you the best mouth watering taste are the highlights. Of course you can feel a mother's lap, by gentle breeze coming through many rare Ayurvedic medicinal plants and lullaby of river just behind your room. Yes it was a Rare - Great Experience for me and my wife Ajitha during our stay and we do hope to go there time to time with our relatives & friends.

Highly recommended. Friendly and helpful staff. Stunning location in nature. Much more of a retreat-feeling than a clinic-feeling, very nice treatments nevertheless (disclaimer: I have no previous ayurveda nor yoga experience, but it felt very good!). Stayed a week, could easily have extended! I went to Munkudil to get some help winding down and to try out ayurvedic treatments for depression, anxiety and stress. I had a fairly brief consultation with a doctor who (via an interpreting secretary) prescribed various herbal medications, treatments and yoga. While my ailments aren't fully treated or gone (that wasn't my expectation or hope) I definitely do feel lighter and less stressed. I would attribute it partly to me just taking a break in this serene place away from the everyday bustle, but I believe the care and attention I received definitely played a major role. The house is fantastic. It's a small mansion, or a large villa. There are 5 or 6 riverside rooms, a tree hut (on the roadside) and a room on top of the house. The house overlooks a swimmable river with clear water. From my terrace I saw many wild animals, including a herd of wild elephants!! And the property is filled with various artwork, making it just a little bit more interesting. My room was clean and fresh with decent beds, clean sheets and blankets. There was air-conditioning and a fan in the room. I did need to chase out the odd critter (expect it - you're basically in the forest!), but when the staff saw one of my attempts they hurried to help. There are only a few signs of the house aging, like a leaky shower faucet and some broken lights - but the staff were quick at fixing whatever I asked for. There are plants and green everywhere around the house. There's also a small pool with natural water from a well on the property, but I never used it (I preferred the river!). There are CCTV cameras in and around the house (but not in the room, of course). Apart from an English woman also staying to help set up shop (the house was previously leased, and is now run anew by the owner) I was the only person staying here most of my week, so I basically had the place to myself! There are neighbouring houses but you don't see them and rarely hear them. The occasional moo or honk can be heard but it's nothing compared to most of India - or to the sound of nature when the sun has set. Not all, but most of the staff speak only little English - communication was never a problem though. My only piece of criticism would be the aquariums, albethey beautiful I don't subscribe to any animal living in cages. Apart from that, the feeling you get from Munkudil is a very nature-loving, caring and organic one. My standard day: ~06:30 - Wake up, have a cup of tea with a slice of lime overlooking the river and the jungle, saying good morning to birds flying upstream. ~07:30 - Yoga for about 60-90 minutes. I'm a newbie but enjoyed it a lot! ~09:00 - Medications followed by breakfast, often a tasty curry and a chutney with dosa or idli. (I can imagine this would depend on whether you get prescribed a strict diet or not, I was not. All food is vegetarian though.). ~10:00 - Ayurvedic treatment: full body hot herbal oil massages and pouring of medicinal liquids (cold buttermilk, I think it was) over my forehead. Total somewhere around 60-90 minutes. (I definitely lost my perception of time during treatments!) ~13:00 - Lunch, usually curries, veggies and chutnies with rice and some fruit for desert. ~16:00 - Tea. ~19:00 - After saying goodbye to the birds flying back downstream it's time for more medication and dinner. Very varied dishes (again, probably depends on your diet) ranging from tasty to incredibly delicious. There's isn't a whole lot to do in between the semi-scheduled activities. Even I could find the calm to read a book here. Many heartfelt thanks to the lovely staff Hari, Lalu, Praseedha, Omana, Debena and Regani and good luck with Munkudil! ♥ PS. I got nothing for writing this short essay, in case you were wondering :)

Utterly amazing and very special spot right on the very peaceful river. Great place if you want to hang out and do nothing. Staff are wonderful. Special thanks to Salesh for being so friendly and helpful in every way! Check ahead of time whether kayaking / boat trips are possible based on past heavy rain if you are keen on that. Yoga classes of a slower style than we are used to and very expensive at 1500 (everywhere else we have found them to be a third of that price).

I was there for a 14 day Panchakarma Detox. PROS: - Salesh (retreat manager) picked me up personally from the airport as I opted for airport transfer as I was getting in at midnight and a solo traveler. Mathew also texted me advising him that he would be there with a sign. I felt very safe from the very beginning. - amazing staff, thank you to everyone (Salesh, Reji, Akshara, Sree Lakshmi and Jishnu) that looked after me, it felt like a family and was so sad to leave. - the yoga was authentic, for all levels and incorporated breathing techniques and meditation as well. - the food was simple, although so much of it (feel free to reduce the portions guys haha) - the team helped organise day events, we went on bird watching into the jungle, a quick trip to the closest town and also to the plantations. - whilst my first ayurdvedic treatment experience, chatting to others that were there confirmed they were authentic. - I had a headache after the bird watching as I have chronic neck issues, and Salesh provided me with ayurdvedic treatments. he also made sure I knew he was only a call away at any time. - i didn't lose weight in my two weeks, however was very relaxed and became more flexible during the daily yoga. - stunning location. - they make their soaps and shampoo on site. CONS: - i did get bitten by mosquitoes often. - not a strict hardcore detox centre, while they will stick to a routine, they are quite flexible. it would be best to advise them of how strict you want to be from the beginning. - the doctor was not in house and only came every few days. we were allowed to call him if needed though. he didn't advise me of my dosha, i had to ask specific questions to get answers. Would definitely go back!

Finished a 3-day solo retreat at Mundunkil and I was really blown away by my time there. The staff there are warm and inviting, they make you feel very welcomed, and are great at providing service. The food there was also some of the best I’ve had and Minnie does a great job with it. It was a perfect place for me to relax, unwind, enjoy the view, and get amazing sleep. I hope to come back.

The staff at the resort made this a truly incredible experience. Kindness and warmth radiated in everything they did. The room was clean and comfortable. The food was amazing. The resort activities were tailored to my needs and interests. Highly recommend this resort for restoring peace and equilibrium in the self.

Most things are unreasonably overpriced. Room rates are much higher than other similar hotels in Kerala. Three or four times more expensive. All treatments are higher priced than treatments at similar facilities in Kerala. 25%-50% more expensive. And exactly the same with yoga classes. On the other hand I must say staff is awesome.

Munkudil is an enchanting and highly unique retreat house, run by an equally extraordinary family. My week there was truly magical. It’s clear that the owner put a lot of thought and effort into creating the retreat —from the eco-architecture to the art and the one-of-a-kind rooms— located in a gorgeous part of Kerala between the coast and the mountain hill stations about 1.5 hours east of Cochin airport. Birding, paddle boarding, wildlife watching, swimming, and temple visits are all in the vicinity. The weather is ideal and there are almost no mosquitos (at least when I was there in February). The property defies easy categorization. Though it is not an Ayurvedic clinic per se, two highly capable and articulate Ayurvedic physicians visit regularly to consult with guests seeking treatments (massage therapists are available). A kind yoga instructor comes by daily for a gentle asana, pranayama, and meditation session, held in a hall just above the treatment rooms. But the caretaker family and house itself make the place much more personal and endearing than a typical Ayurvedic retreat. Lalu, Mini, and their son Unni are intimately involved in ensuring that guests are comfortable, well-fed (food is outstanding), and attended to for any excursion. They are big-hearted and dedicated, supported by several equally wonderful staff who are warm and caring. Manju, the reservation coordinator, was also gracious and thoughtful from start to finish. After my one week stay, I miss them all already! For those who seek a more intimate, unique, and artful Kerala retreat with wonderful food and caretakers in an inspiring and quiet riverside setting, I can think of no better place. I hope to bring my family back next year.

If you seek a quiet, river front, serene space to unwind, look no further (family friendly). Mankudil offers a home away from home, amazing staff, home food, yoga and Ayurvedic treatment options. Thoroughly enjoyed and strongly recommended!

Recently I had an opportunity to stay @Munkudil with my family. I can say, it was a great home stay. Staff’s hospitality is fantastic and fabulous. Reji chettan and Shalesh chettan took care like family. We were served delicious home cooked food throughout our stay. A very peaceful, quiet, relaxing, serene location with a riverside view. A home away from home right beside the Periyar river. "Watching the torrential downpour" from the balcony with a hot cup of tea is an unforgettable experience. Must for those who want a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Dear Munkudil Team, We three families stayed here for one day trip 29th July. It was a gr8 atmosphere and tasty food. We explored the beauty of the river and stayed very much.the lunch provided was excellent, but it was very unfortunate that the dinner made us very disappointed. The marketing executive shared us a superb menu and we were excited to explore together after mesmerizing river baths in the evening. Later once the dinner was placed we didn't find any dishes in the menu shared. At the same time some of the dishes were served for lunch. Suggestion/Recommendation: 1- Drinking water availability in all rooms 2-Food needs to be sufficient as per shared menu. 3- Availability of sufficient bath towels ,since this is located near the river.

I’ve recently just got back from Munkudil, I have visited this place before a couple of years ago with my husband for my health and I cannot recommend it enough. From the family helping to run it, to the cleaners & massage therapists they are just truly wonderful and such special people, they make the place what it is! They make you feel at home and part of the family, mamas cooking is just so yummy too. This visit was more of a working trip, I took a few ladies from my Yoga studio on a retreat and they loved it just as much as I did. It was one of the ladies birthdays when we arrived and they did a wonderful surprise for her, which was just lovely. The ladies have also said they would definitely visit again and love the family, cleaners and massage therapists like family too. They just do so much for you to make your stay just perfect, they cannot do enough for you. The Ayurveda and herbal medicines have helped me so much over the last couple of years too. After being told by UK doctors I would be in pain forever, Jomy and the Dr has helped me so much and I’m no longer in pain. I continue my Ayurveda healing and Yoga is a huge part of my life, if you need a place to just be or a place to heal this is the perfect place with stunning views to nourish mind body and soul. Thank you and I definitely recommend and I will be back!! 😃💚✨ Lots of love & gratitude Emma x

First of all a big thanks for the beautiful heaven on earth. It was really a wonderful place and experience. The hospitality was really extremely good. Dishes prepared were very homely and tasty. The brothers( staff) there really was concerned about how comfortable we were they also had very good opinion about the owner. Maintenance was superb. It was hygiene and clean. Restroom was clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the beautiful nature and the smell of natural nature in the room. Smell of the mud and greens, sound of the running water. We could also see few deers and few other animals. We had a swim in the cold water just near the resort. Once again thanks to Mr. Jimmy and the wonderful and caring staff.

I stayed here with my wife for a quick one night getaway from the city. Fantastic gem of a place, great location, fantastic local food prepared and served with love. The caretaker Laluettan does a fantastic job of making guests feel at home. Not ideal for bigger boys/ girls groups. Its best for families or for people who want a quiet getaway with Ayurvedic treatments thrown in, but might need to stay for longer to enjoy the massages and treatments.

Its a home away from home - a magical piece of paradise in the middle of nature. We spend 5 days in Munkudil and we loved every minutes of it! The atmosphere is so calm and quiet, the homemade South Indian food is delicious, feels like medicine for the body and soul. The hospitality and services provided by the staff were excellent, they attended us well at all times and we were impressed by their kindness and courtesy. Their passion about their profession is really heartwarming and impressive. We stayed in the bamboo room, with the best bathroom in the world, that made us feel very close to the nature. The room was beautiful, comfortable, very clean, and had an amazing view to the Idamalayar River. We could enjoy the beautiful garden, the swimming pool, the terraces with amazing views, and we had access to the river, where we spend a lot of time enjoying the crystal clear water and the incredible views to the riverside, watching the wildlife, we even saw elephants on the other side of the river! We had the opportunity to take yoga classes with Master Ajikumar (Yoga of “AjiMash”), who is not only a master of his craft but touches peoples hearts with his wisdom, humour and generosity and made us and our heart smile all day long. We even had a chakra diagnosis and Tibetan Sound massage and a Yoga Vidhya course, that made the whole experience very immersive. We even got recommendations on what to visit in the region, and went to a short trip to visit a temple nearby. We are very grateful for all the attention we got here and for this unforgettable experience! We would be really happy to return one day!

It was wonderful to come back to the comfort of Mankudil Yoga Retreat when Attakkalari Dancers were in the forest areas surrounding the Bhoothathankettu Dam near Kothamangalam in Kerala for a film shoot which will be released during the forthcoming Attakkalari India Biennial, South Asia’s most important international contemporary dance festival. Mankudil is clean and quiet place by the majestic river and it was lovely to stay. The staff was very polite and helpful, and we were even treated with the sightings of a mother elephant and calf bathing in the river.

I was here only for a few days, but I totally fall in love with this place and became part of the family when I left. The scenery is amazing, I can gaze for hours enjoying the nature beauty; the staffs are all very kind and always take care of your needs, and they prepared delicious vegetarian Indian food. And I have to thank Hari for arranging everything here, he patiently answered my questions since booking the retreat, giving 2 daily yoga classes with varieties, taking us to the town for dinner, considerate and helpful. I would really like to be back again and again! Wish you all the best.

We spontaneously booked this place the day when we arrived in Kochi. God somehow brought us to this place with no expectations. He knows what our body, mind and soul needs. We had Ayurveda treatment including the check-up with the doctor, oil massage, vegetarian food which was amazing and made me fall in love to Indian food and of course the yoga (2x/day) with Harry who is a very good teacher. I love how he taught us proper breathing. We indeed relaxed like we never did before. The staff were also nice and genuinely friendly like we've found a family and a home in India. We can really say that they love and enjoy what they do. We were also blessed that the other guests were a nice company especially during meals (3x/day). It was awesome. I would love to come back to this place again.

My husband and I stayed at Munkudil Ayurveda Yoga Retreat in December 2023. We still talk about how beautiful a place it was and how lovely our experience there was! The view is breathtaking. We quite enjoyed spending time on the verandah that faced a tranquil lake. We were lucky that it was a full moon night and could spend a lot of time gazing at the full moon and the still, clear water reflecting it all back. The rest of the property is beautifully maintained. Green, clean and pure to be succinct! It is refreshing to be in a beautiful place like this. If you're a nature loving introvert like me, then think no more! This place is a must visit. The food was freshly cooked and garnished with love and the utmost attention to detail. We appreciated how they provided us with healthy additions like fruit juice and salads(both fruit and vegetable) with each meal. I'd highly recommend their traditional Kerala food. It fills the belly and nourishes the soul. I'd like to thank Mr. Matthew and Mr. Reji for their commendable hospitality and warmth. They made our stay special. Munkudil retreat is one of those places you'd want to return to multiple times. I look forward to the day I'll visit again!
