This was such a great experience. I emailed ahead of time as I was going here with my partner for his birthday. The staff were so hospitable. They organised a drink on arrival, sent our mains out with a candle and gave us a complimentary dessert. I can’t thank you guys enough for such an amazing experience. The food was absolutely amazing, and is definitely the best Mexican food we both have ever had. Thank you so much! We will be back.

Food was delicious and so beautifully presented - shout out to the sword fish which had a great spicy kick to it. The drinks were also great and well garnished too. The service felt a bit rushed with food coming out so quickly, which at times struggled to fit onto the table. Mains also came out whilst we were finishing our entrees. Additionally the waitress forgot our drinks order as well :/ Regardless it’s a beautiful venue serving high quality Mexican food.

I have raved about Maiz to all my friends ever since I discovered it and they've all been converted too. Eat here if you want delicious, authentic Mexican food that is different to your usual taco and burrito bowl fare. There are plenty of vegan-friendly options (and I daresay they tasted even better than the meat options), and there is even a bottomless brunch option.

Two of us had the set menu and everything was absolutely delicious, this was my introduction to authentic Mexican food and was blown away by the different flavours and spices. If you cannot tolerate spice or spicy food very well you may struggle, but people who love spice will definitely enjoy the dishes.

I really don’t know what to say other than YUM!!!!! This place was recommended by a friend who knows “Mexican” food and said that this was pretty authentic and owned/operated by people who also know good Mexican food. I have to say, that they’re right! Each dish was bursting with spices and flavour that made your whole mouth go WOW. Fresh and flavourful and mouth watering and moorish. The venue is unique with a courtyard dining area, on the main strip in Newtown but enclosed so you’re away from the heavy traffic. Staff were lovely and treated us to a special shot of something tasty. Try it for yourself - you won’t be disappointed.

I had very high expectations for this place and the experience didn’t quite meet them. We ordered the set menu for $65pp. The starters were really good, very different and tasty. The mains were a disappointment. The duck one was very heavy with that sauce, it was hard to finish the plate and the other one didn’t taste like anything really. We were surprised that we had ordered the set menu but could only order 1 dessert to share, which was a tiny cake for 2 people. Also, our table was in a tiny space and the waitress was standing very close to us all the time, not really comfortable set up.

When my GF asked what I wanted to have for dinner when we met up I said Margaritas... She said she knew just the place. When I arrived I hadn't planned my phone battery very well and when asked if I could charge it I was kindly lent a power bank. HUGE first tick for service. We decided on a cocktail each, I got the traditional Marg's that I'd been craving and both were refreshing and spot on, and because we were done with decisions got the the feed me menu for $65pp and could not have been happier. Each dish was so delicious as well as beautiful along with a bonus mezcal and hibiscus syrup shot, spot on. Beautiful fresh, traditional Mexican fare with friendly and attentive service... Great choice for a night out. Oh, and to continue phone saga, GF left her phone there and they answered it when we rang and kept it safe for when we came back after a couple of after dinner vinos at a local wine bar. Have been raving to friends to 'do yourself a favour' and go there ASAP!

Great little Mexican joint amongst the many food options in Newtown. Came here for their Tuesday tostadas and they were fantastic. Tried all their vegetarian versions of their Al pastor and chorizo, all amazingly delicious. Even got to try cactus for the first time and loved it. The ceviche was also great, with the right hint of spice. Really enjoyed their guacamole too. Good cocktails, with their own unique spin on the classics. Also tried their horchata, which was a good non alcoholic drink with trying. If you've got room, they do these giant quesadilla looking things they call machetes. My friends got stuffed on those too and they seriously enjoyed it.
